I had a dream, which was not all a dream.

The bright sun was extinguish'd, and the stars

Did wander darkling in the eternal space,

Rayless, and pathless, and the icy earth

Swung blind and blackening in the moonless air...

The shadow is what we think of it; the tree is the real thing."

Over five years on from the Christchurch Earthquakes and only the odd pump station is left in some areas where thriving communities used to live....

Māori believe that water is an energy, with many moods. It can be calm and life-giving, or dangerous and destructive. This energy is called Tangaroa – ‘god of the sea’.

Castle Rising near King’s Lynn in Norfolk, England. One of the best castles we visited - Mitchell thoroughly enjoyed exploring the grounds while the 13th century castle offered fantastic spaces to capture in the camera and in the imagination...

Blow the trumpet in Zion; sound the alarm on my holy mountain! Let all the inhabitants of the land tremble, for the day of the LORD is coming, it is near - a day of darkness and gloom, a day of clouds and thick darkness! Like blackness spread upon the mountains a great and powerful army comes; their like has never been from of old, nor will be again after them in ages to come. Joel 2:1-2

Wow...! What a wonderful addition to Christchurch - The Christchurch Adventure Park - and it is less than 10 minutes down the road from us. The chairlift is the longest in New Zealand at 1.8 kms - a fantastic ride even for sightseers.

"My life is cold, and dark, and dreary;

It rains,and the wind is never weary;

My thoughts still cling to the mouldering past,

But the hopes of youth fall thick in the blast,

And the days are dark and dreary.

Rievaulx Abbey Ruins are down a lovely remote little valley in the North York Moors National Park. These structures tower a good three stories high and it is amazing to think that this Cistercian abbey was opened in the year 1132. When we arrived there we were the first to visit for the day so I had time alone to wander through the pillars and arches and imagined the monks of antiquity walking these same steps centuries before.
