The elegant Great Egret is a dazzling sight in many a North American wetlands. Slightly smaller and more svelte than a Great Blue Heron, these are still large birds with impressive wingspans.

They hunt in classic heron fashion, standing immobile or wading through wetlands to capture fish with a deadly jab of their yellow bill.

Great Egrets were hunted nearly to extinction for their plumes in the late nineteenth century, sparking conservation movements and some of the first laws to protect birds. The Great Egret is the symbol of the National Audubon Society, one of the oldest environmental organizations in North America. Audubon was founded to protect birds from being killed for their feathers.

Not all young that hatch survive the nestling period. Aggression among nestlings is common and large chicks frequently kill their smaller siblings. This behavior, known as siblicide, is not uncommon among birds such as hawks, owls, and herons, and is often a result of poor breeding conditions in a given year.

Great Egrets fly slowly but powerfully: with just two wing-beats per second their cruising speed is around 25 miles an hour.

The oldest known Great Egret was 22 years, 10 months old and was banded in Ohio.

David is a masterpiece of Italian Renaissance sculpture, created from 1501 to 1504 by Michelangelo. With a height of 5.17 m, the David was the first colossal marble statue made in the early modern period following classical antiquity, a precedent for the 16th century and beyond. David was originally commissioned as one of a series of statues of twelve prophets to be positioned along the roofline of the east end of Florence Cathedra, but was instead placed in the public square in front of the Palazzo della Signoria. In 1873, the statue was moved to the Galleria dell'Accademia, and in 1910 replaced at the original location by a replica.

Now let me tell you that taking this picture was quite a challenge for me. Every year when winter comes I feel like I was born and grew up in the wrong country. My origins being from southern Italy, I just don’t seem to be able to get used to these cold temperatures. So to venture out into the cold yesterday I had to wear what felt like a hundred layers of clothing, including a white winter jacket, bonnet and gloves, which made me look like the Michelin Tyre Man. Wearing so much didn’t make walking up the hill very easy, while trying not to attract any attention, as I was trespassing a farmer’s property and land, carrying my tripod and holding my camera with long lens, which looked like a big rifle. Of course the farmer discovered me as I couldn't be missed. Luckily he just smiled at me and greeted friendly. After all, he did get entertained for free! I wish you all a lovely Sunday!

June must be the best time of year to visit to see such a wonderful array of colour.

You Beautiful person

Man with a beautiful Brain

The man who brought Wonder to the World

I always Hoped you would Die at age 102, that felt like a good age for a genius like yourself to throw in the towel

This is a big big loss for the world...

If there was someone who put good, creative, positive and strange in a good way energy into this world it was David!

David will live in my heart forever

And i want to thank him for all the beauty he brought to my life in so so many ways

This is a dark dark and very sad day...

BUT i guess David would have to say something out of the box about it that would make me smile and see things in a different light
