This was my 3rd time at this location and every time we had overcast conditions.

Downtown San Diego

My patience is definitely being tested as I read about countless European photographers receiving their a7Rii. I'm trying to calm my impatience by editing this photo I shot on the a6000. It's truly shocking how much better the dynamic range is on the Sony sensors compared to my Canon 5D3. I realize that right now this is a bit of a stretch, but I do believe that if Canon doesn't start innovating at a faster pace they are going to be the next Kodak.

Traffic heading in and out of downtown San Diego just after sunset.

Similar to a a few of my recent posts, this is not an HDR, but a blend of photos taken over a period of about 30 minutes. Most of the image comes from one of the first shots taken just after sunset. Then leaving the tripod in the same spot I kept taking exposures over the next 30 minutes or so as it got dark and the city lights turned on. Using the lighten blend mode in Photoshop I added the light trails and city lights, leaving the sky, trees, and everything but the lit windows from the sunset shot.

Taken last night during twilight in Coronado. This city is always beautiful and never disappoints when it comes to the reflection of the city lights on the water.

The new park and landscaping has turned the Administration building into a pretty popular place, and it looks a lot nicer too. I'm also a fan of the tribute to Tony Gwynn hanging out front.

Downtown San Diego

First attempt at night photography

My holiday trip back to San Diego gave me the chance to revisit areas that I used to shoot a lot. This time I decided to shoot again at Coronado, more specifically, the skyline of Downtown San Diego. This was one of the first places I shot with a tripod, so it was a bit nostalgic going back. Unlike the first time, I shot multiple frames and stitched them together using Photoshops panorama function.
