An oil painting with palette knife I did of Pinnacle Ridge on Sgurr nan Gillean. It was done to remind me of a wonderful day climbing this magnificent ridge in perfect winter conditions, a great climb. I haven't had a replacement camera for a. while, but have one now, so I'll shortly be back to beach studies, to replace painting and Lino cuts. Darklands is by Jesus and Mary Chain.

To those who come from the sea shore is in the harbor of Venere and here - in the hills that covered the olive tree is also known that such sweetness Minerva forgets to Athens - her country ...”
With these verses Petrarch, in 1338, celebrated Porto Venere, still considered the "miracle panorama" of the Gulf of La Spezia. History and legend are often confused, but the sea routes of the emperor Antoninus Pius (161 AD) gives us the certainty that Porto Venere exist, as the maritime center, since Roman times, with naval function of "Portus", whose settlement was located in St. Peter, now Piazza Spallanzani (Castrum Vetus).

I look over the darkland haze,
And I see so many souls ablaze,
And I feel myself enter the darkland haze,
Detained, as I fail to see the light that points the way.
Retreat to dreams of another day,
Replace trust from along the way,
Define, collate, the thoughts profane,
Don’t look, don’t weep, pray hard to return again.
Holding onto the wasted land,
Holding onto the wasted faith,
Take away the imagery,
And let the hurt lead you on.
Embrace the fire that burns, the flames that shine,
Retrace the steps of Gods that lead to heaven,
Hell in sight, the burning kingdom draws me in,
The angels plead but I’m taken by the promises of sin,
Perverse, undignified, unpure,
Don’t look, don’t weep, pray hard, to go far away.
Fleeting thoughts conjure up the darkest notions,
Plague my dreams and invade my conscious when I’m waking,
Pacify apparitions far and wide that cross my path,
And leave me standing cold and shaking,
Scared and ashamed as I beg for reprieve,
Closed in, condemned, pray hard to return.
Don’t look, don’t weep, go back, go far away.
Holding onto the wasted land,
Holding onto the wasted faith,
Take away the imagery,
And let the hurt lead you on.
Pray Hard.
In the spirit of halloween I enhanced this old photo of twisty knobby branches extending out over the lake.
Darkland ends often by a crossroad. All the options looks right, not all of them straight, almost none bright. And there is no try, no savegame, no way back. Only hope that your decision will bring you elsewhere...

Haut-plateau volcanique ouvert et au climat rude, appartenant au Massif-Central, l'Aubrac alterne tourbières, prairies humides, forêts, cours d'eau mais surtout, comme on le voit sur ce cliché, pâturages et prairies herbeuses.

Yesterday (Dec. 23 2020) we decided we needed to get out of the valley with its low level clouds and find the sun. So we went on an adventure which took us from the Okanagan Valley over Apex Mountain to the Similkameen Valley, providing the road was good. Apex is the local ski hill and getting up to the 2400 meter (7000 ft) level was easy on a paved and bare road. At the top there was lots of snow and blue sky just as I anticipated with lots of people skiing down the runs. The road looked good, so a decision was made to continue and go down the other side. Most of the road was plowed until it started to go down hill where it turns into a goat trail and not plowed. It's a narrow one lane trail with steep drop-offs and a good thing it is down hill to the valley bottom as there was no turning back. It might not have been the smartest decision I've made, but the scenery was beautiful.
