Subject: [avifans] LIPUTAN BLIND TEST AIKIDO LINESTAGE

To: avifans@yahoogroups.com

Date: Monday, July 7, 2008, 11:09 AM

Dear all,

Keampuhan desain Aikido linestage dari John Broskie terbukti dalam Blind Test Sabtu 5 Juli

2008 lalu.

karakter berbeda; tube amplification dan solid-state amplification. Maka, perangkat

Berikut jalannya

blind test sesi demi sesi:

SESI 1:

mk2, amplifier Jadis Defy 7 (tabung, push-pull), dan speaker Tannoy Stirling HE, rata-rata

player Linn Majik, amplifier Linn Majik 1 (solid-state) , dan speaker Linn Majik 140, Aikido

1. Aikido 6SN7 (Budiarto-Bekasi) , skor 77,44 (BEST SOUND)

2. Aikido 226-6DJ8 (Resha-Bandung) , skor 77,16

3. Aikido 6111 (Ado-Bekasi) , skor 77,06

4. Aikido ECC86 (Arif W-Tubelover) , skor 77,00

Tetapi apa pendapat pengunjung? Penilaian pengunjung justru menunjukkan bahwa

PEOPLE CHOICE (pilhan pengunjung) jatuh ke Aikido ECC86 (Arif W-Tubelover) .

SESI 2:

Kebingungan juri tak berlanjut ke sesi kedua. Setelah sempat diselingi break sambil

dinamis namun tetap musikal.

dipasangkan dengan perangkat solid state.

1. Aikido 6072-6CG7 (Didik WA), skor 78,93 (BEST SOUND)

2. Aikido EF92-E280F (Ayung-Bandung) , skor 77,13

3. Aikido E80CC-CV4003 (Ara), skor 76,78

4. Aikido 10Y (Arif W-Tubelover) , skor 74,18

Bagaimana dengan pilihan pengunjung? Kali ini ternyata pengunjung sependapat dengan

tim juri dengan memilih Aikido 6072-6CG7 (Didik WA) sebagai PEOPLE CHOICE.

SESI 3:

Sesi 3 akhirnya hanya diikuti 3 peserta setelah Arief Hidayat (Suara Audio) gagal mengatasi

masalah teknis yang timbul pada Aikido 12AT7 miliknya. Maka peserta pada sesi ini

adalah:

- Aikido 12SN7 (Paul Yahya)

- Aikido 6CG7-5687 (Arif W-Tubelover)

- Aikido 6111-6021 (Gunawan-Jess Audio)

kompetitornya. Seluruh juri akhirnya sepakat memilih Aikido 6111-6021 (Gunawan-Jess

Audio) sebagai yang terbaik di sesi 3. Jimmy Auw memberikan skor 79,13. Arief H.

memberikan skor 79,75. Najib H. memberikan skor 81,25. Sedangkan juri Arif W.

memberikan skor tertinggi 82,50.

SESI 4 (Babak Final):

Setelah break sebentar sambil menikmati suguhan martabak manis plus kopi panas, babak

Najib H. memberikan skor 85,63. Arief H. memberikan skor 84,75. Jimmy Auw

memberikan skor 80,00. Arif W. memberikan skor 80.00. Sedangkan juri Alex Pangkarego

Kegiatan benchmarking

sore itupun berlangsung menarik.

Arif Wicaksono

Nothing like your typical rock band, come to a show and you will find a seven piece group with three part vocal harmony, two violins (katy will dazzle you as she sings and plays the violin - both at the same time) and a complete rhythm section sure to please. Her self-released EP is a willing teaser for the upcoming album, "Beautiful Things," yet another DIY accomplishment to be released in the fall of 2010.

History of DIY audio

Audio DIY came to prominence in the 50s to 60s, as audio reproduction was relatively new and the technology "complex," audio reproduction equipment, and in particular high performance equipment, was not offered at the retail level. Kits and designs were available for consumers to build their own equipment. Famous vacuum tube kits from Dynaco, Heathkit, and McIntosh, as well as solid state (transistor) kits from Hafler allowed for consumers to build their own hi fidelity systems. Books and magazines were published which explained new concepts regarding the design and operation of vacuum tube and (later) transistor circuits.

While audio equipment has become easily accessible in the current day and age, there still exists an interest in building one's own equipment, including amplifiers, speakers, preamplifiers, and even CD players and turntables. Today, a network of companies, parts vendors, and on-line communities exist to foster this interest. DIY is especially active in loudspeaker and in tube amplification. Both are relatively simple to design and fabricate without access to sophisticated industrial equipment. Both enable the builder to pick and choose between various available parts, on matters of price as well as quality, allow for extensive experimentation, and offer the chance to use exotic or highly labor-intensive solutions, which would be expensive for a manufacturer to implement, but only require personal labor by the DIYer, which is a source of satisfaction to them.

Biography

Recipe for Katy Gunn: Pour equal parts of the following into large bowl: Ella Fitzgerald, Bettie Paige, Wonder Woman, Hip-Hop, pure joy, Brain-Dance, unrequited love, sinful debauchery, Idealism to a fault, and (quite a bit of) sarcasm.

Cook for any length of time to achieve varying results. All promise to be rich rich rich.

Katy Gunn - a DIYer with a vengeance, wrote and produced her solo EP - well equipped with rich vocal harmonies, soulful grooves and an intimate songwriter's sensibility. Sarcastically witty "exquisite pop" as quoted by her CD Baby review, Katy Gunn's music is all at once dark and blissful, daring and eclectic while maintaining accessibility as she always finds a way to lay down a hook with particular sophistication. To top it off, her voice is one you won't be forgetting anytime soon.

From the age of two, Katy routinely stole her brother's violin and practiced secretly in the broom closet. The path to a musical life seemed inevitable from that point on. Dropping out of high school to study classical violin at the Oberlin Conservatory, she performed at home and abroad as soloist and concert master, until eventually moving beyond the staid classical world to pursue her own musical language.

Designing and building a high power amplifier capable of driving low impedance (as low as 2 Ohm’s @ 50 Vpp) loads.

One time I got something stuck in the headphone jack of my iPhone 3G.

Being the DIYer that I am, I decided to fish it out with a Q-tip. Bad move.

From then on, no audio jack plug worked with my iPhone. The fibers from the Q-tip became stuck inside the audio jack, preventing a secure connection. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

This meant I couldn't listen to albums or podcasts on my morning commute. Thankfully, my trusty iPod Shuffle came to the rescue. I used it every single day as my on-the-go audio device until I purchased an iPhone 4S.

To say the iPod Shuffle is simple is to be coy. There's no visual interface. Just a few buttons and a clip. But its simplicity is its beauty -- and its usefulness. I use mine all the time.

The blue one was my first one. It was a refurbished model, all of $50, that lasted until I left it in a pants pocket and it took a trip through the wash cycle (I'm hard on my iPods). Try as I could to save it, it was done. Retired.

But I didn't want one of those goofy 3rd generation Chicklet models. No, I wanted real buttons. So I bought a 2nd-gen model on Amazon -- a low-key silver one that works like a dream.

These days I mainly use my Shuffle for gym workouts. The clip is everything: it helps the iPod stay out the way, stay secure, and stay with me. And it does one thing well: plays audio. Boom.

The one complaint I have is that, if you accidentally his the Reverse button, you erase all the progress on a podcast -- meaning you have to fast forward through to the point you left off. It's annoying, and it happens enough that I'm complaining about it.

But despite the abuse, despite it's simple nature, and despite being a two-generations-ago model, I do appreciate the little bugger.

A glucometer for testing blood sugars. This is where the rubber meets the road to really find out what food makes my blood sugars spike. Recommended by my chiropractor who is diabetic. Not recommended by my physician who thought it was too soon for this. I'm a DIYer so this is my sort of scene. It's easy to use, stings a little when making the pin prick to produce blood, but the device itself is kind of cool how it works. The tip of the test strip draws the blood into itself and then it beeps when it's done calculating like R2D2. Only $15 off e-Bay. Cheap to get because like printers they get you on the ongoing price of test strips and needles (also cheapest off e-Bay).

This reading taken after my tofu stir fry with veggies and a little rice. A little on the high side, but still considered normal. So far I have seen a 15 unit difference between waking up and after dinner. It's supposed to stay consistent.

Both enable the builder to pick and choose between various available parts, on matters of price as well as quality, allow for extensive experimentation, and offer the chance to use exotic or highly labor-intensive solutions, which would be expensive for a manufacturer to implement, but only require personal labor by the DIYer, which is a source of satisfaction to them.

this weekend I painted over a blue Ikea table that we had -- I used a cheesy graphic and the stump of a stick to hand-paint every dot. Yes, I AM a loser.

update: 9/6/07 this table was featured as part of an article about DIYers in the NY Times: (read here), and included with it was this picture of lil' ol' me. (to see the whole slide show of all the Hackers, click here)

Many years ago we had that lethal device that enabled us to cut our own hair, remember that? a sort of comb with blades you dragged through the hair, cutting as you went. I certainly remember my Mother attacking me with one. Strictly speaking they should be tried once then thrown away immediately, otherwise you stumble across it one day having forgotten the ordeal of last time and decide to give it another go, then you end up looking like Arthur Scargill.

I digress, well now the DIYer can experiment with another innovation in home grooming, as we know, NHS dentists are getting harder to find, and the cost of private treatment is prohibitive for most of us, thankfully there is an alternative.

Now you can pin your child down, poke about and find something in the kitchen cupboards to mix up to use as filling paste-Smash maybe? or sit in front of the mirror and do your own descaling and extractions.

Hmmm, I was thinking of a career change, £2.99 for a set of tools, and I've got some pliers in the boot of the car, bottle of Vodka / Gin for anesthetic and a 12v vacuum cleaner, maybe a little van..

The consummate DIYers, these birds are constantly refining and expanding their communal nest.

They are well adapted to the climate of the Northeast, having come from a similar climate in Argentina. The birds' diet include seeds, berries and the various "foodstuffs" that urban birds can find on the streets of New York.

A briefer version of Japanese Tourism.

Not only when on holiday, but also when having fun as a child, the Japanese like to collect symbols. They are modern totemists, they "bricole."

Levi-Strauss in one of his last formulations defined those "primities" that have a "savage mind" -- the "bricoleurs", the botching, DIYers, that think with signs-they-have-to-hand (Levi-Strauss, 1966) -- as those that do not have writing.

"The way of thinking among people we call, usually and wrongly, ‘primitive’—let’s describe them rather as ‘without writing,’ because I think this is really the discriminatory factor between them and us" (Levi-Strauss, 1978, 5)

What he meant to say was that they do not have an alphabetic writing (see the brilliant paper by Chad Hansen, 1993, "It started with Phoneticians").

The important point is not the natural constraint that Levi-Strauss proposes that "savages" face. Like the Japanese, even the totemists in totemistic societies that Levi-Strauss himself reported, had started to create their own totems (e.g. gourds, mythical animals) and are not constrained by nature.

The important point, that Derrida stress(1998), is that the "savages" remain aware of the corporeality of the sign, aware of the "trace," they remain forever "post-modern," even more so than Derrida who claims phonocentrism is inevitable, and unable to believe in "presence" of meaning, of voice as thought. The "savage" (or perhaps savant) is aware that the sign is external.

They, the Japanese, are happy to travel, to the shrine, to the local toy shop, to the "named place" (meisho) abroad to collect external signs.
