The Nanda Devi massif resplendent under the looming dark clouds on a chilly December afternoon.

Fun fact: Before the discovery of Everest and other Eight Thousanders by the Great Trigonometrical Survey of India, Nanda Devi was considered to be the tallest mountain peak on planet Earth.

A picture of my cousin Devi and her mom, shot in 1991. Today is Devi’s 18th birthday.

May the best come to u darlingJ. Since this is again the picture of another partially damaged picture, a lot of editing had to be done. Thanks to Sreeji Babu who restored the image to printable quality. I took a print of this image recently, and got it laminated too. That goes as my birthday gift to her along with many hugs and wishesJ

Also, she is having her 12th standard board exams too today (Practicals).

Nanda Devi is the second highest mountain in India and the highest entirely within the country (Kangchenjunga being on the border of India and Nepal); owing to this geography it was considered the highest known mountain in the world until computations on Dhaulagiri by western surveyors in 1808. It was also the highest mountain in India before Sikkim joined the Indian Union. It is part of the Kumaon Himalayas, and is located in the state of Uttarakhand.

The name of Nanda Devi comes from Nanda who is the daughter of the Himalaya.

After a day full of memories and play, Remi couldn't stand it anymore and exposed Eruei's true identity. Aigara, though understanding the purpose of the Doll, couldn't deal with the disappointment and asked the "little devil" to leave. Devi would do so, to be later found by Malda and Nelde who for some reason, didn't fall for the same trick... They would then bring the Doll to their master Inquene, just for the Doll to transform once again and tell the Empress that Eruei won't be waiting to her to reach for his daughter.

Faker then would escape from Inquene's domain, with its fate unknown.

Local woman Gita Devi smiles while talking about her healthy baby boy Priyanshu Kumar Sahu whom she is breast feeding without trouble at the Anganwadi centre in Purio Sarna Toli village. Located outside Ranchi in Jharkhand, India, the centre has been rolling out the breast feeding program as part of the IKEA Social Initiative, in conjunction with UNICEF and the Government, to combat poor child health from superstitions such as eating down during pregnancy and 'hell fasting' following delivery where the mother doesn't eat for days as an act of purification. Illnesses such as diarrhea can result when babies are not fed breast milk but substitutes such as goats milk and honey. The program is proving to be very successful with education and support provided by local health activists, volunteers and program officers.

Sundar Devi is from Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh. I noticed her drinking tea at the early morning market in Dadar, Mumbai. She said, "I have lived and worked in Mumbai for 38 years. My family are here with me. We go back to Varanasi often. Sometimes they come with me., sometimes I go alone. I buy vegetables here and take them to Dharavi to sell.." Her name means beautiful (sundar) goddess (Devi).

No beauty shines brighter than that of a good heart.

Here’s the other lovely doll I got for Christmas: Devi Delacour, the demon with a good heart (according to her promotional info)! I will wait to use her stock outfit until Halloween. In the meantime, I will enjoy dressing her in non-demonic colors and styles. I love how dramatic she looks.
