Curry at the Wall | Berlin | Best of the Wurst

Vegan dining in Berlin? It could be wurst as I found out during one of my meals when I last visited the German capital.

Being on the road for a month with a tight budget and tighter itinerary made it hard to eat as healthily as I would have liked or otherwise done. And given how craven I can be about food, it was doubly difficult being in carno-rific Germany for all that time. But I tried to do my best getting enough veggies and fiber while limiting the most excessive of treats to rare occasions.

This late night takeaway started as a cart back in 1980 building a reputation as a reliable and affordable pit stop for cabbies and clubbers. These days, Curry 36 is a brick-and-mortar operation with stand-up tables out front – and usually a queue of folks waiting to order their currywurst, bockwurst, fries and such. The place is among the most famous of classic currywurst joints. It’s where celebs, dignitaries and the like are taken to taste the real thing. Despite its popularity, Curry 36 retains a very “of the street” feel.
