Bagan also Arimaddana or Arimaddanapura, "city breakers of enemies", and Tambadipa, "copper country" or Tassadessa, "parched land") is a historic royal city in Myanmar with over two thousand preserved sacred buildings made of brick. The area made up of temples extends over approx. 36 km² in a stepped landscape and forms one of the largest archaeological sites in Southeast Asia. Bagan is located in what is now the Mandalay Division, 155 km southwest of the city of Mandalay on the east bank of the Irrawaddy, halfway between its source and its mouth in the Indian Ocean and is now one of the most important tourist destinations in Myanmar.

"Be drawn to the spectacular sandstone country of Nitmiluk National Park and the majestic Nitmiluk (Katherine) Gorge with spectacular cliffs that glow in the changing light.
Nitmiluk National Park, just 30 kilometres north-east of Katherine, covers a vast area, including 13 impressive gorges carved from the ancient sandstone country which stretch for as far as the eye can see.
Watch the gorge move through a spectrum of colours and glowing hues on a sunrise or sunset river cruise. As you observe the cliff faces towering over the boat, sit back and listen as the traditional owners of the park, the Jawoyn people, transport you into a spiritual world of their culture and history."
This was what we saw on the magic sunset cruise, every word was true.

This amazing Tattoo my dear talented friend Spring Spring made, All 100% hand drawn by herself mind you, is very, very near and dear to her heart.
Sometimes words can't describe how we are feeling on the inside but art helps us be heard. It shows us pain, beauty and love from a few simple strokes.

Every now and again I see a black and white photo that looks like it could have been drawn by some artist. Just simple lines on paper. When I got home and saw this shot on a large display I got the that feeling that it had been drawn by my camera. The magic ends when I tell you that it is the remains of an old dock in the local river taken early one foggy morning. So just imagine I painted it instead.
Hydrangea flowers always delight me. I can become lost in studying the variety of colors within each petal. "A certain blue enters your soul."

"A Wordless Text, Light on Water"

This drawing was made collaboratively by a remarkable Chicago based artist couple. The drawing brings together their respective practices in a whimsical image that speak (for me) of the tenuous existence of someone like Temma (the indirect subject of all of the works in this project).
This is one of the 23 works in the upcoming enigmatic group exhibition titled "Deposition: Drawn" at North Park University. Opening reception on February 14 (Valentine's Day!) 4:30 - 6:30 and running through March 9.
This exhibition is an unusual mash-up of my work as curator (primarily as gallery director at @npuchicago ) and my work as an artist (particularly work that is related to my most frequent subject, my daughter Temma). I sent each of the participating artists a unique prompt which was for me somehow related to Temma. The participating artists then made a drawing related to their prompt. They also developed an accompanying text / title for the drawing. And then they sent that text to me along with a high resolution scan of their drawing.

I am not sure if Mathew would have gone this route, but he definitely inspired me to create this!
