Reynisfjara boasts several enormous basalt stacks and powerful, roaring waves off the Atlantic Ocean, and was voted as one of the top ten non-tropical beaches to visit on the planet by National Geographic. The Reynisdranger basalt stacks are named Langsamur, Landdrangur and Skessudranger or Háidrangur.

Photograph taken at an altitude of Thirty six metres at 13:39pm on Friday 9th November 2018, off Bjoovegur 1 in the land surrounding the settlement of Gönguleið um Fimmvörðuháls at Skógafoss waterfall situated on the Skógá River in the South of Iceland at the cliffs of what once was the coastline. The coastline has now receded a distance of approximately five kilometres from Skógar.

  

The waterfall is one of Icelands largest, with a width of fifteen metres and a drop of around two hundred feet.Icelandic legend tells of the first Viking settler in the area, Þrasi Þórólfsson, who buried a treasure in a cave behind the waterfall. Locals salvaged only a ring from the chest of treasure which is now located in the Skógar museum.

And WOW, long time no see my friends!

 

I've been intensively into my logo design business for the past couple of months. I didn't even touch my camera since January this year or so and I completely ignored Flickr too. I even had to refresh my Pro account again, digging through 130 new Flickr Inbox messages, 752 new Contact invitations and so on. Wow, you folks are going fast!

 

In the meantime I also built my new computer workstation I'm working on now since a couple of week, which is so fast that it completely blows me and my old computer system away.

 

Here's some specs:Pentium i7 860 quadcore, 8GB DDR3, 1GB GDDR5 Radeon, Intel 80GB SSD's, 2TB Samsung T3 Spinpoints, 24" / 26"monitors, etc. etc. etc.

 

Oh boy what a progress!

 

For instance, Photoshop CS5 here now loads in about a second, just like Windows 7 does on these new type of harddrives (SSD) The most heavy post-processing tasks are peanuts now and done within seconds instead of minutes with my old system. Lightning fast computing power became within reach, which is so darn fast that I'm really wondering how many hours I'd have gained when I had this power five years ago :P.

 

But hey, that's the good thing about technology right?

 

Anyway, it seems that I'm back and hopefully with some new, inspiring and exciting stuff - above image not included - for the next couple of months. I will try to catch up with all of you I marked as 'friend' and perhaps some new friends as well.

Photograph taken at an altitude of Six metres, at 14:23pm on Monday 20th January 2020, on a beautifully sunny afternoon off Birdcage Walk and Horse Guards Road in the grounds of St James's Park. Situated in the City Of Westminster, the Park spans twenty three Hectares and is the oldest of the Royal Parks of London, with a variety of visiting and nesting birds that include Ducks, Canada Geese and Pelicans.

  

Pelicans have existed at St James's Park for over four hundred years, originally a gift from the Russian Ambassador to King Charles II in 1664, (and subsequently referred to as 'Ambassadors Pelicans), nowadays six individuals including Louis, Vaclav and Gargi who are all Great White Pelicans (Pelecanus Onocrotalus), also known as Eastern Pelicans, White Pelicans or Rosy Pelicans, reside on Pelican Rock at one end of the lake. They eat fish from the lake and are also hand fed, and are a much loved attraction. They have the largest wingspan after the Great Albatross of up to three metres, have a body length up to six feet and males can weigh up to 15kgs.

The Bald Eagle (Haliaeetus Leucocephalus), derives it's name from the Greek for 'Sea eagle', and the 'bald' denotation actually derives from an older meaning of 'white headed'.Bald Eagles can be up to forty inches in length with a wingspan up to seven and a half feet and can wigh up to 6.3kgs. The females are generally 25% larger than the males.

Here we see an adult Starling (Sturnus vulgaris)in it's beautiful and vibrant summer plumage. A passerine bird with more than 1.8Million breeding pairs in the UK, it is none the less on the Red conservation list as the species is threatened globally. It can measure up to 21cm in length with up to a 42cm wingspan and weighs between 75-90g.

  

They eat invertebrates, fruit and are fond of fat balls and mealworm along with other bird seed in the garden.

Here we can see the black sand beach leading to Reynisfjara and Reynisdranger Basalt columns on the south coast of Iceland.

  

Reynisfjara boasts several enormous basalt stacks and powerful, roaring waves off the Atlantic Ocean, and was voted as one of the top ten non-tropical beaches to visit on the planet by National Geographic. The Reynisdranger basalt stacks are named Langsamur, Landdrangur and Skessudranger or Háidrangur.

Photograph taken at an altitude of Thirty four metres at 13:45pm on Friday 9th November 2018, off Bjoovegur 1 at Skógafoss waterfall situated on the Skógá River in the South of Iceland at the cliffs of what once was the coastline. The coastline has now receded a distance of approximately five kilometres from Skógar.

  

The waterfall is one of Icelands largest, with a width of fifteen metres and a drop of around two hundred feet.Icelandic legend tells of the first Viking settler in the area, Þrasi Þórólfsson, who buried a treasure in a cave behind the waterfall. Locals salvaged only a ring from the chest of treasure which is now located in the Skógar museum.

Photograph taken at an altitude of One hundred and ninety six metres at 13:33pm on Thursday 8th November 2018, off Biskupstungnabraut 35 at Gullfoss (Golden falls) waterfall, on the Ölfusá river in the South-west of iceland, located in the canyon of the Hvítá (white river)which begins at the Hvítárvatn glacier lake on the Langjökull glacier in the highlands of Iceland.

  

This tiered cataract waterfall has two drops of around eleven and twenty one metres, falling into a crevice thirty two metres deep and flows at a rate of between eighty and one hundred and forty cubic metres per second depending on the season.

Here we see, Sciurus Carolinensis (Eastern Gray Squirrel or Grey Squirrel), a tree squirrel native to North America and first introduced to the UK in the 1870's. Though it was largely responsible for the decimation of our own native red squirrel population, those are now on the increase and found in certain parts of the UK including Scotland. The Greys are still an ecologically essential natural forester regenerator.

New to my neighbourhood is this magnificent young Chausie, a hybrid originally bred from the non domestic species JUngle cat (Felis Chaus) and a greater number of domestic cats (Felis Silvestris catus). This one is absolutely gorgeous, incredibly friendly and the single greatest predatory hunter I have ever witnessed in my garden, catching several mice in one sitting with consumate ease. This is a brown ticked variant of the species that live to around 14 years and are highly intelligent, social and loving.

  

Chausie kittens in the UK fetch between eight hundred and two thousand pounds each.

Photograph taken at an altitude of Four metres at 12.32pm on Monday 29th May 2014 off 2903 Ocean Boulevard, Victoria, on the Esquimalt Lagoon Migratory Bird Sanctuary, on the Juan De Fuca Strait, Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada.

  

The Lagoon is one of seven Migratory Bird Sanctuaries in British Columbia, and an important stopover for birds journeying between North and South America. Visitors include geese and Swans, Bald Eagles and Great Blue Herons, plus many other species of birds.

  

The Great Blue Heron (Ardea Herodias) is a wading bird in the Heron family Ardeidae and found in North America, Central America, the Caribbean and Galapagos Islands. One of the largest of Herons, it has a head to tail length of 01-137 centimetres (36-54 inches) and a wingspan of 187-201 centimetres (66-79 inches).

 

They are found where my family live, and naturally very wary of mankind, flying off as soon as you are within fifty to one hundred yards of them.

This photograph of a female Bald Eagle was taken at 12:40pm on Tuesday 24th May 2016 near Duncan in British Columbia, Canada.

  

The Southern Bald Eagle (Haliaeetus Leucocephalus), derives it's name from the Greek for 'Sea eagle', and the 'bald' denotation actually derives from an older meaning of 'white headed'.Bald Eagles can be up to forty inches in length with a wingspan up to seven and a half feet and can weigh up to 6.3kgs. The females are generally twenty five per cent larger than the males.

  

The majority of bald eagles in Canada are found along the British Columbia coast while large populations are found in the forests of Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario Bald eagles also congregate in certain locations in winter. From November until February, one to two thousand birds winter in Squamish, British Columbia, about halfway between Vancouver and Whistler.

Patricia Bay is a body of salt water that extends East from the Saanich Inlet and forms part of the North Saanich shoreline in British Columbia. The bay was named after Princess Patricia of Connaught, daughter of the Duke of Connaught who was Governor General in 1912.

Photograph taken at an altitude of Two metres at 12:35pm on Thursday 11th November 2021 off the Western Esplanade and West Cliff Road on the shoreline of Louisa Bay in Broadstairs, Kent. The seven bays in Broadstairs consist of: (From south to north) Dumpton Gap, Louisa Bay, Viking Bay, Stone Bay, Joss Bay, Kingsgate Bay and Botany Bay.

  

We left around 9am for the hour or so 70 mile drive down the A2 to Viking bay, first stop a full English breakfast at a pub there overlooking the beach. Then time for a stroll along the beach on a cloudy day surrounded by Mother Nature, a tonic for the soul.

Photograph taken at an altitude of Two metres at 12:05pm on Tuesday 23rd May 2023 in Island View beach, a fifty one hectare regional park located on Island View Road and Homathko Road with a beautiful stretch of coastline along the Eastern shore of the Saanich Peninsula and panoramic views of Haro Strait, James Island and Mount Baker over in Whatcom County, Washington State, USA.

  

It is roughly twenty kilometres from downtown Victoria, seventeen kilometers from the Swartz Bay Ferry Terminal and twelve kilometres from Victoria airport. The District of Central Saanich is situated on the traditional territory of the W̱SÁNEĆ people which includes W̱JOȽEȽP (Tsartlip) and SȾÁUTW̱ (Tsawout) First Nations who all signed the Saanich Indian Territorial Declaration.

  

The W̱SÁNEĆ People are Salt Water People who traditionally had homes throughout the San Juan Islands, east and north coasts of the Saanich Peninsula, the Gulf Islands, northeast across Georgia Strait to Boundary Bay, the Saanich Inlet and forest lands, PKOLS (Mount Douglas), W̱QENNELEȽ (Mt. Finlayson) and SELE₭TEȽ (Goldstream and it's provincial park).

  

The Great Blue Heron (Ardea Herodias) is a wading bird in the Heron family Ardeidae and found in North America, Central Ameria, the Caribean and Galapagos Islands. One of the largest of Herons, it has a head to tail length of 01-137 centimtres (36-54 inches) and a wingspan of 187-201 centimtres (66-79 inches).

Photograph taken at an altitude of Eighty nine metres, at 13:32pm on Saturday 26th September 2019 off West Saanich Road 17A at 6440 in the grounds of Country Bee Honey farm in Saanichton on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada.

  

The farm is an amazing place which sells everything from fresh local honey and produce to wooden chickens of which I might have purchased two that now sit on my lounge table! This little guy was I believe a Pygmy goat, an American breed standing just 15 to 19 inches tall, and stocky built. They can produce large of milk and live for up to fifteen years.

Photograph taken at an altitude of Five metres at 11:06am on Tuesday August 31st 2021 off Central Parade beside Herne Bay Pier on the Thames Estuary in Kent, CT6 5JQ, England.

  

In the distance to the right can be seen the last remnants of the original pier, part of the landing stage of the 1899 1154 metre Herne Bay Pavillion Pier and Promenade company pier which was destroyed in 1978 by a storm and dismantled in 1980.

  

I left at 9am for the One hour journey down with the prospect of sun, cloud and rain showers. All I got were red flags on the beach meaning absolutely no swimming due to the strong winds and currents, and rain showers! At Herne Bay it was time for my usual stop at 'Makcari's Coffee Lounge & Ice Cream Parlour' for a slice of cherry and almond gateaux and a lovely latte coffee before a wind pounding, rain drenched stroll. So, a typical summer day in Great Britain all in all.

Photograph taken at an altitude of Three hundred and sixty two metres at 12:56pm on Monday 18th May 2015 on the A87 having passed Invergarry and Loch Garry twenty five kilometres north of Fort William, Lochaber, Scotland. Here we look over towards Loch Loyne, in the Northwest highlands of Scotland.

  

Loch Loyne originally had two stone bridges, but when the Loch was dammed in the 1950's as part of a Hydro-electric scheme, new sections of the A87 were laid and remains of the bridges are only visible when the water levels are low.

The Golden Eagle (Aquila Chrysaetos),is the most widely distributed species of Eagle, and large specimens have been recorded with a wingspan in excess of Eight feet and males weighing fourteen pounds. They have been know to maintain home territories of up to 200 kilometres and can dive at speeds of two hundred Miles per hour.

Here we look past Sidney Island and marina and Henry Island, part of the Southern Gulf Islands. This is taken as the overwhelmingly beautiful, fierce morning sky at sunrise ricochets off the ethereal low cloud and fog bank on the horizon, on what was something of a biblical scale scene in Mother Nature's hands.
