...tons of old vinyl. Spend my day off going through a used music store, great finds and a great way to enjoy new to me tunes for cheap.

Deep Purple described by the BBC as the "unholy trinity of British hard rock and heavy metal during the genre's 1970s golden age"
Beautiful deep purple flowers of Gladiolus ‘Velvet eyes’ on a rainy Saturday afternoon. Taken in the garden. Bath, BANES, England, UK
'Deep Purple' roses. Girl at the check-out said 'well, someone's going to be happy'. Yeah, no it's just me wanting to take a picture of anything at all, and happy to spend my lunch money to do it. I must seem so sad and creepy :D
It's Labor Day weekend here in the U.S., but I'll be laboring just the same.
For Smile on Saturday’s theme: “Portray the Name of a Music Band.”
Band Name: Deep Purple
Song: “Hush”

I have often told you stories about the way
I lived the life of a drifter
Waiting for the day
When I'd take your hand and sing you songs
Then maybe you would say
"Come lay with me and love me"
And I would surely stay
But I feel I'm growing older
And the songs that I have sung
Echo in the distance
Like the sound
Of a windmill going round
Guess I'll always be a soldier of fortune
Many times I've been a traveller
I looked for something new
In days of old when nights were cold
I wandered without you
But those days I thought my eyes had seen you standing near
Though blindness is confusing
It shows that you're not here
Now I feel I'm growing older
And the songs that I have sung
Echo in the distance
Like the sound
Of a windmill going round
Guess I'll always be a soldier of fortune
I can hear the sound
Of a windmill going round
Guess I'll always be a soldier of fortune
I guess I'll always be
A soldier of fortune
Which I thought for so many years
That I would forever be
But I found you, you found me
I'm no soldier of fortune anymore
That's history, that's past
Light is always ahead
Even angels are around us

#macromondays #ontop
Another nice challenge for the upcoming weekly theme of #macromondays - simply put something #OnTop of something else. Sounds pretty easy...but what if you want to tell a little story within the Image? I shot several different pictures just as the latest posted Superhero Homer. But later on i decided to share this one with you all.

Deep Purple are an English rock band formed in Hertford, Hertfordshire, in 1968. They are considered to be among the pioneers of heavy metal and modern hard rock, although their musical approach has changed over the years. Originally formed as a psychedelic rock and progressive rock band, they shifted to a heavier sound with their 1970 album Deep Purple in Rock. Deep Purple, together with Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath, have been referred to as the "unholy trinity of British hard rock and heavy metal in the early- to mid-seventies". They were listed in the 1975 Guinness Book of World Records as "the globe's loudest band" for a 1972 concert at London's Rainbow Theatre and have sold over 100 million albums worldwide (Wikipedia)

North Stoke is a small village beside the River Thames near Wallingford, South Oxfordshire, with many beautiful private houses and gardens, lakes and small brooks. It is accessible via only one narrow lane signed as a 'dead-end', so discouraging casual visitors and ensuring considerable privacy. One former resident was actor Michael Caine, who lived at Rectory Farm House for fifteen years. Another was singer Ian Gillan of Deep Purple, whose former home, The Springs, is now a luxury hotel.
Taken at Honeysuckle Bay, just north of Batemans Bay. It is a small beach with beautiful rocks that glow when wet. Smoothing out the water with a long exposure gives an impression of smoke, with the morning sun providing "the fire". Taken during Brett Wood Photo Workshop. Featured as cover photo for the “Rocks and Water” group. See www.flickr.com/groups/93724179@N00/pool/%e2%80%a6%e2%80%a... at least for a little while………

Macro Mondays : Inspired by a Song
The song which I had to photograph was chosen from my good friend Stadt_Kind.
His theme was "Relight my fire" and you should have a look for his perfect photography here:

Here you can hear "Smoke on the Water":
And the lyrics:
We all came out to Montreux
On the Lake Geneva shoreline
To make records with a mobile
We didn't have much time
Frank Zappa and the Mothers
Were at the best place around
But some stupid with a flare gun
Burned the place to the ground
Smoke on the water, a fire in the sky
Smoke on the water
They burned down the gambling house
It died with an awful sound
Funky Claude was running in and out
Pulling kids out the ground
When it all was over
We had to find another place
But Swiss time was running out
It seemed that we would lose the race
Smoke on the water, a fire in the sky
Smoke on the water
We ended up at the Grand Hotel
It was…

As soon as I took this photo and saw it in the back of the camera, I knew I was going to call it Deep Purple.
Here’s some Deep Purple music to brighten your day, one of my favourite Deep Purple songs, but a cover by the super-group Chickenfoot which you may not have seen, and a sensational cover it is, possibly my favourite version of the song.
Chickenfoot formed in 2008 and have released two studio albums and one live album, not sure if we’ll hear any more from them. They comprised Joe Satriani on lead guitar, Sammy Hagar (Van Halen) on vocals, Michael Anthony (Van Halen) on bass and Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers) on drums.
Satch can really play guitar, not too many better in my humble opinion.
“If you can’t grow petunias, you probably should be doing something else.” – anonymous.
Luckily in Melbourne, there are often Indian Summer days that stretch into March, and there are always flowers in gardens. I could have chosen any flowers, but I chose the last of my potted petunias, which in spite of being at the end of their season, are still colourful enough to put on a good show. I hope that you like them too, that it brightens your Saturday and makes you smile.
Nature Derived Abstract
This composite composition highlights brushed pastel strokes that are colorful and energetic yet still has an appealing chalky softness. Let your eyes wander through the textures within the lively movement that was originally offered by nature.
This is one of the times I wish we could choose a lighter background.

I'm gonna race it to the ground

HDR to get the left section fired up....trees, carand highway. Then did some layer masking - DRI for the rest - buildings, sky and maybe the trees too. ;-)
Deep Purple are one of the few rock groups that I have actually seen live. Whilst at College in the early 70s, my mates dragged me along to their concert and I can testify that they were LOUD! Their warm-up group was Wishbone Ash -remember them?- who I enjoyed far more. As I was into Cat Stevens, Roxy Music and Stevie Wonder at that time, I did not enjoy it much, except for the beer!
They were set up about 1969 and after many reincarnations are still performing now, unbelievably.
