Retour au mémorial de la bataille de l’Atlantique, que j’ai visité pendant mes vacances de Pâques. Nous sommes sur la presqu’île de Crozon, face à l’océan, dans un site de défense maritime fortifié.

Il est saisissant de pouvoir apprécier des bunkers aussi bien conservés.

Alors que nous allons fêter les résultats du débarquement, il est tout aussi interpellant de penser aux êtres humains, devenus soldats parfois malgré eux, qui ont vu chacun l’ennemi se rapprocher, dans un panorama que moi je peux savourer aujourd’hui et que je trouve magnifique.

À l’aube de ces 70 années de paix, et au vu des troubles importants dans d’autres endroits de notre planète, nul ne peut ignorer le rôle important joué par l’Europe.

Back to the memorial of the Battle of the Atlantic, which I visited during my Easter holidays. We are on the Crozon peninsula, facing the ocean, in a fortified site of maritime defense.

It is striking to appreciate bunkers also well preserved.

While we celebrate the results of the landing, it is equally questioning to think of humans, become soldiers sometimes despite themselves, who each saw the enemy approach in a panorama that I can enjoy today and that I find beautiful.

At the dawn of the 70 years of peace, and with significant unrests in other parts of our planet, one cannot ignore the important role played by Europe.

Western National 976 stands in Taunton Bus Station. It is a Leyland Atlantean PDR1/1 with Metro-Cammell highbridge bodywork, new in 1960 as Maidstone & District DH528 (later 5528). It had come to Western National after spending some time in poppy red as Hants & Dorset fleet no. 3995.
