PERSONAL FUN FACT written by my sister: This guy has such a look! I love the faces of these 2010s Kens. They are so handsome and innocent--every girl doll's dream! This guy has a very cool hairstyle too! I have to admit, I have an extreme fondness for any and all beach dolls. Because beach lines--Sun Jewel, Pearl Beach, Splash 'n Color, Florida Vacation, etc---were more affordable slim box dolls, they were more accessible to me and Shelly in our childhood. Because of the lower price, we could spend our allowance or even pool together to purchase a beach doll in a short amount of time (even on Mom's two dollar a week allowance rate), often received them as gifts, and, because of their affordability, other kids had them too, so we got so many secondhand, often multiple dolls from one line in a bin! And when Dad was parenting solo? It was easy to charm him into buying the affordable beach doll. (Forget easy, it was like asking for something as small as a candy bar--with Dad, it wasn't "this one or that one" but "I'll get you both.") Beach dolls make up so many memories that even their newer counter parts that weren't on shelves until I was--gasp--in my thirties, make me smile. Because the idea of them hasn't altered much in the past...Well, they started selling beach dolls in the 70s with Malibu, so...over 50 years! Since they've stayed so much the same for fifty years, any beach doll feels like an old friend, especially the guy dolls. This is probably because one of my favorite childhood memories was pooling our money together to buy Splash 'n Color Steven! I'd say Ken has changed even less than most--the girls from his line have molded clothes but, let's be real, molded trunks would've been...awkward. And trunks are trunks--I saw Kens with flowery trunks growing up too. Anyway, this cutie arrived here in March 2023. He was a present! He came here with a bunch of other dollies in a surprise gift box ("Mountains of Monsters."). That makes him even more special than the run of the mill beach doll...though, as I said, I think all beach dolls are special! It should also be noted--Ken was still in his box when he came here! And we got the Raquelle from his line in the same lot!

PERSONAL FUN FACT written by my sister: I absolutely LOVE the print of these shorts! They are colorful, but in a water color way...They remind me of looking through clean, shallow ocean water (not that I've done that personally, I'm not big on the ocean) and seeing the plants below the surface. These are super cool shorts and would look adorable on my many Ken dolls. However, I think their subtle but beautiful coloring is suited perfectly for the hunky beach guy they came on! Their light look works well with his features because they don't over power him. If I hadn't gotten these with him and he was a nude doll looking for clothes and these were a random fashion pack, I would think they'd suit him for sure! In this case, the manufacturers did a lovely job picking an outfit that suited the doll wearing it!

VaVaViolet & the Biebs seem to have no sense of the occasion ... !

-- Barbie Fashionistas #18 'Va Va Violet'

2015 - Mattel #DGY59

** 2014 Neysa Face Sculpt (Playline)

?? Need ID for that one-piece swimsuit,

it was on VaVa, but it was very clearly made for a smaller doll.

- and -

the tropical print board shorts were on the Biebs, they are from

Fun in the Sun/Water Play Ken - 2016 Mattel #DGT83

-- Justin Bieber jointed doll from the JB Style Collection -

2010 - Bravado

-- HRH, Princess Diana of Wales Bridal Doll 11.5"

1982 - by Goldberger

(She was someone's display doll, surely, re-sold in a badly damaged original box. Not a great resemblance to HRH, but well worth the $3 price, if only for the gown, IMO ...

and that Cathedral Train (which attaches with 2 snaps) is impressive at about 30" long)

The baggie was taped closed, so I couldn't investigate too closely before deciding whether to pay the $3 price ... but ... I could see enough of that blue wrap dress (1979/80 My First Barbie Fashions - Mattel #1368) to recognize it as a vintage item in good condition ... and that was enough for me! ;-)

The rest is just "gravy", which includes 3 dolls:

1. Barbie Cut'n Style Princess

2014 - Mattel #BCP41

** 2013 Millie opened-mouth sculpt

2. 2013 Classic Disney/Mattel Princess Belle is my best guess, she has the poseable arms, soft vinyl legs with internal knee joints, the shy side-glance, and no pronounced widow's peak hairline.

3. a cheapie blonde clone

Also:

1 pair of tropical print board shorts (from Barbie Fun in the Sun/Water Play Ken - 2016 Mattel #DGT83)

8 pairs of shoes, 1 necklace, a bunny ears headband,

a complete bikini (Barbie Beach - 2014 - Mattel #BCN23) and

2 additional bikini bottoms (1 from Beach Teresa - 2012 Mattel #X9599),

2 tutu skirts & ...

--- long skirt from

Barbie Easter Princess with Bunny (Target excl) - 2011 Mattel #W2942

... not to mention those marshmallows skewered on a stick, ready for roasting over a campfire - whoop! :-D

Some items that fall into the it's-a-total-mystery-to-me category include a silver seahorse (maybe he belongs to Ariel?).

A very small petal-cut skirt/collar/I dunno what?

A bright yellow panel with an inset, aqua-colored owl face and a tripod sort-of-a-candlestick-looking(but-not-quite-exactly)kinda-thingamabob ... ish.

Oh - and a pink sort of pouch-like thing, which I have twisted on over the clone's hair, towel-turban style.
