When to Lockhart, Texas, about an hours drive from me, just to take pictures. And, I spotted this fire house. I couldn't find much history on it but I did find a lot of information on the history of Lockhart. Here you go:
Caldwell County soil was found to be hospitable to cotton. After years of experimentation, Lockhart's A.D. Mebane developed a particularly hardy strain of cotton that continues to set a worldwide standard.
Oil and Texas are synonymous and Lockhart had its days as a boom town with the discovery and development of oil fields in the 1920's. Shallow field exploration continues in Caldwell County, with a major field surrounding Luling.
The coming of railroads and automobiles changed the face of Lockhart, as for all of America. The Sunset rail route reached Luling in 1874, and the Missouri, Kansas, Texas arrived in Lockhart in 1885. The first automobile in Lockhart was hand built by Lockhart blacksmith Emil Seeliger. The total cost of the contraption, including the $60 worth of tubeless tires, was $125. He took the car for its first drive in 1904, attaining the speed of 15 miles per hour.
The forest department had set up small water troughs (20 cms diameter) in the forest for small birds - while they set up large water troughs (15 - 20 feet diameter) on the ground for animals. As summer comes, these become quite busy and are a great place for sightings.
The White Bellied Blue flycatcher is another endemic of the Malabar forest in India and a pretty serious looking detective type of bird that stares suspiciously for a long time. This was a lifer and on the first day, I was amazed by the birds ability to sit and stare for minutes together without moving.
And in the background was a Brown Cheeked Fulvetta - a small super active bird found much of the subcontinent. They are social birds that are seen in flocks and known for their loud calls.
As soon as the Fulvetta came to the water trough - it was like a kid - lets have fun - dived straight into the water and was making merry. The flycatcher though landed on the edge and stared at the photographers like a minute before slowly taking a dip. I used the opportunity to take a long exposure shot 1/10 sec and am quite happy with the outcome!
Thank you so much in advance for your views, feedback and faves.

Bescot - Toton departmental just gets a little light at Lea Marston. The location never disappoints, the mist rising off the river at sunset was a bit of a first for me, it had been misty all day and this rose just before the sun went down, I guess the air got colder very quickly and helped the unusual conditions. An aeroplane departing from Birmingham is in the sky. Thanks to gen providers.

This is the flagship store of Pizitz, a department store chain in Alabama. At its peak Pizitz operated 12 other chains, mostly in the Birmingham area with some stores in Huntsville and other Alabama cities.
It was founded as the Louis Pizitz Dry Goods Co. in 1899 on this site downtown. The company was sold to McRae's in 1986.

Former Zodys Department Store that closed in 1980's and subdivided. This site was taken over by Albertsons and operated under the name of Grocery Warehouse and later Max Foods. Albertsons had originally operated a store in this same shopping center until it moved next door into the Zodys building. The former Albertsons is now a Office Depot. In 1999, Albertsons took over Lucky Supermarkets, which had a store across the street. The Lucky became an Albertsons and operated until November 21,2007. These photos were taken on November 14,2007 at around 6 am, about two hours prior to the grand opening of the new store. One of xx photos of this center.
Former site of Gemco Department Store, this former department store, which included a supermarket and pharmacy under the Gemco banner was located in Huntington Beach California at 7212 Edinger and Goldenwest was subdivided into different retail stores. The Gemco chain was split up, sold off piece meal with several sites kept by Lucky Supermarket in 1986. This site was converted after 1986, when Lucky Supermarkets, owner of Gemco Department Stores decided to close down this chain. The main portion of the former Gemco was converted to a Lucky Supermarket with a Lucky Pharmacy. When Lucky Supermarkets took over the Savon Drug Store Chain, they converted their pharmacies into Savon Pharmacies. Another section of this former department store was converted into a Toys R Us Toy Store. When Albertsons took over Lucky Supermarkets in 1999, they converted this Lucky Savon Supermarket into an Albertsons Savon Supermaket. The lease now has expired, Albertsons decided not to renew it per staff, and this Albertsons is now closed as of October 11, 2007. Photo of the signless closed store. One of xx photos of this site.
