Did this side of the bridge about an hour later as the sun was just at the correct angle to provide direct light on the side of the bridge. And yes it was really that bright out.

How did people of the previous generations lived ? Yeah, we can learn more by digging up history, from reading literature works, from old photos, videos or even relevant paintings etc. Suffice it to say, no clear picture will emerge without seeing their settings for ourselves. This is the setting for a well known scholar/high ranking official ( Viceroy of Guangdong and Guangxi ) who was "granted" a white silk scarf -- something similar to what the Japanese economy got from Plaza Accord -- by Empress Dowager, to hang himself with for having favoured the revolutionaries. One of his sons was a painter, and a well known connoisseur who helped a lot to bring Qi Baishi -- the equivalent of Van Gogh or else Monet in China -- into public eyes. His youngest son was a great historian hailed by many as the greatest ever who also carried the nickname of "the professor of the professors" in the then Beijing University, for so many professors flocked into his classes there. This was also home of a great novelist who wrote some well known short stories which had been filmed by many producers and he also authored a book on Chinese costumes of the earlier Dynasties. This also happened to be the home of a well known modern artist/painter, who won a fortune by his works probably also through a little bit of luck, as once proclaimed by himself ... and I'll endeavour to post one or two of his works in Flickr, even though I understand that few Flickr enthusiasts really care much about paintings....

I never did much with CP when we were still going to Millinocket, mainly because I was usually the conductor for that job. That being said, I did get them a few times, as seen here with Andy and Matt heading north at North Twin.

CP GP38-2 3051 is leading CMQ 9020 with about forty cars, marking the last time a CMQ engine went north to Millinocket. It's just starting to snow here, the beginning of a predicted fourteen inches of snow, and within an hour, there were already several inches of snow on the ground.

We did a longish coastwalk from Newton Ferrers to Mothecombe at the weekend. It looked like it was going to rain when we arrived at Newton Ferrers but the sky cleared to give a warmish winters day with some great views.

I did have a steam and fence shot, but I've left that at home, this one is a reminder of the snow just before Christmas so festive and now just a distant memory it would seem.

Got knocked back from a fence group last week, so this one is a little more obvious:) hope it is ok.

Happy fence Friday!

Did someone say "walnut" here?

Hat hier jemand "Walnuss" gesagt?

It did not surprise me, that nobody played tennis that day, but what was surprising that there were no kids on toboggan hill next to the courts. Kids are so used to being cooped up at home, possibly doing virtual skiing, tobogganing and yes even playing tennis on their screens. (I did play tennis once on computer). This was two weeks ago. All snow is gone now.

Did a short hike up to Mt Ettalong Lookout — a cracking spot to take in the sleepy little village of Pearl Beach.

I’ve always loved the way the beach curves away like a brushstroke of gold against the ocean.

Fun Fact: That little island off the headland is Lion Island — a nature reserve named after its shape, though from this angle it looks more like a sleepy seal than a lion to me.

Across the water are Sydney’s northern beaches — only about 3 km away as the seagull flies, but nearly a 100 km (and 90-minute!) drive to get there by car.

Maybe one day, when I win Lotto, I’ll move to Pearl Beach!

Have a great week everyone — and thanks as always for the comments, they’re truly appreciated!

Waterscape 89/100 for 2025

I did a few bike tours last week and enjoyed having the roads almost to myself. It took double the time I usually need for the distance, but it was lots of fun anyway.

I VOTED IN DALLAS COUNTY

I did stand in the balcony for quite a long time to absorb all the beauties that day had to offer in silence and prayed with gratitude for the enormous gift, until the natural sunset lights almost faded and the city lights started appearing everywhere like breaking the silence in a very solemn moment.

I kept repeating dhikr in my heart- "Subhan-Allahi wa bihamdihi, Subhan-Allah-il-Azim" (Subhan-Allahi wa bihamdihi, Subhan-Allah-il-Azim" (Glory be to Allah and His is the praise, (and) Allah, the Greatest is free from imperfection); almost like a reflex, and with the feeling as if the whole world had paused for the moment.

I went back to my old childhood days - the first days of falling in love with the beauties of the creations; where sunset skies were perhaps the most inspiratory of all other nature elements I was attentive to - the days when I used to enjoy the enchantments every day standing on the rooftop with the whole sky above me and wondering with fascination how much beauties can this little world within the great universe out there hold. The days were good; sweet and good ❤️

PS. I finished my journey with 'The Hobbit' and it kind of left an unexpressable heartache inside me. It was a great adventure, after all.

Honest opinion, please

Men call it "mansplaining stuff" but when we do it its called nagging. Cont'd from my man cave post below.

Did we see a show? No, we didn't-didn't.....

This famous Moulin Rouge cabaret theatre is one of the 'deux moulins' from which the Amelie Café takes its name. The other one, Moulin de la Galette, is a real windmill, but I didn't get a photo of it.

I did go check on the SoCal celebrity Snowy Owl over the weekend. She was still hanging out on the neighborhood rooftops by day, heading out on her hunt at dusk. I really wanted to see her fly, so I hung in there. For the last half hour or so I watched her get ready - preening, stretching, pooping, and I agonizing as I moved my ISO higher and higher. By the way, she's carefully watched by wildlife management who report she's eating well - a variety of rodents. For my own theory why she roosts on the rooftops: I think it's pretty safe for her. No animal predators like coyote or fox, and no large raptors like Red-tailed Hawks to bug her since they don't hang out in human housing developments. There's some wide-open spaces just a few blocks away from her chosen neighborhood where she can find her prey. She does tend to snuggle unphotogenically up to the rooftop vents.

Krazy technical info here, work in Lightroom and Topaz Denoise. I got 18 shots in less than a second before she flew behind a tree and I lost her.

...you could speak to your earlier self?

Another version i like.

I did this photo of a Krestrel on the top of a small tree during a day with a lot of wind, That's why I had to use 1/4000s , even the krestrel had difficulties to stay on the branch. Real ISO is 4000 and not 800 because I had to add 2.2 steps in post to recover the light.

We did the Seven Sisters walk from Beachy Head to Cuckmere Haven which was pretty tiring but there some great views to be seen on the way.

Bodnant House, one week ago...before the weather turned more towards Winter...as it certainly has today.

Glad I don't have to go out today...my wig might blow off...not a cool look for a Milk Tray Man.

Wow! where did that week go??? I don't think I've stopped at all and still have a few days to go LOL

Had to search through the archives for a fence Friday shot today.... Mum and I were here last year and were fortunate enough to have the road to ourselves :)

The dark hedges are rows of beech trees lining a road near Armoy, Ballymoney. They are some of the most photographed trees in Northern Ireland and have been made famous by the recent TV series Game of Thrones.

Wishing you all a Happy Fence Friday :)

Thank you everyone for the fantastic comments on my bluebell pic and my jumping quad pic :)
