The swampy wetland of Smuggler Cove is strewn with dormant trees. Standing on the boardwalk overlooking this wetland gives one an eerie look into what might lie below the surface. And on this occasion, the weather quickly changed with a storm front beginning to brew.
My location gave me an ideal vantage point to catch the weather change and also see the dark shadows left from the remaining light. Together, they left a unique signature.
They won't be around much longer-- Juncos usually depart this area around the end of April-- so I'm enjoying them while they are here.

The Dark-eyed Junco is one of the most common birds in North America and can be found across the continent, from Alaska to Mexico, from California to New York. A recent estimate set the junco’s total population at approximately 630 million individuals.
Dark-eyed Juncos are neat, even flashy little sparrows that flit about forest floors of the western mountains and Canada, then flood the rest of North America for winter. They’re easy to recognize by their crisp but extremely variable markings and the bright white tail feathers they habitually flash in flight. They are among the most abundant forest birds of North America and are called the "snowbirds" of the middle latitudes.
When the best thing that has ever happened to you in your life is no longer there, and your heart slowly breaks, when your soul weeps bitterly and the future seems hopeless to you, when all the happiness in you slowly fades away and your dreams leave you, then you feel the indescribable pain that something breaking that was meant for eternity.

Another shot from Nun's Cross farm taken on my walk there the other week.
As I've said a few times before, I'm not a huge fan of bright sunny days, I prefer to be on Dartmoor on grey, moody day like this, you get so much more atmosphere than you would with bright blue sky.
In other news, for those of you who don't know already, this year I've entered the UK Landscape Photographer of The Year competition and I've made it to the final round with one of my photos. I had three shots shortlisted at the first round which was an achievement in itself, but to get to the final round is amazing as well, considering some of the fantastic shots I've seen that didn't make the cut, I'm absolutely flabbergasted! I won't know until September if I've gotten any further but I'll be sure to let you know!
Thank you all for the comments 🙏💚 I really appreciate 👍

A lonely black bird, silently watching, waiting, as the darkness approaches to swallow everything. # Explored April 15
Looks like the bird is trying to contend with a big seed. If I'm not mistaken, they tend to go for smaller seeds due to their small beak and mouth.
