I would sulk , too, if I were forced to live inside a boring glass cylinder.

A Cuttlefish (Sepia officinalis) taken near Alum Bay on a protected wreck site. Natural light in poor visibility.

Had to play with the settings in Photoshop make the image passable.

Went for a night dive at Clifton Gardens tonight and took this closeup of a small cuttlefish.

It was fascinating watching the colors rippling along the back of this creature as it swam by the rocks the colors were mimicking.

This is my first ever Cuttlefish. I am IN LOVE with it.. it's so cute.. I love cuttlefeeeeshes! This guy is going to Plush You!

1 of 3 Common cuttlefish together by the wreck of the James Egan Layne.

From the MarLIN website "The common cuttlefish Sepia officinalis is a relatively broad and somewhat flattened cephalopod, appearing oval in cross section. It has a mantle length of up to 45 cm. Paired fins run from behind the head to the tip of the body. Sepia officinalis has eight arms and two elongated tentacles. These arms are specialised for grasping prey after it has been seized by the tentacles. The tentacles are cylindrical, muscular structures which can be quickly elongated. They end in a tentacular club, with five to six rows of suckers, that is specially adapted for prey capture. Males have adapted one of the arms for the purpose of transporting sperm into the female’s buccal cavity, located in her mouth. Individuals are capable of very rapid colour change, especially when threatened. They may also take the colour or patterning of its background."

We were approached by an angry cuttlefish while diving on the Lonsdale Arches.

Visit an aquarium, stand around with a camera and you can bet on the Cuttlefish coming to check you out; Bingo, I win! My thanks to the Cuttlefish.

at the birch aquarium. this is my new favorite friend

After our photowalk, we took dinner at the Whampoa Food Centre. I went for the oyster omelette and satay, but want to try this guy's salad next time. Love the cuttlefish hanging in the window.

I didn't know why it chose the colour red if it wanted to hide, because I spotted it from a mile away in the green bush he was hanging under. I found out that they change their colour to red during the mating season to attract attention. Mission accomplished, I would say. Sabang, Puerto Galera, Mindoro Oriental, Philippines

This is an utterly unintentional optical illusion. It appears that the centre of the image stands up but it is, in fact, a small 'crater'.

The image is of a 20mm square part of a Cuttlefish I found on Skar Beach, port Talbot.

I t has a small indentation that I suspect is the result of some burrowing parasite. The item had been on the beach long enough for there to be algae growing & thus highlighting the contours in the original shell growth.

Here is another shot from the Loveland Living Planet Aquarium in Draper, Utah. The aquarium has a tank with some cuttlefish, which are completely fascinating as they change colors. In this picture you can see the W shaped iris in the cuttlefish's eye. Strangely wonderful.
