Zwanen staan bekend om hun gratie en schoonheid
De meest voorkomende zwaan is de knobbelzwaan, met een roze bek wat eindigt in een zwarte knobbel. Deze knobbel is zo gevoelig dat de zwaan deze gebruikt om te voelen wat zich onder het wateroppevlak begeeft.
Zwanen zijn de vogelsoort met de langste nek. Met tussen de 23 a 25 nekwervels en rond de vijfentwintig duizend veren is dit een enorme vogel.
Vanwege de lengte van hun nek kunnen deze vogels hun hoofd buigen met de kin plat op de bodem en zo continue te slikken.

Tundra Swans are no strangers to frigid waters. They encounter them when they arrive on their breeding grounds on the tundra of northern Canada and Alaska, and often again on their way to their winter homes along the upper east and west coasts of the US.
This one was part of a family of four foraging along a narrow open stretch on the Sturgeon River.

The mute swan (Cygnus olor) is a species of swan and a member of the waterfowl family Anatidae. It is native to much of Eurosiberia, and (as a rare winter visitor) the far north of Africa. It is an introduced species in North America, home to the largest populations outside of its native range, with additional smaller introductions in Australasia and southern Africa. The name 'mute' derives from it being less vocal than other swan species. Measuring 125 to 170 cm (49 to 67 in) in length, this large swan is wholly white in plumage with an orange beak bordered with black. It is recognisable by its pronounced knob atop the beak, which is larger in males.
I stopped counting at 90 but there were at least 120-130 swans on the marsh today. There were a few Trumpeter Swans, but the majority were Tundra Swans.
Most Tundra Swans have a yellow spot lore just forward of the eye. Trumpeter Swans lack this feature. The bill of the Tundra Swan is shorter and has more of a top curve than the Trumpeter. and the black coloration does not enclose the as much as a Trumpeter Swan.
Tundra Swans are also smaller than Trumpeter Swans with an average ws of of 66" and body weight of 14.4 lb compared to the Trumpeter Swan which has a ws of 80" and body weight of 23 lb. (Sibley)

IC5068 and the Pelican in Cygnus SHO Palette (Summer 2022)
IC5068 is an HII emission nebula in Cygnus located about 1600 light years from away that is just south of its more famous neighbor, The Pelican Nebula (IC5070), about 1800 light years away, which is also an HII emission nebula. The frame also contains parts of NGC700 or the North American Nebula in the upper right corner which is about 2600 light years away.
