The love birds

I'm starting another Bird Art series, this one featuring a solitary dove sitting on a rock in the winter.

This is the artistic version of the image. Tomorrow I will post the more realistic and natural image.

The evening light was fast fading so this was a very slow handheld capture at 1/15th of a second. I had to take several attempts before one was finally acceptably sharp.

I matched the frame color to compliment the bird...

Happy Wing Wednesday.

A Mourning Dove perched in the Crabapple Tree.

I have a least 8 dove mournings in my feeder and 4 of them are younger how cute they are have a lovely weekend! :)

Port Dover never fails to provide a nice photo This is from the Norfolk photography club walk

Love to get these doves in my garden. They always look so serene.

Mourning dove in our red bud tree with colorful bokeh from a neighbor's car taillights about 40 yards in the distance. Likely lots more dove photos in our redbud since they have returned. Had 13 a couple of days enjoying the seed I throw out. Had 20 last year some days. Have to take these photos with our front door cracked open just enough to get my lens in so not always the sharpest.

One of the up to 20 mourning doves that come to enjoy the seed I scatter on our front lawn. This one was in our maple tree. 28°F and very windy on Thanksgiving Day. Hard to capture through our slightly opened front door with my non stabilized lens. I scared all the others away trying to get this one since I had to open the door due to where the tree is in our yard. But they always come back later for the seed. :) Love these and am very thankful that so many are coming to visit daily so likely more photos of them in the future. :)

This Mourning Dove was in what struck me as an unusual location on a small sandy spit with salt water around and little vegetation beyond the grass seen in this image. The location was Waterside Beach Provincial Park in Pictou County, Nova Scotia, Canada.

The mate to this dove is nowhere to be found.

The ring-necked dove, also known as the Cape turtle dove or half-collared dove, is a widespread and often abundant dove species in East and southern Africa. It is a mostly sedentary bird, found in a variety of open habitats. Wikipedia

The mourning collared dove or African mourning dove (Streptopelia decipiens) is a dove which is a widespread resident breeding bird in Africa south of the Sahara. This species is common or abundant near water. They often mingle peacefully with other doves.

The mourning collared dove is a largish, stocky pigeon, up to 31 cm in length. Its back, wings and tail are pale brown. The head is grey and the underparts are pink, shading to pale grey on the belly. There is a black hind neck patch edged with white. The legs and a patch of bare skin around the eye are red.

This beautiful Dove was captured on a photography safari on an early morning game drive in Amboseli National Park, Kenya.
