Jökulsárlón sits south of Vatnajökull, Europe's largest glacier. Huge blocks of ice calve from the glacier and those icebergs float into a lagoon ("Glacier Lagoon"). From there they keep floating towards the Atlantic Ocean, where some of them get washed ashore and sparkle on the black beach like diamonds, after having been polished by the waves. Thus, the beach designation: Diamond Beach.
This photo was taken at sunrise, on a glorious day, with beautiful weather. When I've arrived to the beach a couple of hours before sunrise, seals were easily seen in the water, looking for their morning's meal... And when the sun rose in the sky, well, the least we can say is that it was monumental! This place is utterly beautiful and will remain always in my memories as being the most extraordinary spot I've been in a marvellous trip to Iceland.

The full view of Diamond Head taken from Round Top.
Diamond Head is the name of a volcanic tuff cone on the Hawaiian island of Oʻahu and known to Hawaiians as Lēʻahi, most likely from lae 'browridge, promontory' plus ʻahi 'tuna' because the shape of the ridgeline resembles the shape of a tuna's dorsal fin.
Its English name was given by British sailors in the 19th century, who mistook calcite crystals on the adjacent beach for diamonds.
Well once again, working on location has presented me with challenges WRT subject matter and lighting. Marybeth had to come to my rescue with just about the only stone worth photographing at my son's house other than the run of the mill wall and landscaping rock/stones one would find in New Mexico. I did consider some nice river stone that almost made a solo shot. The diamond ring wound up sitting on one. As for size, ha, no worries there, it just made it under the three inches. Marybeth has really big fingers. lol.
Shot with: VOIGTLANDER, 125mm f/2.5 SL, MACRO APO-LANTHAR, Single Layer shot at f/4. Sun used for light source.
Rihanna - Diamonds
We're like diamonds in the sky
You're a shooting star I see
A vision of ecstasy
When you hold me, I'm alive
We're like diamonds in the sky
I knew that we'd become one right away
Oh, right away
At first sight I felt the energy of sun rays
I saw the life inside your eyes
So shine bright, tonight you and I
We're beautiful like diamonds in the sky
Eye to eye, so alive

One of the most photographed places in Iceland and as such I was wondering if I really should upload this picture. I do however like the cold and deserted feeling in this picture and therefore, hey.....another one! I hope you do not mind.
There are still roses blooming in the garden...I couldn't resist this unfurling bud loaded with dewdrops

"It's not that diamonds are a girl's best friend, but it's your best friends who are your diamonds. It's your best friends who are supremely resilient, made under pressure and of astonishing value. They're everlasting; they can cut glass if they need to."

A natural sculpture on a place called diamond beach in Iceland. The ice falls off the glacier into the glacier lake, a short river brings the ice into the sea and finally the waves throw the ice on diamond beach.
Jökulsárlón sits south of Vatnajökull, Europe's largest glacier. Vatnajökull which, with its surrounding area, form Iceland's largest national park, and the second largest in Europe.
This photo was taken at sunrise, on a glorious day, with beautiful weather (finally, as the two previous days had been terrible, a total loss...). When I've arrived to the beach a couple of hours before sunrise, seals were easily seen in the water, looking for their morning's meal... And when the sun rose in the sky, well, the least we can say is that it was monumental! This place is utterly beautiful and will remain always in my memories as being the most extraordinary spot I've been in that marvellous trip to Iceland.

The Diamond Firetail Finch is a highly social bird and enjoys living in pairs or small groups. They are known for their cheerful chirping and are active and playful birds that love to explore their environment. They are also intelligent birds and when kept as pets can be trained to perform simple tricks.
Wish you all a wonderful and happy day my friends :))**

Diamond Beach (Breidamerkursandur) 20210716
The Diamond Beach called Breiðamerkursandur is located between Höfn and Vík in the southeast of Iceland. Jökulsárlón Glacial Lagoon is filled with ice blocks from the Breiðamerkurjökull Glacier which float down the short Jökulsá á Breiðamerkursandi river and washed onto the black sand beach at the mouth of the river. This black beach is spectacular with an ever-changing collection of ice blocks.
The Ring Road 1 separates the Jökulsárlón Glacial Lagoon from the Atlantic Ocean and just below the road is a black sand beach. This is formed from ash and small pebbles like many of the other black sand beaches, but this one has a large difference. It is covered in sparkling icebergs.
The icebergs from the glacial lagoon are washed down the river and out to sea where they are tumbled and smoothed by the action of the waves. Like any other iceberg, they will float, and are many are washed up onto the beach. This is a never-ending cycle of change as some are washed in on the tide while others are taken from the beach.
The lagoon is full of wildlife and even from the car parks, you will have amazing encounters. Seals fish in the river and are commonly seen in the winter months lazing on icebergs and hunting in the flowing water. In the summer months, they are less common, but there are always a few buzzing around.
The east beach is where the arctic tern colony can be found. Just sitting on the beach and watching will allow you to see their acrobatics and defense tactics against the arctic skua who are bullies and known as the ‘Pirates of the Sea’.
