Lagoa do Canário is one of the idyllic lagoons of the Azores archipelago, Portugal, located on the Azorean island of São Miguel, and is related to the volcanic formation of the Massif das Sete Cidades.

This lagoon is located in the Serra Devassa, in a volcanic crater, at an altitude of 800 meters and is surrounded by typical Macaronesian forests and cryptomeria plantations.

I took a short walk along Federation Trail between Hoppers Crossing Station and Skeleton Creek yesterday afternoon. Mrs. Maggie seemed to be upset that I interrupted her search for worms. She did later catch some.

I will be back after picking up the kids from school to catch up.

There is a Spiritualist theory that all things are consciousness, so I wonder if seeds can remember their origins. The seed is not only the beginnings of plants but the brain as well, when to germinate, what to do, etc. Nature, when one ponders the complexity of it all, presents an incredible marvel of thought and theory. We all take it for granted but consider all that is within the process of the seed, to germination, to growth, maturation, pollination, seeding and so it continues.

I hope everyone has had a great weekend and to have a great week ahead, so as always, thank you!

This Spring has been epic so far with both Western Tanagers and Miller moths. It has been dry and coupled with a late frost, the conditions have been perfect for a moth infestation. This tanager was sitting and enjoying the crisp morning air when suddenly he flew straight up. When he returned to his perch, he was chomping away on a moth. As you can see, the moth "dust" is flying. Yummy!

I was wrong about the tanagers moving on. Yesterday there were six males at the same time on the decks and six more ( four male and two female) this morning. In addition, we had our first sighting of a female Bullock's Oriole as well as a second male. So much fun!

Please remember why we celebrate Memorial Day today - say a prayer for fallen heroes and thank a vet!

Thanks so much to everyone who takes the time to view, like or comment on my photos!

... if you are able to listen.

Just another capture of one of the Mandarin ducks in the park, this time obviously a male. He was taking a nap but peeking at me with one eye when I took some photos while he was standing on one leg as they usually do when they are sleeping.

Do you empathise with the fish or the bird, I wonder? Several people have expressed sympathy for the fish in previous photos 'Do they ever get away?' I have been asked. Almost never.

The Great Crested Grebes work hard for their catch - they dive below the surface for about 30 seconds, cover a surprising distance under the water, and only bring up a fish every 10 - 20 dives. This one managed to catch two fish in the space of about half an hour. Nature as it is lived in the wild.
