Spotted dove is very commonly seen in Singapore.

This is a re-do of an earlier shot of Miles. Done as a promo for an upcoming gig, I used his original song "Dover" as the thematic take off point. The song can be heard here.

Happy Thursday to all...

Bird: Emerald Dove (Chalcophaps indica)

Well, this was going to go in a blog, but I'm disgusted with the attempt at the moment. I keep almost preparing a post, getting called away, and then someone else gets on the computer and either closes it or causes it to crash for one reason or another. It's not a momentous post or anything, and I'm tired of redoing it for now, and my son wants me to play. Here's a freaking flock of doves.

P.S. I did finally post a blog that started with doves, but not this one. More about actual doves later.

Image made from my deck on Lookout Mountain in Etowah County, Alabama, USA

A mourning dove struck one of our windows. It staggered around a bit before flying away. I photographed the impression it left on the window.

I spotted this dove on an afternoon bird-watching hike at the San Jose del Cabo Estuary (Baja California Sur, Mexico). It was one of the many bird photos I took that afternoon, but I didn't select it on the first pass through my pictures. With a little cropping and processing, I think it has an eye-catching interest.

Above Hartington the River Dove doglegs to the west from its northerly direction.

Lovely predawn sky (and forecast) promised much, but cloud prevailed for most of the morning

This beauty was posing nicely for us at Playa Negra in Costa Rica

Inca doves are small and their feathers give the appearance of scales. This one was perched in my yard with a branch of chili petin peppers in the background.

I enjoyed photography around Nakano Station with many friends on that day. I was able to participate only for 30 minutes of the beginning, but it was very great time.

On June 15, 2013 in Nakano.

この日はたくさんの友達と中野駅の周辺を撮り歩きました。 僕は始めの30分しか参加できませんでしたが、それはとても充実した時間でした。

A pair of remarkably unconcerned mourning doves.

Mourning Dove. These sweet little birds usually always lay two eggs, more or less is very rare. The incubation period is just two weeks. And, unlike most birds, the Mourning Dove can sip water like they are drinking through a straw.

Every morning a few of them come for breakfast in the backyard. Wailea Maui Hawaii

I've been going up almost every evening and photographing the doves. Sometimes there's an awesome sunset to go with them. This particular evening, I was finished. I sat down and was playing a computer game while pretending to work thinking about drafting an essay. Then I saw a red glow on my son's face, coming through the window. And then this.

SOOC except for a crop.

Large pale dove with a black crescent on the nape. Slightly smaller and paler than Rock Pigeon, with a proportionately longer, square-tipped tail. Favors farms and suburbs; avoids areas with extensive forests. Typically seen in pairs or small loose groups; forms larger flocks in winter. Widespread and common throughout much of Eurasia, India, and northern Africa. Introduced to the Bahamas in the 1970s; it has spread rapidly across much of North America, where now abundant and conspicuous, though notably absent from the northeastern U.S. Compare with African Collared-Dove, which may occur in small feral populations or as an escapee throughout Eurasian Collared-Dove’s range. Especially note tail pattern from below: mostly white, contrasting with the grayish undertail coverts, and with black extending down the outer edge of the tail feathers.

194) Zebra Dove

Zebra Dove, Geopelia striata, Merbuk

Native to Southeast Asia. They are small birds with a long tail. Closely related to the peaceful dove of Australia and New Guinea and the barred dove of eastern Indonesia. The zebra dove feeds on small grass and weed seeds. They will also eat insects and other small invertebrates. They prefer to forage on bare ground, short grass or on roads, scurrying about with rodent-like movement. Unlike other doves, they forage alone, or in pairs. Their colouration camouflages them wonderfully against the ground.

An early evening view from Dover Heights in Sydney's Eastern suburbs, looking across the harbour, with the sails of the beautiful Sydney Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge in full sight, and the Blue Mountains many miles west of the city in the background. A million dollar view on a beautiful evening.

Dover Castle is a medieval castle in Dover, Kent, England. It was founded in the 11th century and has been described as the "Key to England" due to its defensive significance throughout history. It is the largest castle in England.

The rock dove or rock pigeon (/ˈpɪdʒ.ən/ also /ˈpɪdʒ.ɪn/; Columba livia) is a member of the bird family Columbidae (doves and pigeons).:624 In common usage, this bird is often simply referred to as the "pigeon".

The species includes the domestic pigeon, including the fancy pigeon. Escaped domestic pigeons have given rise to populations of feral pigeons around the world.

Wild rock doves are pale grey with two black bars on each wing, while domestic and feral pigeons are very variable in colour and pattern. There are few visible differences between males and females The species is generally monogamous, with two squabs (young) per brood. Both parents care for the young for a time.

Habitats include various open and semi-open environments. Cliffs and rock ledges are used for roosting and breeding in the wild. Originally found wild in Europe, North Africa, and western Asia, pigeons have become established in cities around the world. The species is abundant, with an estimated population of 17 to 28 million feral and wild birds in Europe.

Balboa Park . Los Angeles. California.

The robin flew away and now a young dove is sunning in the garden in the morning and moves under the bushes midday.

This mated Dove couple have been hanging around our neighborhood for a few years. We've only seen them at a distance until now (except when I save one of them from a hawk). They finally discovered the squirrel food. One is smarter, to realize the feeder is on the other side of the fence. :-)

The Doves seem to almost always come in pairs. Tomorrow I will show the other that accompanied this one.

I have no idea as to what sex it is, but this one seems to be smaller than the other, but only slightly. The Cornell lab all about Birds site only mentions either Mature or Juvenile in their sample shots, and I could not see a difference between them.

I assume that this one is molting. I am not sure I like the look of it in this state. I often wonder if there is any kind of discomfort when this happens.

This one I call No Toes.

The peaceful dove (Geopelia placida) is a small pigeon of around 20cm overall length, and is native to Australia and New Guinea. It is is closely related to the zebra dove of south-east Asia and the barred dove of eastern Indonesia. Their range extends over much of mainland Australia except southern Victoria and southern Western Australia. They are usually encountered in scrublands and woodlands, but never far from water. This pair were sighted in the Outback of Western Australia. After enduring a cold night in the Outback, they were basking in the delightful, warming rays of the early morning sun.
