Desert lioness in the Hoanib Valley, Kunene, Namibia
Good old times 2015
These lions are all monitored by the strange Prof. Flip Stander, who has collared almost all lions in the area.

The last 3 photos posted of OSO Flaco Lake and Oceano Dunes, were taken in December while visiting my sister in Nipomo California. It was raining the day we went out, which made for interesting moody photos. ( although, not great for the camera and lens) I have just now got around to processing them and realize there is so much to learn with landscape photography. The wonderful thing about photography... you can spend a life time learning and for me, this makes for a very Exciting Journey ! happy Sunday everyone.
In the dunes you always can find a lovely place, with no wind and a good view on the sea, to have a break after a long walk.

Clouds moving across the dunes at Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve. Enlarge to see the people in the photo.
Late afternoon at Imperial Sand Dunes Recreation Area in the far southeast of California near Brawley (just along Ben Hulse Highway 78).
These dunes are regularly used with OHV's for spectacular fun rides.
When I was there a strong wind swept over the dunes, so that the lanes were blown away quickly.

A minimalistic perspective of Eureka Dunes in Death Valley.
A long 45 mile drive down a dirt road brings the adventurer to Eureka Dunes in Death Valley. The dunes are 3 square miles of the highest dunes found in Death Valley.
Thanks for taking the time to take a look at my photos, and as always, your views, comments, faves, and support are greatly appreciated!!

The Namib desert throws up some wonderful shapes. This was taken just outside Swakopmund. Three people are enjoying a walk on the dunes.

A humanmade sand dune along the shoreline with mountain mining in the background.
The Great Salt Lake - GPS is not the exact spot of the photo.
Great Sand Dunes National Park is a wealth of photo opportunities. One of the most interesting aspects of this park is the contracts of colors. I was struck by the bold three bands of color in this scene.
The sun was almost behind the San Andres mountains and the dunes had a nice yellow glow from a combination of the soft light and gypsum sand in the air.
Primary dune formation takes place on the wide beaches of Ameland.
During a large supply of sand on the coast, a wide beach forms and a part of this sand remains behind obstacles such as seaweed, ropes and fish boxes.
A small freshwater lens develops in the resulting heap of sand and thanks to the nitro-rich decaying waste, colostrum grass and then marram grass will soon sprout to hold the sand.
The rounded dune tops in this image are about 2 meters high.
This is at an oasis which was once a luxury resort but the locals now use the area as a day out to go dune buggy racing or to sail out on the oasis
Some of you will be aware that this image was selected as one of the 12 finalists from over 42,000 entries for this year's BBC Countryfile photographic competition. On the programme a couple of weeks ago it was announced that my entry had been unanimously selected by the judges as their favourite!
'Dune Drifter' will be the June photo on the BBC Countryfile 2020 calendar. Last year the calendars sold raised more than £2.4 million for BBC Children in Need charity and a minimum of £4.50 from the sale of each 2020 calendar will be donated to the BBC Children in Need Appeal. If you are interested in buying a calendar to support this very worthy cause they are on sale now. Please visit: www.countryfile.com/countryfile-tv-show/countryfile-calen...
Many thanks to those of you that voted and those who buy the calendar. If you are feeling a sense of deja view, I did post this image a year ago but had to temporarily remove it to comply with the competition rules. So here is the return of the Luskentyre Pony!
Happy shooting in the sweeping sand dunes in the evening light

More wind sculptures from the Tamala Park sandblows. The patterns are ever changing and so beautiful.
