With horns and a red eye, this could bird could be a bit of the devil himself, but wow, such a beautiful bird! I watched a group of six for about an hour and took far more photos than I needed. Kind of hard to tear yourself away from such a beauty!

Daily ritual. Hanging out on the window ledge watching the birds and guilty of being too cute... Little devils. ☺
Sitting in my living room, I glanced outside to see this strange fog bank
developing over the bay. So I grabbed my camera and literally ran down to
the sand to capture this.
The speed at which this fog bank developed was truly amazing. Within four
minutes, it came on shore and totally enveloped the beach and Strand.
Within ten minutes, it was gone. Weird. Reminded me of that creepy 70's
movie about the mysterious Bermuda Triangle.
Every time that you fuck with me, I wanna let you go
But I can't 'cause I don't really know how to let you know

The Devil’s Pulpit was a place I really wanted to visit this year. It’s a 100 feet deep gorge just south of Drymen on the A809.
Walking Stick, Phasmatodea, also called Phasmida and Devil's darning needle on Crown of Thorns succulent. My back porch.
Southwest Arizona, USA.
The bizarre-looking, slow-moving, plant-eating walking stick - among the most intriguing of the insects - has raised camouflage, mimicry and defense to a veritable art form. Through an adaptation called "crypsis," it blends in so perfectly with its natural habitat that it often goes completely undetected by would-be predators. Its taxonomic family name, "Phasmatidae," derived from the Greek word "Phasma," means, appropriately, phantom or apparition.

Devils Tower National Monument, a unique and striking geologic wonder steeped in Native American legend, is a modern-day national park and climbers' challenge. Devils Tower sits across the state line in northeast Wyoming. The Tower is a solitary, stump-shaped granite formation that looms 1,267 feet above the tree-lined Belle Fourche River Valley, like a skyscraper in the country. Once hidden below the earth’s surface, erosion has stripped away the softer rock layers revealing the Tower.
The two-square-mile park surrounding the tower was proclaimed the nation’s first national monument by President Theodore Roosevelt in 1906. The park is covered with pine forests, woodlands, and grasslands. While visiting the park you are bound to see deer, prairie dogs, and other wildlife. The mountain’s markings are the basis for Native American legend. One legend has it that a giant bear clawed the grooves into the mountainside while chasing several young Indian maidens. Known by several northern plains tribes as Bears Lodge, it is a sacred site of worship for many American Indians. Devils Tower is also remembered as the movie location for “Close Encounters of the Third Kind.”
The stone pillar is about 1,000 feet in diameter at the bottom and 275 feet at the top and that makes it the premier rock climbing challenge in the Black Hills. Hikers enjoy the Monument’s trails. The 1.25-mile Tower Trail encircles the base. This self-guided hike offers close-up views of the forest and wildlife, not to mention spectacular views of the Tower itself. The Red Beds Trail covers a much wider three-mile loop around the tower.

Devil’s Garden
Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument
Escalante, Utah
April 2023
The Devil's Garden in Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument is a natural wonder that will leave you in awe. This rugged and remote area in Utah boasts a unique landscape of towering sandstone hoodoos, arches, and twisted rock formations that have been carved over millions of years by the forces of nature. As you hike through the otherworldly terrain, you'll feel as if you've been transported to another planet, with the red rock formations standing in stark contrast against the clear blue Utah sky. Devil's Garden is a must-visit destination for photographers or anyone seeking a sense of adventure and a deeper connection to the natural world.
A common beetle but a formidable predator. If threatened these creatures raise their tail rather like a scorpion and project their jaws which you can see in this photo. They can deliver a nasty bite and they also secrete a foul smelling substance from their rear end to deter any animal or bird which is threatening them.

The Iguassu Falls located on the border of Argentina and Brazil and consisting of approximately 257 individual falls over 2.7 kilometers. The Falls are a UNESCO World Heritage site and were chosen as one of the new natural seven wonders of the world.
The Garganta del Diablo (Devil’s throat) with its U-shape is the highlight of these majestic waterfalls. It is 82 m high, 150 m wide and 700 m long, while the rest of the falls average 64 metres.

Two visually identical species have been introduced into the north-west Atlantic Ocean, Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico. Although identification information is given below, this was derived for specimens from the native range. Lionfishes in the invaded range may differ significantly from native range specimens. At this time, positive identification can only be achieved through genetic analysis.
Pterois volitans Red Lionfish
The Red Lionfish has greatly elongated dorsal-fin spines. The membranes of all fins are often spotted. The body is white or cream coloured red to reddish-brown vertical stripes. The vertical stripes alternate from wide to very thin (with the thin stripes being more numerous) and sometimes merge along the flank to form a V-shape.
Pterois miles Devil Firefish
A closely-related species, the Devil Firefish (Pterois miles), is similar to the Red Lionfish. The Devil Firefish is found primarily in Indian Ocean and Red Sea (as opposed to the Red Lionfish, which is predominantly a Pacific species); however, its range extends to Sumatra where the two species co-occur. Although it appears very similar to the Red Lionfish, the Devil Firefish has fewer dorsal- and anal-fin rays. The Devil Firefish generally has 10 dorsal-fin rays and 6 anal-fin rays; the Red Lionfish usually has 11 dorsal-fin rays and 7 anal-fin rays. (USGS.gov)

Dust Devils. Brilliant sunset and filtered dust kicked up from the arriving tram created a cool moody atmosphere last night just before heading home. Cool effect but kind of gritty dirty that I wasn't quite expecting....... ☺
