This place is a regular source of beautiful sunsets. I love the bridge as an accent to the sky and reflections in the water.
CN’s R920 job works Keen Transportation on the east side of Decatur, Illinois with a nice looking set of locomotives.
IC 1000 leading CN L564 back to Decatur out of the TZPR East Peoria Yard. These signals are original NYC signals. It’s cool to get the IC SD70 class unit underneath some original NYC signals. I’ll take it!
Image taken before the fair opened for the evening. County Fairs are a big deal in many rural areas.

Another A432 shot, this time with two CN GEs. An afternoon departure of the train from Decatur allowed for this shot in full sun, something I had been eyeing up for awhile.
A foreman (what CSX refers to their yard conductors as) walks ahead to line a switch on a brutally cold day in CSX's yard in Decatur. This line is now the property of Watco's Decatur & Eastern Illinois.

▶ Photographer's note:
I was on a Sunday morning walk with the dog when I spotted this fine fellow across the pond. Unfortunately, I didn't have a long lens with me. So, Charlie and I sat for several minutes and watched him fish.

A Decatur, IL bound NS D36 heading SE out of the city of Bloomington on the rarely used NS Bloomington District. The former BN SD40-2 with the nose headlight was a very welcomed leader to end my day after shooting an admiral cab SD40-2 w/ NS 911 on another D36 on the Bloomington District.
As the name implies, this is another sunset from my favorite spot in Decatur. The railroad bridge always provides a nice silhouette.
Parked on one of the many maze of spurs that crisscross Decatur was former Norfolk & Western SD40-2 #6108 with a small train. There was no crew aboard and I have no idea what job this would have been, but it was neat to see this old motor still out earning its keep that hasn't yet been lobotomized with a Sadmiral Cab.
The ghost of new-drinks-past, Emerson's delicious, refreshing Ginger-Mint Julep, with some future ghosts placed over the older ghost by folks who I suspect didn't appreciate the older ghost hanging out in their territory.

Decatur & Eastern Illinois Geeps take the afternoon off on a quiet Saturday in Decatur. The old Wabash (?) coaling tower looms in the background. WAMX #3896 began life as a Southern high-nosed unit, while the #3947 was originally a Delaware & Hudson engine.
KCS RWT102, the Watts Dodger, arrives Decatur, Arkansas where it will run around its train and shove into the feed mill north of town. The depot on the left was built in 1910 replacing the original wooden depot that was destroyed by fire. It was a stop on the railroad's Flying Crow (Kansas City-New Orleans/Port Arthur) which was discontinued in 1968.
We were all done with our work for the night, so I decided to go take a picture in the fog. GT #5858 and IC #9612 lead their respective consists in the Grand Avenue yard engine facility in January, 2006.
Nice to see a fairly un-modified 4-axle still at work on NS, since their numbers have dropped so much with all the purges in recent years. A Black Friday yard job is working Decatur Yard from the west end as seen from the Beltline Road overpass.
