Obedience
The master Bankei's talks were attended not only by Zen students but by persons of all ranks and sects. He never quoted sutras nor indulged in scholastic dissertations. Instead, his words were spoken directly from his heart to the hearts of his listeners.
His large audience angered a priest of the Nichiren sect because the adherents had left to hear about Zen. The self-centered Nichiren priest came to the temple, determined to have a debate with Bankei.
"Hey, Zen teacher!" he called out. "Wait a minute. Whoever respects you will obey what you say, but a man like myself does not respect you. Can you make me obey you?"
"Come up beside me and I will show you," said Bankei.
Proudly the priest pushed his way through the crowd to the teacher.
Bankei smiled. "Come over to my left side."
The priest obeyed.
"No," said Bankei, "we may talk better if you are on the right side. Step over here."
The priest proudly stepped over to the right.
"You see," observed Bankei, "you are obeying me and I think you are a very gentle person. Now sit down and listen."

Erinnerungen an ihre tierischen Jenseitsboten müssen irgendwie noch in uns schlummern, denn sie erwachen ein wenig und regen sich, wenn wir uns in die Wildnis hinaus wagen.
Mit Schrecken werden sie wach, wenn es donnert.
Und ebenso erwachen sie , mit einem Gefühl von Wieder erkennen, wenn wir eine dieser großen bemalten Höhlen betreten. Wie die innere Dunkelheit, in welche Schamanen dieser Höhlen in ihren Trancezuständen hinabstiegen, auch angesehen haben mag, sie muss auch in uns liegen, allnächtlich im Schlaf aufgesucht.

We can call it a logic of identity in which there are neither one nor oneness, a synthesis.
Here is an example of the correctness of this logic: When a Zen master aussteckt his hand and asks:>> Why it is called a hand? <> Try this once, my friend, it is delicious. <<
This is an example of a distinction of non-distinction.
Aber in buddhistischer Sicht ist die Welt des Nicht-Unterschieds nichts Relatives, sondern etwas Absolutes; sie ist die eine absolute Welt, die durch sich selbst existiert und keinens Relativen zu ihrer Stütze bedarf.
Wir mögen uns fragen, ob solche eine Existenz für den menschlichen Geist überhaupt fassbar ist, Nein, verstandesmäßig nicht.
Daher der paradoxe Ausdruck Unterschied des Nicht-Unterschieds und Unterscheidung der Nicht-Unterscheidung oder, es umkehrend, der Nicht-Unterschied des Unterschieds und die Nicht-Unterscheidung der Unterscheidung.
Anders ausgedrückt: wir können feststellen, dass das Leben, wie wir es leben, die Identifikation der Widersprüche und nicht die Einswerdung oder Synthese der Gegensätze ist.

Das heißt nicht, dass die Verneinung eine Bejahung enthält, was ein Logiker daraus schließen könnte, denn für die Buddhisten gibt es kein derartiges Mitenthaltensein, noch irgendeine Mehrdeutigkeit, sondern diese Feststellung ist ganz und gar geradehin und direkt gemeint.
Wir können das eine Logik der Identität nennen, bei der es sich weder um eine Einswerdung noch eine Synthese handelt.
