This one's beat and worn, but still pretty. Buescher made them to be visually distinctive.
The case is a typical "clamshell" style wood-framed case of the '30s. This one was made by Buescher and it is original. The green lining is a little unusual; it was an option Buescher offered, but usually Buescher's case lining is purple. Could be that the original owner thought that green would make a nice contrast to the horn's gold lacquer.

An acquaintance of mine claims that this model's mouthpipe assembly is of a monstrous diameter he characterizes as a chops-busting "Vortex of Doom". I don't know if the 215 was the base-line Custom Built horn of that time; it could be that it was a variation with a differently configured receiver and mouthpipe.

The erie clouds kept changing form and from them emerged this UFO!
This UFO is actually my latest and first custom lighted build. I bought the discontinued NIB (new in box) unbuilt Monogram model kit from ebay. I added a custom built light kit from VoodooFX and added custom made lenses from Don's Light and Magic. The clear acrylic domes I found online and replaced the red lenses that came with the kit. I also changed the blue dome LEDs that came with the light kit and soldered in aqua LEDs. I wanted to make a more accurate prop reproduction from the original TV series from 1967-68. I airbrushed using Alclad II duraluminun lacquer as the main body paint.
This horn's bell-tail appears to be more steeply tapered than on earlier models; further, the flare out to the bell seems to start earlier.
Presumably the bells on the post-war Aristocrat and Custom Built models are constructed in the same way as the pre-war horns, using Buescher's proprietary "Acousta-Bell" metal tempering and forming method as well as the secret brass formula Buescher claimed it had developed.

The fridge was ordered on December 16, but still hasn't showed up. Apparently it will be here in mid-April, but I'm not holding my breath.
