Ok, you're right, they aren't dancing, they are play fighting, but if everyone could just use their imaginations for a moment, LOL :) Happy Valentine' Day to Everyone!

Pauta Saila (1916-2009)

Dancing Bear, 1997

Bronze, 210 x 195 x 115 centimetres

The massive arctic polar bear, distilled to the base elements of its raw strength and intricate balance, is Pauta Saila's most recognizable subject. In this case, rather than render the bear realistically, Saila's work portrays the animal's powerful movement in a simplified, fluid and slightly whimsical form.

It is the Age of Steam - Since the "incident" Apple Pie has not tasted quite so sweet.

Phineas.Taylor. Barnum (Center)

Showman, Confidence Trickster and now Gun for Hire. Following the incident He's taken the remnants of his crew and hit the trail. Travelling across the Weird West in his Bullet Train Locomotive, The Carmevil act as troubleshooters (literally) working jobs for the highest bidders. His disarming smile and pleasant nature belie the black soul that lurks within him.

Here we see him pictured with his most trusted lieutenants.

Mental Ben

The former dancing bear. After the incident he would no longer dance and became subject to fits of rage. His restraining collar works (most of the time) but if not Ernie is on hand to point his anger in the right direction.

Ernie the Bear Wrangler

In happier times Ernie used to collect money in his cap as his bear and best friend Ben danced and frolicked. Since the "incident" Ernie now just directs "Mental Ben's" rage as Mr Barnum directs him. It's not an entirely safe job hence his barbed staff and protective glove. It pains him to hurt Ben but it's for his own good (as if he doesn't do as he is told neither of them will eat).

The Great Zybsko

The Carnival's Strong Man. As well as being a first rate entertainer Zybsko would also be responsible for pulling up and taking down the Big Top. Now with the tent a burnt mass of canvas and twisted poles, Zybsko tears apart people instead. His massive weights are a deadly club and his hands wreak terrible destruction on feeble flesh and bone.

Mr Sparkles The Clown

Previously Mr Sparkles was part of a world famous double act.The death of Rainbow his twin was almost too much to bear for him. The day Rainbow died in "the incident" Mr Sparkles lost his sparkle. He threw down his red nose and swapped his jolly green and bright blue grease paint for the drab black and white of the mime. His tears have left it smudged and cracked.

Here you can see him wielding a custard pie in one hand and is that Jam on his knife?

There's nothing funny about this clown...

Background

Inspiration for this one started with a chat with Myles about his copperjack and copperbear! www.flickr.com/photos/95308576@N05/9157676018/

The Real Phineas Taylor Barnum was quite a character. take a minute to read up on him!

As a side note I'm hoping to build the "Bullet Train" with some expert guidance from Mr Michael Gale. Check out his uber realistic and detailed lego trains here;

www.flickr.com/photos/michaelgale/ He's a top fella with some top notch trainhead skills.

OTIS: "I thought Bruno is a tiny bear, but he's almost as big as you, Odessa!"

ODESSA: "Don't you know that a dancing bear is always much bigger than a standing bear!"

Happy New Year, dear Bruno!

Early morning at the Dancing Bear Inn, Nelson, BC, Canada

(2002/246)

Also there was a crowd of people surronding the bear taking pictures.

The bear was dancing to a remix of Dragostea Din Tei by Ozone, otherwise known to the internet as the Numa Numa kid song. Right now you can't go anywhere (turn on the tv, wash the dishes) in Japan without hearing it at least once a day. I'm listening to it right now. IT WON'T GO AWAY!

The Dancing Bear at Brimham Rocks in Yorkshire!

Brimham Rocks is a series of weird and wonderful rock formations set in the Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The rocks were formed over millions of years by erosion, although Victorian visitors thought they were carved by druids! There are amazing views of the area on a clear day from the top of the rocks at 300 metres.
