EMH’s DD11 was new to Lothian buses as their 711. It is seen here on its way back to Pumpherston having just completed its morning duties
DD13 is seen on a local 174 service to the Bay Estate from Dundalk. It is expected that DD11-16 will be withdrawn this year when new Wrights Gemini 3/Volvo B5tls arrive.
This one caught me out, as it so often did - the former Gash of Newark Atlantean caused me a lot of problems before I finally managed to get a decent shot of it, and this day was one of the problem days. I hadn't seen it arrive in town, so I wasn't ready for it when it appeared round the corner, and I fired a bit too early, maybe to avoid roaming pedestrians, of which there were many in town that day !
I did have a few more encounters with it, as it spent longer with Road Car than it did with Gash - 12 years v. 10 years.

Horsburgh have recently introduced fleet numbers to its double decker fleet, this is DD11.

Originally with Midland Red, Class DD11
On its formation WMPTE soaked up all the central (and presumably the most profitable) operations of Midland Red, leaving the outer reaches to be split into four much smaller concerns. Fortunately for the PTE the Midland Red buses acquired were numbered in a range higher than the old Birmingham fleet and did not need to be renumbered.

And then we had the 'Dash to Gash', a 70-mile cross-country trek, which seemed like a waste of daylight, when a visit to Stevenson's at Burton, and/or Derby, would have been more appropriate on such a short day. Anyway, we got there - and on the way, near Radcliffe-on-Trent, we came up behind Gash's DD11 on its way up to Newark, so our driver Chris asked if anybody wanted to finish the journey on that, at which point he overtook it and flagged it down at the next stop ! Several of us jumped off, paid our fares and rode on it to the bus station - a bit of a boost to their revenue.
This Atlantean / Roe, which was Gash's first new double-decker since RAL 795 in 1954, ended up spending longer with Road Car than it did with Gash, going there in 1989 with the wind-up of the Gash business, and staying until 2001. It took me a good few attempts to get a photo of it with them, but I got there in the end.

New to Broadstone in 2002, she moved to Galway in 2010 and was displaced from there earlier this year, with the Galway batch of DDs moving to Cork (DD11,12,14-16).Most rumors going about seem to suggest their Cork careers will be brief, with withdrawl being banded about then new VWD's arrive, alhough god knows that could change.

In the year 2000 Bus Eireann made a decision to evaluate Double Deck Buses for their Commuter Routes from Dublin, resulting in an order initially for 6 Volvo B7TL with East Lans Vyking Bodywork DD11-16 in 2001. 00D88446 is seen in Abbey Street about to load for Ashbourne on rote 103 in August 2000
Bus Éireann (Broadstone) DD22
Moving onto a peculiarity to the Bus Éireann fleet, and noted here is DD22, one of 22 East Lancs bodied B7TLs dating from 2002-4 numbered DD11-32. DD22 is looking very well turned out here having just arrived in from Ratoath on the 105, noted displaying the outbound display for its next service.
Today marks the first day of the ‘new’ 105 service, which sees it routed away from Dublin City centre to operate to/from Blanchardstown, with the 103 being enhanced to offer more departures on the Dublin - Ratoath corridor than the current 103/105 operation.

This is a Dennis Dorchester SDA806/ Alexander TC Type C47F new to Central Scottish in 1984. It later passed to Kelvin Central and is one of three coaches that received this livery before it was decided to drop the blue. It was based at Kirkintilloch depot, but was seen on a private hire outside Glasgow City Chambers
This Dennis Dominator was I believe ordered by Strathclyde Buses who cancelled them after the chassis were built. Mayne of Manchester later took this and another pair who had them bodied by East Lancashire to a design that at first glance could have been mistaken for Alexanders R type.
The trio didn't last long in Manchester either and were sold on to London & Country who had a bit of a liking for Dominators, probably as their sphere of operation covered the Dennis Factory in Guildford! DD11, as it had become, is seen in the bus station in the aforementioned town in May 1996.
The trio were later transfered to Southend in Arriva days and it was here where this one saw out its days.
After a disastrous strike by staff, Central wanted to create new local identities. One of these was E.K. Chieftain for services provided by East Kilbride Depot. Very few vehicles were painted before much more drastic action was taken by the company. This was DD11 a Dennis Dorchester SDA806 fitted with 47 seat Alexander TC type coachwork, which was built in 1984.
