In this activity, visitors explore the history of asteroid impacts on earth and chart their frequency and damage caused.

Ideum collaborated with Lowell Observatory on an exhibition all about asteroid science. The entire exhibition is a fictional school, Space Guard Academy, where cadets learn all about asteroids and "rank up" as they participate in different interactive learning modules.

Ideum developed 5 connected interactives, as well as a student registration station, a system to track student scores and ranks, and a "hall of fame" displaying the pictures of recent graduates. To learn more about Ideum's Creative Services, visit our website.

In this activity, visitors examine the orbits of 5 asteroids to determine which one is in resonance with Jupiter.

Ideum collaborated with Exploratorium’s Global Studios on a project that drew us outside of the realm of multitouch table development. We built a series of highly customized interactives for the Kayseri Science Center in Turkey.

In "Star Colors," visitors play a game to learn about star identification. Embedded in each of the three prop “telescopes” is a small LCD screen where visitors can “view” the stars hanging in front of them. Through a series of prompts received on the Windows Surface Tablet touch display, visitors try to correctly identify stars based on their spectral patterns. Ideum fabricated and tested the telescopes here in New Mexico.

Ideum’s industrial designers and engineers worked closely with the team at the Exploratorium to build these complex “telescope” props for the “Star Colors” interactive. The telescope utilizes an embedded 4.3" LCD screen to “view” stars hanging in the exhibition space. The stars move across the LCD as the visitor pushes the telescope from left to right. A rotary encoder embedded into a gear box at the base of the telescope relays positional data to an Arduino which then communicates that data to the application running on the Surface tablet. The telescopes were fabricated, assembled, and tested here in New Mexico.

Ideum is currently collaborating with the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco on an interactive map exhibit. Visitors will have the opportunity to zoom in close on two 17th-century maps and view translations of the Chinese writing on them. The high-resolution map images are each displayed on an Ideum Presenter 55 with 4K UHD displays.

In the interactive game, “Treasured Materials,” visitors learn about materials found in nature (wool, nacre, petroleum, etc.) by matching those materials with clues about their unique properties. This interactive can be played in single-player or two-player mode.

Each player has a set of 10 clear acrylic pucks that are embedded with natural materials and have a unique RFID tag on their underside. Clues are presented on the player’s touchscreen, and they must determine the material that those clues are referring to. To answer, the player places a puck on an animated 32x32 LED panel powered by a Teensy microcontroller. An embedded RFID reader scans the tag from the puck, and the visitor receives virtual feedback. Points are awarded based on correct answers.

Not sure why I've never uploaded this before, but I thought it might be neat to show off the css Zen Garden manager tool thingy I built years ago.

As annotated, there have been some growing pains. If this were a commercial project it might be time for a redesign.

Most important thing I learned from this: even if you're developing for an insanely ultra-controlled environment (like an audience of one), cross-browser testing is still important.

We were proud to work with the National World War II Museum again, this time for the 75th anniversary of D-Day. This new interactive experience running on an Ideum multitouch table invites visitors to explore how Andrew Higgins helped the US win World War II. The New Orleans entrepreneur developed the landing craft that were used for D-Day and most amphibious operations in WWII. The exhibit is now on view as part of the Museum's Bayou to Battlefield exhibition.

Ideum designed and developed Fish & Ships for the Sprout by HP Platform. With Fish & Ships, you can scan real-world objects that represent either fish or ships, then add them to a moving digital ocean. Once you've created your mixed-reality ocean scene, you can save it as your Sprout's screensaver.

Ideum also designed and developed Origami Apprentice, an application that guides you through the process of making origami models - including fish and ship options that look great in the Fish & Ships ocean!

Both the custom hardware and software of this Ideum touch table were designed and manufactured in the USA. The frame is lit with embedded LED lights and a remote control makes it possible to choose between a variety of colors. Crafted from aircraft-grade aluminum, the frame also features a custom color finish and our new base. Its sleek and futuristic design was originally inspired by Qualcomm Tricorder XPRIZE, which challenged teams from around the world to develop a consumer-focused, mobile integrated diagnostic device inspired by the medical Tricorder

Our team is testing our new Eclipse Camera 2019 app with a smartphone lens to ensure the highest image quality.

On July 2, 2019, a total solar eclipse will cross Chile and Argentina. Ideum’s new Eclipse Camera 2019 mobile app, available for both Android and iOS, gives viewers unique ways to take part in this amazing stellar experience.

Designed in collaboration with the Space Sciences Laboratory at UC Berkeley, Eclipse Camera 2019 makes users participants in an international citizen-science project. When people use the app to take images and video of the moon inching across the face of the sun and the glowing solar corona, those images, plus the time and location data they’re associated with, can be sent to scientists to create a massive dataset of eclipse observations.

The exhibit "Chow Time" allows guests to become a penguin during an underwater foraging trip. They hunt fish and they avoid obstacles in this touchless, kinect-based interactive exhibit.

The new Penguin Chill habitat at the Albuquerque BioPark is a groundbreaking immersive exhibition that takes visitors on a scientific journey from the southern tip of South America to the Antarctic Peninsula. Ideum designed and built exhibitry that complements the experience of watching live penguins by adding a vivid narrative in which visitors assume the role of researchers bound for the Antarctic.
