Mount Erciyes (Turkish: Erciyes Dağı) is a massive stratovolcano located 25 km (16 mi) to the south of Kayseri in Turkey.

Erciyes is the highest mountain in central Anatolia, located within the ancient region of Cappadocia, with its summit reaching 3,916 m (12,848 ft). It is considered to be the highest peak of the Anti-Taurus mountain range, a northeastern extension of the Taurus Mountains to the south, and belongs to the Alpide belt in Eurasia.

The volcano is heavily eroded, but may have erupted as recently as 253 BC, as may be depicted on Roman era coins.

The Gniezno Cathedral, together with the Lech Hill, is one of the greatest monuments in Poland.

In 999, the funeral of St. Wojciech and his canonization by Pope Sylvester II. In 1000 to tomb of St. Wojciech, Emperor Otto III arrived and it was so-called The First Congress of Gniezno. The Archdiocese of Gniezno and the First Ecclesiastical Metropolis in Poland, subject only to the Pope, were created. The silver reliquary of Saint Adalbert is located in the center of the Gothic chancel of the cathedral.

In 1025, Bolesław Chrobry was crowned king here, and after his death, his son Mieszko II. In 1076, Bolesław II Szczodry was crowned king of Poland.

In the cathedral, there are the famous Gniezno Doors depicting the biography of St. Wojciech. In the basement of the cathedral, you can see the relics of a stone building from the end of the 9th century, discovered during archaeological research, and fragments of the walls of the Basilica of Mieszko I.

During the first centuries of the emerging statehood, Gniezno was the capital of Poland. The last coronation of the King of Poland, Prince Przemysł II was in 1295. Wacław II of Bohemia was also crowned king here in 1300 after the armed seizure of Gniezno. In 1331, the Teutonic Knights entered the first capital of Poland, destroying the city and the temple.

I Zjazd Gnieźnieński. Utworzono archidiecezję gnieźnieńską i I metropolię kościelną w Polsce, podległą wyłącznie papieżowi.

W 1331 roku do pierwszej stolicy Polski wkroczyli Krzyżacy, niszcząc miasto i świątynię.

The Dust Bowl was the result of a period of severe dust storms that greatly damaged the ecology and agriculture of the American and Canadian prairies during the 1930s. The phenomenon was caused by a combination of natural factors (severe drought) and man-made factors: a failure to apply dryland farming methods to prevent wind erosion, most notably the destruction of the natural topsoil by settlers in the region. The drought came in three waves: 1934, 1936, and 1939–1940, but some regions of the High Plains experienced drought conditions for as long as eight years.

The Dust Bowl has been the subject of many cultural works, including John Steinbeck's 1939 novel The Grapes of Wrath, the folk music of Woody Guthrie, and Dorothea Lange's photographs depicting the conditions of migrants, particularly Migrant Mother, taken in 1936.

The 95 ft Angelique ketch was built in 1980 to depict an English fishing trawler (circa 1880) that fished the North Sea. This picture depicts the stronghold of Blankenstein in Hattingen.

The stronghold´s tower was build in the 13.th century. The mediaevally

stronghold is 80 meters above the river Ruhr and and made of Ruhr freestone,

and 2 km to the east of Haus Kemmnade.

The Castel Blankenstein is located on the south side of the river Ruhr in Hattingen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.

Beginning in 1227, the castle was built over the course of 200 years by the Counts of the Mark. In 1614, shortly before the Thirty Years' War, it was occupied by Spanish troops.

This temple was built in mid 1800s for Burmese monks who spent time mourning the death of a local abbot. Inside is all wooden including a bamboo Buddha. The wood gives it a more spiritual ambience. Inside there is a series of wooden statues also carved in the mid 1800s depicting key scenes in the Buddha's life including when he gave his son and daughter to a beggar as slaves.

This is a tile I saw at a charity store. I am guessing it's all about Noah's Ark. I didn't buy it.

The picture captured from a small boat navigating Lake Rosselot depicts a mesmerizing scene of stormy clouds in the sky. The clouds are dark and heavy, giving a sense of impending rainfall. They appear to be dancing, swirling and twisting above the landscape, creating an atmosphere of dynamic energy.

Beneath the dramatic sky, the view extends to the surrounding area, which is characterized by the lush and vibrant rainforest jungle. The jungle is enveloped in a veil of mist and fog, adding an ethereal touch to the scenery. The cold and damp environment enhances the mystical and mysterious ambiance of the rainforest.

Despite the stormy weather, the beauty of the scene shines through. The rainforest is teeming with life, showcasing a variety of verdant green hues. Towering trees, covered in moss and hanging vines, reach towards the heavens, creating a dense canopy overhead. The interplay of light and shadow adds depth and texture to the picture.

The formations of the rainforest, visible in the distance, exhibit an awe-inspiring beauty. The rolling hills and valleys are covered with dense vegetation, showcasing the intricate patterns and layers of the jungle. The picture conveys a sense of both grandeur and intimacy, as the vastness of the rainforest is juxtaposed with the intimate details of its flora and fauna.

Overall, the photograph captures the captivating juxtaposition of the stormy clouds and the serene rainforest. It presents a breathtaking fusion of nature's power and beauty, inviting viewers to appreciate the raw and untamed wonders of the Lake Rosselot area.

Set in the narrow strait between Penmon Point and Ynys Seiriol (Puffin Island), the tower marks the north entrance to the Menai Strait and the passage between the two islands. It was built between 1835-38. Walker pioneered the use of a primitive sort of water-closet by providing a specially designed drain leading out at the base of the tower. A depiction on an historic chart dating to 1839 noted that it showed a red light at 61ft and that the fog warning was a bell. On the opposite side of the channel was a perch. The tower has been unmanned for many years. The continuous light at Trwyn-du is now checked from the Holyhead Control Centre and was converted to solar power in 1993.

Depiction of the Last Supper in the St. Janskerk in Gouda. The church in Gouda, Zuid-Holland, boasts a magnificent collection of 16th-century stained-glass windows of biblical and historical scenes. As often happened in those days, this one blends the two by showing Philip II (the infamous king of Spain) and his spouse Mary Tudor as direct witnesses of the Last Supper. As donators of the window they were entitled to a front row seat in any possible event, historical or other. The piety and act of faith shown here in this Dutch church shouldn't fool anybody as Philip became during his reign (1556-1598) by his ruthless policy one of the worst enemies of the Dutch and would eventually be kicked out of the country. The window was crafted by Dirk Crabeth in 1557.

These young kestrels (depicted in their nest box - yet these are wild birds not held in captivity) were ready to leave their nest and they actually took off the day the picture was taken. There were four of them in total, with the last one getting a bit more attention from me (but I didn't stay to not disturb its first flight).

Built about fifty years before the Temple of Neptune and 50 years after that of Hera, it has particularities that distinguish it from the other two temples and make it one of the most interesting in Greek architecture. The high pediment makes this Temple unique; the Doric frieze composed of large limestone blocks is also unique. The internal plan, simpler than that of the other two temples, was composed of the pronaos and the cell in which there are no traces of the treasure chamber (adyton).

The pronaos had eight columns with Ionic capitals, four on the front and two on each side. Of the Ionic columns of the pronaos, only the bases can be seen and two capitals (the oldest in Ionic style found in Italy) are kept in the nearby Archaeological Museum.

The discovery of numerous terracotta statuettes (ex voto) depicting Athena in votive containers proves that the Temple was not dedicated to Ceres but to the goddess of wisdom and the arts Athena. In fact, the temple stands on the highest part of the city, a place where temples in honor of Athena have always been built in Greek cities.

The English duo Snik completed this piece by the Aberdeen harbour. It depicts yet one more of their iconic frozen scenes of a dynamic action, which in this a girl being dragged into the air by small birds using a piece of rope. To hold fast is to keep strong or to hold on during stormy times. A sailing term, its a nice reference to the harbour location of their mural. There is beauty in decay. There is beauty in places that are not perfect. And there are a lot of abandoned spaces. We want to show that these spaces still have a life to them, still have a purpose and meaning. They potentially have more years in them than people realise.

These places shouldn’t just be forgotten about. And they also shouldn’t be knocked down and redeveloped every five minutes. People can be very quick to write something off if it’s not new and shiny these days.

The image depicts the tower of the Karlsruhe Palace in Karlsruhe, Baden-Württemberg, Germany. The structure is set against a wintry sky, with bare tree branches framing the scene. The tower features a dome topped with a spire and is part of a yellow and white neoclassical building. A snow-dusted path leads towards the palace through a park area, where patches of snow cover the grass. The overall ambiance suggests a cold winter evening.

The way it was as depicted by the old barn (1862) and the Shell Gas Station (1927), located at the covered bridge in Bridgeport, Nevada County. Back in the day the turnpike here was a major thoroughfare for the heavy freight wagons carrying supplies to the gold mines of Nevada County and for the silver mines in the state of Nevada.

Simon Bolivar statue in Cartagena, Colombia.

A statue depicts Simon Bolívar astride a horse in a park setting.

This statue is located in Bolívar park, in the center of the city of Cartagena. At the base of the statue is inscribed one of Bolívar’s famous sayings: “Cartagenians: If Caracas gave me life, Cartagena gave me glory.”

Simon Bolívar is known as “The Liberator,” of South America because of his efforts to free the colonies from Spanish rule. The movement for independence in Colombia began in 1810, but succeeded only in 1819 when Bolívar incorporated Colombia into the confederation of Gran Colombia. Gran Colombia included Ecuador and Venezuela (Panama was part of Colombia) until it dissolved into its component parts in 1830.

This expressionist photo depicts a distorted and fragmented figure, conveying a sense of isolation and anguish. The blurred and obscured features of the model's face, as well as the contorted positioning of their hands, evoke a sense of emotional turmoil and inner conflict. The obscured identity of the subject in the photo, coupled with their closed eyes and obscured face, adds to the enigmatic quality of the photo. The high contrast between light and shadow, as well as the soft focus and blurred edges, contribute to the overall mood of unease and intensity. The photo is intended to leave the viewer with a sense of ambiguity, uncertainty, and existential angst.

Crucifixion scene depicting Jesus, Mother Mary, and St. John the Evangelist - sculpted in walnut and dating to the 1400's.

The image depicts a narrow alleyway lined with traditional stone houses. The houses have bright green shutters that stand out against the warm, tan-colored stone. The alleyway is bathed in sunlight, casting a golden glow on the scene. The houses have red tile roofs and you can see some plants growing on the balconies. The atmosphere seems peaceful and charming, typical of a small village on the island of Mallorca on a beautiful sunny day.

The Church of St Edward, was built between the 11th and the 15th Centuries - with further additions and renovations in Victorian times - on the site of an earlier Saxon church. The present church houses traces of Norman stonework, 13th Century Early English columns and arches, and a south tower and nave clerestory of Perpendicular style. The 88ft high 4-stage tower, completed in 1447, is a conspicuous landmark with an embattled parapet with pinnacles and a string course with gargoyles.

The stonework within the church has examples of Early English nailhead decorations to the column capitals, and has cable moulding round the tops of the shafts. The nave houses several grotesque corbels and some plain head corbels (probably depicting local dignitaries).

The south aisle houses a large picture of the Crucifixion by the Flemish painter Gaspar de Craeyer, who flourished around 1610. Joseph Chamberlayne of Maugersbury Manor, Stow on the Wold gave the picture to the church in 1875.

Externally is the most striking aspect of St Edward's is the pair of ancient yew trees flanking the 17th or 18th Century North Porch.

The main gateway of Taj Mahal which is about 93 feet in height, is a masterpiece of fine inlay work in itself. It has beautifully crafted doors on the two sides, one opening towards the court-yard side to recieve visitors from all three entry gates, and the other side opening towards the grand white marble Taj

The gate has profuse inlay work of white marble and precious stones into the red sandstone surface. The top of the gate has eleven domes between two high coloumns, 22 in all, depicting the number of years it took for the constuction of the Taj Mahal complex.

This canvas is one of Duquet’s rare surviving works. It depicts the artist at her easel surrounded by her sisters in a confined domestic setting, The arrangement of their poses confers a fierce intensity on the scene, with the artist seemingly at pains to suggest her own distinct identity at centre stage. Duquet paints her own working hands enlarged and roughened, while her sister’ hands appear as raptor-like claws, spiked with blood-red nails.

A mural on High Street in Glasgow, Scotland, depicts a modern day St. Mungo, founder and patron saint of the city. Each year thousands of people gather in town to celebrate his legacy during the St. Mungo Festival.

As tourists wander Glasgow, they frequently pass an image of a gray-haired monk who, despite founding this Scottish city, remains shrouded in mystery. The most influential person in Glasgow history, he adorns its city crest, looms in its cathedral, graces street murals, and has his name on museums, schools, charities, and sports clubs.

He is St. Mungo, the illegitimate son of an alleged witch thrown from a cliff while he was in her womb. Baby Mungo somehow survived, the first of many miracles linked to Glasgow’s patron saint. Or put another way, according to the Life of Saint Mungo written by the monk, Jocelin of Furness, in about 1185, Mungo's mother was Princess Theneva (or Denw) daughter of Loth, the King of the Gododdin, who ruled an area centred on today's East Lothian. After an illicit encounter with her cousin, the young King Owain of North Rheged, now part of Galloway, Princess Theneva fell pregnant. Her unamused father had her tied to a chariot and launched off Traprain Law. It miraculously landed softly, hurting neither Theneva or her unborn child. The Gododdin, now believing Theneva also to be a witch, then cast her adrift in a coracle without oars on the River Forth. She drifted up-river and came ashore at Culross in Fife, where Kentigern was born.
