Meekats live in groups of between 20-50 extended family members, called gangs or mobs. They are specially adapted to living in harsh desert environments and depend upon each other for survival. They are found within the Kalahari Desert of Botswana, and neighbouring countries.

During daylight hours, they leave their underground tunnels to forage for food, taking in turns to act as sentry to keep a lookout for predators, which include eagles, jackels and snakes. The dark patch covering their eyes helps to reduce the glare of the sunlight, enabling them to see clearly around them.

They feed on a variety of food, including insects, small rodents, lizards, birds, fruit, eggs and even poisonous scopions, which they disarm in no time at all. When danger approaches, the meekat on sentry duty makes a distinctive bark sound, upon which they all return to the safety of their burrows.

Gang members also take it in turn to babysit and even to feed the young with milk.

But don't worry! I can be easily disarmed! But that's my little secret.

Seeing as Sam K Bricks has done an alternate Prequel trilogy/Clone Wars concept, I thought I'd take a stab at it.

Unbound fates changes the outcome of the clone wars and revenge of the Sith. The Arrest of Palpatine played differently, with Palpatine exposed, able to disarm Mace (Literally) and escape the senate building.

Fueled by rage and a sense of revenge Mace slowly began to slip further from the light, obsessively hunting down the Sith Lord. Over the next few months Windu began to sense a powerful presence in the outer rim, calling to him and enticing him to seek it out.

Padme was nominated and eventually became the new supreme chancellor, her marriage to Anakin was exposed, along with the birth of her twin children Luke and Leia.

With the revelation of Anakin's marriage the Jedi council began to discuss Anakin's future with the order.

Uncertain of his future and conflicted with emotions, Anakin decided to leave the order. He took his lightsaber, a starfighter and travelled for many months through the galaxy, trying to find peace and a sense of purpose.

Situations in the Republic began to shift. Though Palpatine's cover had been exposed, the Clone War still continued. Talks of peace treaties had been discussed, yet with no success. Padme theorized that Palpatine must still be controlling the droid armies, and began to work closely with the Jedi order to help find Palpatine and end the war.

Though heartbroken by Anakin's decision, Obi Wan still remained hopeful that Anakin would one day return. He spent more time visiting Padme and the twins, sensing the force in them and seeing the potential in their abilities.

In the darkness however, Palpatine watched the Republic from afar. Using spy droids to monitor the Jedi and the new Supreme Chancellor's every move...

Palpatine (with spy droid)

I always liked the dark red robe for Palpatine, it seems fitting for the Sith Lord.

Mace Windu

Quite darker and drastic in design, I wanted to give him a more sinister look, hinting at his fall to the dark side of the force.

Anakin Skywalker:

Simple robes inspired by episode 3 concept art for Anakin. Gave him shorter hair too.

Padme Amidala:

Still stylish as always, I originally planned to use Holdo's torso, but it didn't look right for the new Supreme Chancellor.

Obi-Wan Kenobi: Slightly darker robe and more simple in design.

Republic Senatorial guards:

kind of a fusion of the Naboo soldiers, rebel troopers and senate guards. I'd like to think Padme might have brought a few aesthetics from her homeworld into the galactic senate.

Its hard to take pictures of yourself, even with a remote switch. There are a lot of people on Flickr that do it and do it well, I admire you.

"Laws that forbid the carrying of arms . . . disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes . . . Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man."

--Thomas Jefferson, quoting Cesare Beccaria in On Crimes and Punishment (1764).

"The constitutions of most of our States assert that all power is inherent in the people; that... it is their right and duty to be at all times armed."

--Thomas Jefferson to John Cartwright, 1824.

"Rightful liberty is unobstructed action, according to our will, within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others."

-- Thomas Jefferson

"No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms. The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government"

And cut you like you want me to

Cut that little child

Inside of me and such a part of you

So old in my shoes

What's a boy supposed to do?

The killer in me is the killer in you

Clone ordnance specialists were specialized clone troopers in the Grand Army of the Republic, trained to disarm and dispose of bombs and explosive devices. This was the most dangerous job in the army and it required a gentle touch, steady nerves and a sense of how machines work from the troopers.

-Wookieepedia

Heading way back to Season 1 of the Clone Wars, I've made a Bomb Squad Clone as seen in the Blue Shadow Virus story arc.

I never quite liked Lego's version, so I decided to amp up the design and make this custom with extra detail. This figure features my new torso template along with belt decals along the side, finished with wrap-around leg and arm decals and a painted helmet. I didn't extend the arm design to the inside of the forearm because I didn't know where the design stopped.

I tried to make this as accurate to the show as possible, save for the emblem on the shoulder pad. I really found the designs on these clones interesting and thought they deserved more screen time. Coincidentally, Tyler (CAC) released his P2 Bomb Squad helmet just after I started designing this guy. I'm happy with the outcome, so I'd like to hear what you all think! Comments speak louder than faves ~

Time for a bit of a rant ...

Bernera Barracks in Glenelg was designated as a Category ‘A’ Listed Building in 1958, and as a Scheduled Ancient Monument in 1971.

The barracks were built by the Hanoverian Government after the Jacobite Rising of 1715, one of only four such barracks built in Scotland “to forestall a future uprising, maintain law and order locally, and enforce the Disarming Act of 1716 “. Two have been ‘lost’ as they were incorporated into other buildings over the years (small parts of one are visible in a farm building, the other in a hotel), and one of the others, at Ruthven , is in the care of Historic Scotland. So what about Bernera Barracks?

As you can see from these photos it has fallen into a ruinous state, is now too dangerous for people to be allowed to visit, surrounded by a fence decorated with “Danger – Keep Out” signs. It made me wonder why …

Initial searching led me to discover that the buildings are privately-owned, and it seemed that the owner had allowed them to fall into this parlous state – there were some rather epithet-laden rants aimed at this individual from people like me who have an interest in seeing historically important buildings like this preserved for future generations. It also became apparent that there had been an “Improvement Notice” served on the owner which had not been carried out.

However, digging deeper things became more complicated. The Improvement Notice had in fact been served, but on a large estate, a previous owner of the building, many years ago. The current owner is a local crofter who bought his small 40 acre farm under the Crofting Reform Act, which allowed him to buy his land from his landlord. He was not aware that this also included responsibility for maintaining the Barracks and that he would have responsibility for carrying out the Improvement Notice (which he was not informed of) when he bought the land. Obviously the hundreds of thousands of pounds which would be needed just to stabilise the buildings are well beyond the economic reach of a crofter. He is obviously not allowed to demolish the structure, but as he says:

“If anybody touched anything, there’s a good chance it would come clattering down around their heads [...] Now that I’ve got it, the ownership of it doesn’t interest me. If any other body wants it they can have it – it is a national monument, it should be owned by the nation.”

So what about these other ‘bodies’ who could take over the restoration and the upkeep of the Barracks? It seems that none of them is willing to take it over. The Highland Region would be one source of funds, but they said:

“Our shortage of funds makes it impossible. We only have £17,000 this year for ALL the 2,500 listed buildings in the Highlands.”

The Historic Buildings Council could not help because they only deal with Listed Buildings. As Bernera Barracks is both Listed AND a Scheduled Monument, they would have nothing to do with it.

So what about the Ancient Monuments Department? They stated:

“A year ago the Highland Region wrote to the AMD. The department made it clear that it acknowledged the importance of the building but could not consider taking it into state care. The Secretary of State already has Ruthven Barracks which are of the same period and of equal importance, and so at present there is no possibility of him taking responsibility for Bernera Barracks.”

It astonishes and disgusts me that no Government body is willing to step in and take responsibility for such an historically significant building - remember that there were only four such barracks built, and that two have already disappeared.

The Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Scotland’s site record notes “Incorporating stones plundered from the Glenelg brochs, it remains an impressive sight today, even though its two harled blocks - twin-gabled and rising to three and a half storeys each side of a courtyard - are reduced to pierced rubble shells, Bernera incorporates some notable modifications to the standard design: the tenement-plan accommodation was doubled by building the five-bay blocks to a double-pile plan, each capable of accommodating two companies (120 men) in 12 almost square fire-lit rooms, each with five double beds […] Though modest, the degree of architectural refinement was greater here than at the other forts; the archway in the west wall was decorated, and the windows all have keystoned segmental-arches and smooth ashlar dressings.”

There have been plans as far back as the 1980s to save and develop the barracks, but none has ever come to anything. It remains an unloved and rapidly deteriorating shell of a building which would appear to have no future.

As the leader of the local council said:

“It is a monument nobody wants”.

i was going through a rough patch last september and felt i needed to document myself when i was most vulnerable and raw. i love this picture because every time i look at it, it reminds me how far ive come and also how far i have yet to go. yea, all that in one photo... does that make any sense?

im in a much better place now though... its a new year and its going to be a great one :)
