Another recently discovered tulip photo. I was bought a lovely selection box of tulips for my birthday last year, and this was one of the many wonderfully coloured selections that came up in the spring. Unfortunately I can’t remember the names of the varieties. Tulips are probably the most photogenic of flowers, such beautiful shapes and colours. I have some dried and frozen specimens to shoot over the winter, to keep me going until next spring. 🌷

I bought this years ago at an antiques place, but never could think of a good arrangement, because I always had it face down. It looks much better like this, and I added steam from a steam cleaner. I've done this technique before with digital, where you can keep retaking until you nail it. On film I allowed myself only one frame, and amazingly it worked! A grid lights the iron from the side, and a snoot from behind to backlight the steam.

Shot using my homemade ring flash, an ocotobox with a black card circle in the middle! I think it does a reasonable impression of a ring flash. Also, I wished the camera had a flip screen, instead had to place a large mirror behind so that I could position properly. And boy the AF on that lens is truly awful; I knew there was a reason I normally only use it for manually focused flat lays…
For this shot I have merged 7 single images with Focus Stacking. The background was illuminated with a LED flashlight.

Fotoausstellung 2022 - Thema: Nichtigkeit
From the Middle Ages to the present day, vanitas still lifes link vanity and transience with our lives. In this context, the arranged objects play a grave symbolic role.
With my modern interpretation of the vanitas still life, I would like to invite the viewer to an active mental participation and to stimulate a self-reflection on today's abundance.
The unifying element of the series is one modern object each as well as the stylistic device of levitation photography (floating objects).

Finally bought the D-lite 4 lights today :) was really in a
dilemma whether to buy it or not. but today made up my mind
and finally bought it. so this is my very frst experience with
the studio lights. i know there would be a lotta technical
errors in this shot. but tried my best, this was shot using
only one strobe. any comments and critics are much appreciated.
And i am really sorry as i haven been able to visit ur streams. was suffering from a very bad viral fever, now slowly recovering and ll soon visit ur streams :)
thanks a lot for all ur comments and support.
The light set was a striplight directly from above with an additional diffuser to get the softest possible illumination of the bottle cap. The bottle cap lies on 3 different colored sheets of clay paper.

Bored, bored, bored, bored. Horrible weather today, rain, rain, rain. Not even stormy rain, boring grey rain!
Only one real option for me and that was to try a bit of still life and practice some lighting skillz! Went to Pocklington to find some inspiration and the veg shop had some superb looking cherries, taste good as well, apparently. Also picked up a poinsettia for good measure. As I was setting up the shot I noticed reflection of the plant was accidentally being picked up by the black gloss tile, it works really well with the cherry.
Placed an Elinchrom D-Lite 400 with softbox to the left hand side, shooting though a translucent umbrella and another translucent screen to diffuse the light further. I placed a piece of card to the right hand side to light the cherry on this side a little. Finally I masked off the tile with kitchen role and sprayed a mixture of glycerin and water onto the cherry to create the 'condensation'
This final image is 3 shot focussed stack.

I really love my Leitz..
I’m not actually happy with this arrangement, I feel it would be better without the silver cup on the right, as it makes an even number of objects, would be better balanced with an odd number. Also, I think the objects should be closer together, and I should have cropped in closer. Let me know what you think.

This set was illuminated with two flash heads. One flash head with reflector and honeycomb attachment - slightly elevated - to the left of the object, which removed the background. Another flash head with snoot was behind the object on the right and indirectly illuminated the object via a Styrofoam plate, which was attached to the right of the object.
To create the high key effect, the shot was exposed at +3 EV.

It's a single shot. A long-time exposure combined with a lightpainting and a flash release on the second shutter curtain.
In the first step I created the lightpainting with a glass fiber wedel and then triggered the flash with a softbox at the end of the exposure time.

The days of the Karcher Man are gonna be limited this summer with the hose pipe ban kicking in on 1st April for London. So I got roped into cleaning my mum & dad's patio with the pressure washer before the deadline. And man does it clean quick. And get jeans, socks and trainers soaking wet! Still, it's great fun to use. Would love to get my hands on a proper fire hose and see what that baby can do! :D
With the sun shining today, it was also a great opportunity to test out the d-lites in the mid day sun! All that's needed now is a power pack and a Maxilite - should be fun!

The picture was illuminated with two system flash heads. A flash head with a reflector and honeycomb attachment from the left front next to the camera. Another viewing head with snoot and honeycomb attachment behind the acrylic back wall, which conjures a light glow around the crayon.
The pen was attached to a black string, which was removed in Photoshop.
For the Monday Macro Challenge the picture was cropped according to the specifications.

Similar to a still life I shot digitally a few years ago, I like the texture better of this version, although I don't think the square format suits it, the digital version fits better.
