Happy Birthday DSOTM, a phenomenal record.

March 1, 2023.

Many will know and recognise on what these Dice are resting, the Prism is the giveaway! One of the most famous iconic album covers of all time.

Well for me it is still one of the Best Albums of all time, and happy to say that this one is still in regular use, as it is has so much better sound than any CD!

Had to dig up the backup cam as the main is in Astro mode!

Hard to believe, but today marks the 50th anniversary of Pink Floyd's Dark Side Of The Moon album that was released on March 1, 1973 for the U.S., and later on March 16, 1973 for the U.K.

One of the best selling and iconic albums of all time, DSOTM sold estimated sales of 45-50 million album copies. It holds the records for both the consecutive and total weeks on Billboard's top 200 album sales chart. From its release in March of 1973 to 1988 it was on the Billboard's chart for 741 consecutive weeks, and as of today, March of 2023 on the charts for 972 weeks.

In 1973 I got my first Hi-Fi system from having two morning paper routes. I asked my friends what should be the first album to buy, and they definitely said Pink Floyd's Dark Side Of The Moon since it was fresh out on release. After getting the first U.S. pressing, I was so blown away by the great sound quality of the album, and also the outstanding job done on the production of the album. I went through three albums of DSOTM until I bought mt first CD in 1984. Personally, DSOTH is in my top three favorite albums, if not my favorite of all times.

Two years ago I was able to get a super clean 1979 MoFi (MFSL) original master recording from a person who only played it a couple of times, which the album cover is seen in the photo. Also in the photo is a 1978 Marantz 6370Q turntable, and 1978 Marantz 2500 stereo receiver.

Bitterly cold today...anyways, here’s the gothic gatehouse at Belper Cemetery.

I’ve shot this before but never head on. The light was warm, the air temperature not so warm, around zero Celsius. That’s nippy.

HHF! Happy Hallucinogenic Friday, everyone!

My contribution to this week's theme 'Light' is a bit of an homage to, and inspired by, the iconic image from Pink Floyd's 'Dark Side of the Moon'.

After propping up the camera on my bag, as this was the only place I could stabilise it! (My D7000 is being repaired again, and the tripod quick release plate was taken off before sending it back). I wasn't going to post it as I'm not happy with it, but you can see what I'm trying to achieve. Lots more to perfect what I'm looking for yet though.

Composition went out the window as well! I've cropped this to remove the bottom of the camera bag lol!

"Time"

"Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day

Fritter and waste the hours in an off-hand way

Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town

Waiting for someone or something to show you the way

Tired of lying in the sunshine staying home to watch the rain

You are young and life is long and there is time to kill today

And then one day you find ten years have got behind you

No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun

And you run and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking

Racing around to come up behind you again

The sun is the same in a relative way, but you're older

Shorter of breath and one day closer to death

Every year is getting shorter, never seem to find the time

Plans that either come to naught or half a page of scribbled lines

Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way

The time is gone, the song is over, thought I'd something more to say

Home, home again

I like to be here when I can

When I come home cold and tired

It's good to warm my bones beside the fire

Far away, across the field

The tolling of the iron bell

Calls the faithful to their knees

To hear the softly spoken magic spell."

Omega Speedmaster "Dark Side of the Moon"

This was taken with my dad's camera, over two years ago, in JoaƧaba (my hometown).

I decided not to process it with any software. I like the light and the colours; they remind me of home.

Every time a star falls

Is time to make a wish, they say

In my land they always tell you that

When hours and minutes are the same

There is always this wish to make

It's been some time on my mind, a phrase I am almost sick of

When a star falls, there is only one thing at stake

One wish to make from above

It's been a while since I have wished something else

Leave my mind at once, I ask

Leave my mind right now and never come back

It is the only thing I want from above

These words repeat every time a star falls

When there is only one number on the clock,

It is towards this wish that my mind crawls

Leave me I ask, leave me I wish

But today after the exam I had this mental block

Let's listen to my heart, I preached

When I left the tube the hours were flashing on the clock

Fourteen-fourteen it said, time to make a wish

Without thinking, only feeling

Somehow my begging changed the tone

Come back to me today, I say in silence, almost whispering

Come back to me at once.

Come back to me at once, I said, away from my mind

Even if for a month, even if for a night

Come back to me at once, doesn't matter if this is just a test

It is the only thing I want from above

An Evening of Sight an Sound with

Pink Floyd at

Tampa Stadium, Tampa, Florida

Obscured by Clouds was the title (and instrumental opening song) for one of Pink Floyd's most obscure albums released 4 decades ago in 1972. OBC was further obscured and completely overshadowed by Floyd's next landmark release Dark Side of the Moon. Pink Floyd toured North America in 1972 to promote Eclipse (working title of DSOTM) and included 3 Canadian shows at the Vancouver Gardens on September 27 and 30th 1972: www.brain-damage.co.uk/concert-dates/1972-tour-dates-conc...

Don't know if he was thinking, "I should give this guy a little pose", or, "What an annoying little sh*t". Hope it was the former though. Thanks for the great opportunity Roger.

"Comfortably Numb"

Hello,

Is there anybody in there?

Just nod if you can hear me.

Is there anyone at home?

Come on now

I hear you're feeling down

Well, I can ease your pain

And get you on your feet again

Relax

I'll need some information first

Just the basic facts

Can you show me where it hurts?

There is no pain, you are receding

A distant ship smoke on the horizon

You are only coming through in waves

Your lips move but I can't hear what you're saying

When I was a child I had a fever

My hands felt just like two balloons

Now I've got that feeling once again

I can't explain, you would not understand

This is not how I am

I have become comfortably numb

I have become comfortably numb

O.K.

Just a little pin prick

There'll be no more aaaaaaaah!

But you may feel a little sick

Can you stand up?

I do believe it's working, good

That'll keep you going through the show

Come on, it's time to go.

There is no pain you are receding

A distant ship smoke on the horizon

You are only coming through in waves

Your lips move but I can't hear what you're saying

When I was a child

I caught a fleeting glimpse

Out of the corner of my eye

I turned to look but it was gone

I cannot put my finger on it now

The child is grown

The dream is gone

I have become comfortably numb.

Went to the V&A to visit the Pink Floyd Exhibition - 'Their Mortal Remains'. If you are a lover of PF then I thoroughly recommend this and if your not I still thoroughly recommend it...

Took us 3 hours to go round well worth the money.

These are the full size models used to produce the Division Bell album, the building seen in the background is Ely cathedral. The late Storm Thorgerson created the image along with most of the other PF album covers.

"Pigs (Three Different Ones)"

Big man, pig man, ha ha, charade you are

You well heeled big wheel, ha ha, charade you are

And when your hand is on your heart

You're nearly a good laugh

Almost a joker

With your head down in the pig bin

Saying "keep on digging"

Pig stain on your fat chin

What do you hope to find?

When you're down in the pig mine

You're nearly a laugh

You're nearly a laugh

But you're really a cry.

Bus stop rat bag, ha ha, charade you are

You fucked up old hag, ha ha, charade you are

You radiate cold shafts of broken glass

You're nearly a good laugh

Almost worth a quick grin

You like the feel of steel

You're hot stuff with a hat pin

And good fun with a hand gun

You're nearly a laugh

You're nearly a laugh

But you're really a cry.

Hey you Whitehouse, ha ha, charade you are

You house proud town mouse, ha ha, charade you are

You're trying to keep our feelings off the street

You're nearly a real treat

All tight lips and cold feet

And do you feel abused?

.....!.....!.....!.....!

You gotta stem the evil tide

And keep it all on the inside

Mary you're nearly a treat

Mary you're nearly a treat

But you're really a cry.
