This is the first in a series of Warhammer-inspired builds that I am working on. The 40K universe is yet another area of Science fiction that I have an interest in. These builds are not meant to be authentic to the mythos or details of 40K, but rather take inspiration and some design aspects from that imagery.
I built these for Blocks magazine almost two years ago (as evidenced by the photography). I was sent custom gaming minifigs, and tasked with building an environment for them. They were fun to do, and the variety kept things interesting. Unfortunately, this appears to be one of those projects that dies a slow death on the shelf, as they have yet to be published. It seemed like a reasonable time to post these, as several of these series have or will be soon seeing a new iteration.

This one was intended to be completed and posted awhile ago, but I got side-tracked with some other things. I wasn't going for any sort of strict accuracy here (as is typical with my builds), but just wanted to create a version that was a bit different than some of the uniforms seen in the game.
Like many fans, I'm excited about the upcoming Avengers movie and wanted to create a custom that ties into the film. I've already seen some great minifigs completed for the movie and many people here are working on more. It will be fun to see all those.
For this one, it was done with an armor set from Breakthrough Army and the TLC helmet. Although I like the printing on all the Lego Iron Man minifigs, in my opinion they do have a bit of a "bobblehead" look to them due to the difference in size between the head and body. A correctly-sized set of armor helps resolve that issue for me. The BA helmet has a unique look, but I still like the TLC helmet better overall. So, what you see here is my favorite combination.
As with most of my builds, I didn't go for strict accuracy, but made decisions based on what I thought would work the best and help to achieve the appearance I wanted.
With that in mind, I went mostly with the traditional red, and left out some of the gold accents featured on the new Mark XLIII armor in the movie. This created a good base for the weathering and damage effects.
Speaking of which, the idea here was to have Iron Man appear like he's in the middle of an epic battle. He has been knocked through walls and tumbled across the concrete many times during the conflict. Of course, he has given as well as he has received. The remains of an Iron Legion soldier lay at his feet, just one of dozens he has battled today. For that part, I stuck more with Lego's interpretation rather than the appearance in the movie.

I wanted to do one more Halo build before I take a break from my favorite franchise and move on to some other ideas (at least for now!). It also seemed like a good time to bring a few old friends back into the mix for this photo set, so be sure to have a look at those.
The Legendary Chief armor from Brick Affliction is my favorite of all the Halo armor sets. I really like the armor design, especially down the middle section of the minifig. The tapered design of the armor almost gives the minifig a slim appearance in some ways and flows very well. The overall effect is muscular and imposing, which fits Spartans perfectly.
Of course, this particular soldier is not Master Chief, but rather a Spartan inspired by some of the ideas in Spartan Ops and other parts of the multi-player. This one also got a bit of weathering - he has been through many battles and it definitely shows!

When I first saw Hazel's new minigun I knew exactly what I wanted to do with it. The squad needed a heavy gunner and this was the perfect weapon for him to use for mowing down enemy troops! ;)
This is also another one of those armor builds where a lot of customizing had to be done, including grinding down the base armor, using putty where needed and working the adornments and other parts into the mix.
The MJOLNIR Powered Assault Armor/V variant, more commonly known as Extra-Vehicular Activity Armor and usually referred to by the acronym EVA Armor, is a type of United Nations Space Command body armor.
It is specialized to improve survivability of SPARTAN-IIs when performing extra-vehicular activity in a vacuum. Pictured with Assault/Sapper Chest piece.

The color of Ross' hairpiece is perfect, but the shape doesn't look that great, so I may try out something else.
Here are some smugglers belonging to the Smuggler's Alliance. They are responsible for bringing back a precious cargo kept secret.
To celebrate the new BrickJournal #17, which includes a few of my Space Marines, I decided to do another 40K-inspired minifig. I haven't done any of these guys in awhile, so it was nice to add another to the lineup. :)
A few of the weapons you have seen in this current Warhammer-inspired series, along with a couple you haven't seen yet...including some added color for good measure.
So, you may need some sunglasses for this one! :)
Again, following the Halo theme of bright, colorful armor, I intentionally used shades that I thought would "pop" when viewed. It also gave me a chance to add more extreme highlighting than I usually use on my customs.
This is my last Warrior armor, so hopefully you will like the result. Be sure to check the next image, which shows the helmet detail and is also the closest representation to how the colors look when seen in person.

Well there's not much to say since this is technically not one of my usual "custom minifigs", but here's my Azrael. Brought to life by my talented friend Billy Riner. I will admit, I did make a minor change to it. I won't say what, I'll let Billy mention it if he wants to. : )
This is Jean-Paul Valley, Jr. all crazed and deadly. I definitely gave him his "gauntlet blades", but could not find it when I took the pictures.

Project Thunderbird (2071 – 2085)
Developed by Ætheon (a high-profile "private military company"/"PMC"), Project Thunderbird was the first successful of instance of “jet trooper” (colloquially known as “jetters”) being deployed into combat. Using cybernetically enhanced pilots (most of which were former US Air Force and Marines), the company was able to find work in conflict zones all over the world.
All jet suits contained an exoskeleton, joy stick controls, and numerous intakes and jets that could be adjusted in real-time for maximum maneuverability. Jet suits varied wildly according the pilot’s rank and personal preferences. Though the suit’s weaponry varied between pilots, the most popular weapons were twin rapid-fire plasma cannons and two pairs of missile launchers.
The most famous Jetter was Ariel Vazquez. Joining the program in 2072 at the age of 25, she displayed immense prowess with the suit and made headlines for her heroics in the Long Beach Excursion (2073), in which [REDACTED] surfaced off the coast of Long Beach, California and attacked the water front. Were it not for the timely intervention of the “Jetters”, the [REDACTED] would’ve wreaked untold destruction on the city proper. Vazquez would also participate in the Battle of Bend (2079), in which the nation states of Cascadia and Greater Idaho fought for control of a newly-discovered (and incredibly valuable) lithium deposit on the outskirts of Bend, Oregon. Being a PMC, Ætheon sided with the highest bidder (in this case, Greater Idaho) and wreaked massive casualties on the Cascadian military with their superior airpower.
Though effective, Project Thunderbird’s heavy and unwieldly jet suits would ultimately be phased out as the technology improved became more compact. However, it would leave a lasting impact on military combat (even going into the intergalactic age centuries later), with similar technology being deployed by the Royal Cobalt Space Navy (RCSN) via their “Gunzerker” program.

Some of the armor configurations in 40K are very large, almost to the point of absurdity. So, my goal with this one was to create the largest, most bulky armor I could without the figure actually falling over! In order to do this I also tried something else new, which was basically an armor build from scratch. I used Milliput for fill in certain areas, along with various Lego and non-Lego parts in the process.
This build was inspired by a couple of things, including the concept art I've seen for Bungie's future game, Destiny, with some traditional post-apoc elements added to the mix as well.
Once again, this minifig was inspired by MW3. This is the urban version of the ghillie suit from the game! If you guys want ghillie-making tips, feel free to ask. :3

Guild: Nocturnus
A soldier who was stranded in a massive pit during the war against Raavage, Sko-Khan spent weeks fighting off (and eating) giant scorpions (it was during this time that he ripped off a scorpion's claw and uses it as a weapon). After climbing out of the ravine himself, he became a muscle-for-hire for various Nocturnan warlords. He still carries the claw to this day, and has adorned his armor with matching scorpion imagery as a sign of respect for his old foes.
Dombard the Doom-Bard
Guild: Nocturnus
Most bards lift the spirits with stories of bravery and heroism. Not Dombard - for reasons still unknown, he aspires to make his listeners as angry and miserable as possible. His lute (forged from and doubling as an axe) is unpleasant to the ears, and his voice is described as sounding like “nails on a chalkboard” and “a vulture being strangled” It is said that the latter is so grating that it can send members of races with “sensitive hearing” (such as elves and centaurs) into catatonic shock.
Garrus
Guild: Nocturnus
Garrus saw his home of Abyssian turn to ice at the hands of Raavage’s forces. Though he survived the attack, his forearms did not, and he had them replaced with primitive prosthetics. Filled with rage, he decided to track down those responsible for the attack, adding massive swords to his prosthetics. Leaving a trail of bodies, he soon heard word that Raavage had already been killed (thus depriving him of his revenge). With no home, family, or outlet for his rage, the hulking reptilian became a brutal bounty hunter. Though he has mellowed with time, his infamous reputation remains unchanged (as does his enthusiasm for violence).
