The more you let yourself be distracted from where you are going, the more you are the person that you are. It's not so much like getting lost as it is like getting found

~William Stafford

I'm really happy with this (much more so than with my last one). I didn't really edit it much except for stitching it together and overlaying a texture. I felt like it just needed a few finishing touches.

Yesterday my family and I went out to the coast (which is about an hour's drive) and it was freezing. The strong wind was the worst. We had a great time though.

Matera

is a city in the region of Basilicata, in Southern Italy.

It is the capital of the province of Matera. The town lies in a small canyon carved out by the Gravina River.

Known as la città sotterranea ("the underground city"), its historical centre "Sassi" contains ancient cave dwellings.

The exact date when these were first occupied, and the continuity of subsequent occupation, are questions that scholars still debate.

Sassi, along with the park of the Rupestrian Churches, was awarded World Heritage Site status by UNESCO in 1993.

I'm forever learning. When I saw this bird I thought it was a blue-headed wagtail, which was the only yellow wagtail variant I knew. Then a chance reading of UK rarity reports made me aware of other variants and so I did a bit of research and discovered that there are around half a dozen variants.

The best match I could find for this, and other wagtails I saw in the Algarve, is the Iberian wagtail. Blue-headed wagtails have a yellow throat, not white and the prominent white eye stripe indicates that it's not an ashy-headed wagtail. It was also in Iberia!

I discovered that this is an American Dipper, the only North American songbird that walks in the water, swims and dives. They are very much present in Lithia Park, Ashland, and that is how I found out what bird it is.

Discovered this little church and graveyard on one of my many sojourns into highland Perthshire. The graveyard contained some Commonwealth War graves.

My entry to Vignweek 2021, Day 2. The theme of the day is "historical" - specifically between 500 A.D. and 1800 A.D.

In all my years of photography, one genre I had not previously explored is woodland photography. Stepping into this new realm feels like entering a hidden world, where soft sounds and dappled light quietly draw you in. Capturing the forest’s magic demands patience and an eye for detail amid the natural chaos. Rain droplets clinging to leaves, thick moss draped over branches, shadows stretching across the forest floor as sunlight pierces the canopy—all these elements shape the scene. Colours shift constantly, from vibrant greens to deep autumn hues, each frame capturing a calm, alive moment and revealing the rainforest’s timeless beauty.

The Padrao dos Descobrimentos (Monument to the Discoveries) was inaugurated in .1960 commemorating 500 years since the death of Henry the Navigator who initiated the era of Portuguese explorers and discoveries. The monument shows 33 persons who were in some way involved in the discoveries.

There are two ways of spreading light: to be the candle or the mirror that reflects it. - Edith Wharton

Discovered this stunning little cucumber green spider, Araniella cucurbitina, clinging to the spathe of my calla lily. The spider has a brilliant lime green abdomen and I believe this specimen was a male. The droplet was not placed, but is actually due to the natural process of guttation where drops of xylem sap are exuded from the tips of some vascular plants as a result of root pressure.

Across a creek, tucked away in his perch

Over time I discovered that, with the passage of time, every form of art, whether writing, painting, music, sculpture, becomes simpler by the hand of its author.

It is as if from birth, each of us, self complicates life with restlessness, anger, unhappiness. As if it were so difficult to understand who knows who or who knows what. Then, as a lighting in the mind and, as we age, the words become simple, the linear signs, the stylized figures ... everything takes the essential form ....

But will it be an arrival or a surrender?

Who knows, in any case, if it makes us feel better, let it be....

PS Maybe it's better when I work incessantly and I do not have time to think : ))

I find the piece of music I found very beautiful, I do not know, I think I started from this piece, and then I get to this image, I hope you like it as a beginning for a new year together.

Good new beginning to all of you
