The promise of hours-long lines, beginning at 8:15 AM? The lack of “one-stop shopping” that has one dashing all over DC to take care of business? The fear that one will get fired for being away from the office for so long?
Kyrsten has created a new honey do project for me and together we are making an electrical Trilobite out of steel and an old wheel chair.
What a trying day. Scrambling for paperwork at home, standing in line for 20 minutes at the wrong location, getting the special needs DMV worker, being threatened with paying sales tax on our car even though we already paid in California and me wanting to kill my husband all in one morning. Thank goodness Cracker Barrel serves breakfast all day. By 1PM I was normal again.
A todos se nos pierde la cordillera en invierno. Smog+bruma, tienden una nebulosa de tristeza en el aire, haciendo los dias planos y grises, perdiendo la referencia de cosas tan cercanas...
I donated blood today. It required more lying than I usually do in a month, but it feels good to know someone may be saved by my queer, tattooed blood.
But a better story.
I'm waiting in line at the DMV right now. The closest DMV to my house happens to be in a series of city buildings, each with different offices within them so of course there's a metal detector. I figure this out as I walk in.
I immediately think of the pot, and pipe in my bag. I hide the pot in my pocket since it won't set off an alarm.
I put it in the wrong pocket, though. The jar sticks out and as I pass through the detector the security officer are the top of the jar and asks to see it. I tried to get out of having to take it out, for about two seconds.
When she looked at the jar she thought for a moment and then gave it back to me, letting me pass. Holy shit.
One person behind me commented in line that he couldn't believe that happened, but that it was awesome. And it was.
The parent plant of this one tested positive for TSWV in 2021. It had only a few light markings at the top of the plant. I started two tubers from it in 2022. This one looked good, grew well, and tested positive for DMV/DCMV only. Tubers from it grown in 2023 continued to have only DMV/DCMV; the TSWV did not reappear.
