I cut her face out of 20 gauge sheet which I filed, sanded and finished then textured with a ballpeen hammer and used a circular punch for her eyebrows. I wanted her to have fissures, like cracks in stone (medusa, stone, you get it), so without annealing my metal after hammering I dapped it into my leather sandbag thing until it cracked, which actually happened roughly where I wanted it to which is nothing short of amazing. Next I formed her hair from strands of 16 gauge wire, two of which I chiseled for a striped appearance, and soldered that on. I also left a rough patch of solder where her 'ear' should be.Then I twisted the front 'snake' into place and soldered it to the rest of her hair to make the bracelet part more secure. Finally I balled the ends of the wire snakes and soldered them together, added my patina and polished it all up.

This was going to be a part of a 3 piece ring that didn't quite work out and I have a cold and I'm tired, so this piece has become a ring all on its own!

The Smart Citizens Workshop was a blend of sensor technology, digital fabrication, data analysis and environmental activism, bringing together a group of able and motivated participants, being taught by top-notch maker gurus from Waag Society, data-visualization experts of FGV_DAPP, and with access to the IED Labs and the Olabi Fablab.

Ring band is sterling with a 22k/sterling bimetal dome soldered to a dapped sterling circle and bezel set. Two sterling wires and one 14K wire are soldered inside a silver tube which is soldered to the dome. Three half drilled pearls are attached to the wires. The bezel edge was hand stamped with a fish eye punch.
