WIPO Director General Daren Tang (left) met on March 22, 2022, the Minister of Industry, Trade and MSMEs Victor Bisonó Haza of the Dominican Republic while on an official visit to the country.
Mr. Tang and Mr. Bisonó Haza agreed that intellectual property (IP) is not just a legal right but a powerful tool for business growth, promoting trade and investments.
They agreed on the importance of integrating IP into national IP strategies.

WIPO Director General Daren Tang (left) met on April 28, 2023, with Mr. Jin Zhuanglong, China's Minister of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).
Mr. Tang also met with Ms. Xu Xiaolan, Vice Minister of MIIT and her team that is working on issues relating to the protection and promotion of IP rights with industry.
Mr. Tang was in Beijing on an official visit to China from April 25-28, 2023.

WIPO Director General Daren Tang at a working dinner with Secretary of Culture Alejandra Frausto Guerrero at Mexico City's Palacio de Bellas Artes on March 25, 2022 during an official visit to Mexico.
The Secretary of Culture outlined her Government's priorities, noting that intellectual property (IP) is a critical component to support the development of Mexico's creative economy. Mr. Tang pledged WIPO's support to Mexico in its efforts to strengthen it's IP-supported economy.

WIPO Director General Daren Tang (right) participated in a roundtable conversation on “Intellectual property’s (IP) strategic role for technology transfer and entrepreneurship” organized by the National Institute of Intellectual Property (INAPI) and the National Agency for Research and Development (ANID) in Chile.
As part of the event, Mr. Tang met and took questions from a group of young innovators and entrepreneurs who are using IP to grow their businesses and move ideas to market.
The roundtable conversation took place during an official visit to Chile.

He wouldn't let me drive it that day because A) I was supposed to be working B) I'm a crazy driver, and oh then there's the worse excuse of all C) there was FRESH SNOW on the ground. That has to be the LAMEST excuse I've ever heard in my life. Just you wait until summer time!! He let me take the Acura NSX up the canyon a few years ago. I didn't tell him about bottoming out on the speed bumps (these cars are low!!).

The Program aims to equip diplomats and negotiators with the necessary skills to discuss IP as a tool for the creation of value – both in traditional and strategic areas of the economy. The training will be customized to the specific needs of the Dominican Republic.
“We are committed to supporting the development of the Dominican Republic’s IP system so that it can help to power innovation, creativity and the country’s recovery. Today’s agreement is a testament to the strength of our partnership and our shared conviction that IP can help drive economic and social development forward,” Mr. Tang said at the signing ceremony.

During the meeting, among other topics, they discussed steps to further enhance Hong Kong's intellectual property system as well as capacity building, with a special focus on providing intellectual property training for start-ups and SMEs. Mr. Tang commended HK IPD for their ongoing efforts and ambitious agenda, and reiterated WIPO's support for the Department's endeavors.
The meeting took place during an official visit to Hong Kong.
WIPO Director General Daren Tang discusses with young Spanish inventors and creators about their work during an event entitled “Intellectual Property and Youth: Innovating for a better Future” on February 10, 2022.
Mr. Tang talked about innovation as the journey of an idea to reality, and engaged with the audience on the challenges faced by Spanish entrepreneurs, creators and innovators. He encouraged Spanish innovators and creators to take on the world, and promised that WIPO would be with them on this journey with tools, training and support.
Co-organized by WIPO with Spain’s Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism, Ministry of Culture and Sport, the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office (OEPM), and IE Business School, the event took place in Madrid as part of Mr. Tang's three-day official visit to Spain.
