Bank von Danzig (Polish Bank Gdański) - the central bank of the issue of the Free City of Gdańsk with its seat in Gdańsk , established in November 1923 and established in February 1924. It operated until the incorporation of the Free City of Gdańsk into the Third Reich in autumn 1939.
The Bank of Gdańsk was established on the basis of the Banking Act of November 20, 1923, replacing the previously existing Gdańsk Central Bank ( Danziger Zentralkasse ), which issued the transitional currency of the Free City of Gdańsk, Gdańsk marks. On February 5, 1924 the bank was established and the statute of the Bank of Gdańsk was adopted as an institution with the exclusive right to issue the national currency, the Gdańsk guilder , which replaced the Gdańsk mark on January 1, 1924. In 1935, the bank took over from the liquidated Gdańsk Stock Exchange and Dewiz ( Danziger Effekten- und Devisenbörse) the function of setting exchange rates. The Bank of Gdańsk was liquidated shortly after the incorporation of the Free City into the Reich in September 1939.
