The Rohingya Refugee Women in Bangladesh.

They lost their citizenship status in Myanmar, then someone lost her husband, someone lost her child, someone has lost his parents, Someone has lost his wife, Young women are raped by the Myanmar Army every day, Then, Killing him burned in the fire, somebody’s throat cut and killed they says. This story is the Rohingya people of Myanmar.

The Myanmar army and Buddhist Fundamentalism terrorist are killing common and innocent people irrespective of their caste and creed in the name of cleansing the Rohingyas. Because Rohingya Peoples are fleeing and entering to Bangladesh for save their lives. The government of Bangladesh and the general people are giving shelter to humanitarian causes and extended their hands to sympathy. But no one wants that these Rohingya refugees stay in Bangladesh for a long time.

Rohingya refugees who come to Bangladesh are saying: Myanmar Army is genocide of Rohingya Muslims and burning their homes every day, raping young girls then cut his throat and kill him and some time burned killing. According to the United Nations and Government of Bangladesh newly arrived till now, more than 700.000 thousand of Rohingya Muslims people entered in Bangladesh through different borders of Myanmar-Bangladesh. We have always had a complex relationship with technology. There are perennial claims that it may come to dominate us, or in some way undermine human values. In the 5th century BC, Plato’s dialogue the Phaedrus contained an early critique of the technology of writing at the time of its widespread adoption: Socrates voices concerns that writing will undermine human knowledge and authority and will ultimately be destructive to the Athenian polis. We find echoes of this in some of the responses to contemporary media technologies from Wikipedia to Google to Facebook. Some suggest our dependence on a range of digital ‘cognitive extension technologies’, are dumbing down culture, or even changing the nature of human consciousness.

Neuroscientist Susan Greenfield has argued Facebook and related technologies are in danger of undermining children´s abilities to relate to each in a basic face-to-face manner, though these claims have been fiercely contested. Professor Sherry Turkle, author of the influential book Alone Together has suggested our ‘pathological’ addiction to social media is making us ‘less human’. Others, such as Nicholas Carr, author of The Shallows and novelist Zadie Smith argue it’s ‘flattening us out’, turning us into two-dimensional, dumbed-down, emotionally illiterate consumers.

Yet others believe human intelligence - rather being the simple outcome of evolution on a Pleistocene savannah - is always wrapped up with our use of technology. Our minds are not in the normal sense natural, or fixed. We may indeed think differently from our ancestors before telephones, aeroplanes, pharmacology; everything from the wheel to the locomotive has undoubtedly influenced our social relations and indeed our idea of ourselves as humans. So if human intelligence has always been forged in a relation to technology, is there really anything so special about the new technologies from a cognitive standpoint? Or, do our fears about the cognitive implications of the Web 2.0 say more about today’s cultural climate of determinism and pessimism about the future and a loss of faith in humanity? What has caused so many to view the internet and mobile technology so pessimistically?

Ocean of Love in detail...Archie surrendering in the Ocean of Love

File: 2020001-0013

Somewhere in Worcestershire, England, United Kingdom, on Thursday 7th May 2020, at 8pm.

Published with the parent’s permissions.

Notice: Geotags are removed, and the exact location will not be mentioned, for privacy and safety.

About this photograph.

During the Clap for Our Carers gesture on Thursday evening, those two girls and their family stepped outside, but instead of clapping, they showed their support for the NHS (National Health Service) with a live music performance.

As you can see in the photos, one of the girls is seen playing the violin while the other girl does the singing.

I have no idea what they were singing about, nor do I know what music they played. It looked like a slow singing, maybe classic music.

In the tighter framed photos, the man in the T-shirt with sunglasses, and leaning against a car is their father. In the wider shots, the woman on the other side of the road, seen taking photos, is their mother.

You may notice a few other people stepping out of their homes, to take part in the clapping as show of support, watching the live performance.

The viewpoint was from one of my bedroom windows, as I took the photos of what was going on. I later went to their house, to seek permissions from the parents if I wanted to publish the photos, and they agreed.

Why I took the photographs?

Starting in February of 2020, my oldest child moved out to live independent, while the other child lived with the mother, I was finally free to try to restart my photography career, and if needed by going freelance. But only about a month later, in March, the United Kingdom went into a national lockdown in order to combat against the rising cases of the coronavirus, which put my plans on hold.

It was at that time I decided to try to get serious with Flickr, having registered in 2015, but been inactive for almost 5 years until I restarted using it in 2020. I was trying to find photos to upload and all that.

On that day, a Thursday at 8pm, it was time for the usual every Thursday event, to step outside and clap in show of our support for our NHS. I find it much easier to go upstairs, open the window at the front of the house, lean out and clap. From this position I can see other people clapping.

This was when I saw the family stepping outside, and setting up their small performance. That was when I went to grab my Nikon, and started trying to take photojournalism style photos as my skills are rather somewhat rusty and I could do with some new practise.

After taking the photos, I had to go over to their home, and informed their parents that I do photography, and wanted to check with them if I could have permissions to post my photos on my various profiles (not just Flickr, but also other accounts like with Adobe, etc.) The father agreed to give me permissions. I also gave them as many copies of the photos too.

About the subject.

The Clap for Our Carers event was a social movement carried out every Thursdays between March to May in 2020, in the United Kingdom as a gesture of appreciation and show of support for Britain’s National Health Service (NHS).

The idea came from Europe, likely to be either Italy and/or Spain which had lockdowns before the UK did.

On Thursdays, people would either step outside their front doors, or lean outside their windows, and give a round of applause. But some people have been taken to banging pots and pans, or playing music.

The event was meant to show our support for doctors and nurses, along with other hospital staff, but later included our show for other key workers, health services, ambulance crews, delivery drivers, waste collectors, and any other key workers who have to work during the lockdown.

In the fight against the coronavirus known as Covid-19.

Placard, Stop Brexit, Anti-Brexit march 2018, Central London.

Justin

www.justingreen19.co.uk

Feed your dimes into the slot, you're entering the melting pot

Of tabloid sleaze and slurs galore, the fading stars, those bloody wars

The doom and gloom of modern life, a cheating husbands jaded wife

Nips and tucks are all the rage to stretch your skin and hide your age

Seems that Libya's next up Joe, so arm your troops as off they go

Policing lands so far away when all they should, is stay away

To poke ones nose in other's life just leads to bloodshed, toil and strife

As weeping mothers bury sons, to worthless tributes, smoking guns

War dictates that man must fail, the splintered coffin, rusty nail

Of man's demise through greed and hate, you'll read about it on page eight.

Where Egypt buries freedom fighters, Mubarek runs, must catch the blighter

The Middle East has crashed and burned, and on page six, Camero, yearn.

iPad's have the nation hooked, whilst airlines fail, no tickets booked

And Easter looms for cash strapped wallets, your ships come in but you're not on it

A workforce battered, crushed and bruised, Obama's promises a ruse

As economic meltdown rules, those stocks and shares are just for fools

Seems fears are true, Dubai has drowned, Japan the radiation found

But on page ten the talking cat who brings a smile, you ponder at

The girl in front who curses loudly, fumbling in the purse she proudly

Waves for all the queue to view, she's first in line, not twelfth like you

As sighing, pages pass your eyes, whilst Supermarket smokes you buy

Page nine shows shots of super nova's, You're next in line, the waiting's over

As once again you tread the streets and view the news on your broadsheets

Tsunami's raging far away, vacation booked, you've yet to pay

An expert wheeled out specially announces that the world and we

Shall all be gone in forty years if globally we do not fear

The damage that we do each day to Mother nature's bright array

Through systematic greenhouse gas, the fallout zone, debris and trash

Berating all our futile wars as rich stay rich and poor stay poor

And on page twelve there's Charlie sheen, the good and bad and all between

Tales of coke and mass addiction, drugs the underlined affliction

He blames it on the wealth so young, the party's over, where's the fun?

A mown down baby, and childless mom, a burnt out Buick, loaded gun

Victims of a gangland feud where teeth are gold and senses crude

Too high to ever stop and think how life can change within the blink

Of eyes so saddened, weary, dead, the outward pomp, the inner dread

Page forty-six obituaries, the tributes paid amongst the tears

For mothers, brothers, sisters too and soldier fathers who never knew

The joy of holding baby boys who'll live with pain and play with toys

And grow to join the ranks of men who fight the futile wars again

And Albert was one hundred ten when Reaper came to claim him then

A life of smokes and alcohol, which proves the truth in words not all

We read is honest, straight and true, they fill our heads with waffle too

Bombarded daily by the fear or global chaos ever near

The weather page so full of graphs, reminds us of the Arctic drafts

And bold tornado's heading for the comfort of our battered shores

So batten down and say your prayers and hope that somehow your God cares

And on page fifteen cartoon heaven, laugh out loud, you're acting seven!

You turn the page and smile, it's sport, a chance to smile at last, you thought

The Sea hawks lost again last night, and your boy lost the boxing fight

Tiger woods has crashed a car, domestic problems seem afar

For millionaires with all to gain, who wave the cash yet feel the pain

You'll pay your dues for jackpot fame, the lottery's a waiting game

The freedom boat is docked but you're still waiting for the chance, but poor

You dream of life so far away, on sun kissed islands sandy bays

You think that you would trade it all for chiselled features, a swimming pool

But in your heart of hearts you know, the less we have, the more we grow

To live and love and understand the good inherent within a man

But life it sucks so much right now, you're waiting for the great cash cow

You could have been, you might just have, you're down at heel, you're just a chav

You're almost home on Sunday morn, you've read the pages full of scorn

Your happiness has turned so sad, the tabloid stories make you mad

You throw the paper to the floor inserting key into your door

Your dog is barking like a fool, he's chewed your favourite multi tool

The breakfast toast is up in flames, and kids are pointing, shouting names

Your loving wife in tears she sits, her treasured vase lies prone in bits

The hamster shredded your best pants, the kitchen sink is full of ants

A Sunday morning Chaos rules, you wish for peace and pray for school

But take a moment, stop and ponder, contemplate your life and yonder

You wouldn't trade, if truth were told, your present life for sacks of gold

You're old enough to realize, there's more to life than tabloid lies

The papers make you oh so glad, of others problems you've not had

If only guns were cameras and the only shots you heard,

The Origins of Kababayang Pilipino

by Mary Christine (Faron) Chan

kababayangpilipino.org/folk/site/company/the_origins/

(February 2003) - It was a decade ago last month when I first walked into Randy`s office at the UBC Student Union Building resolute in my purpose. I had just arrived from a whirlwind visit to the Philippines, the first in nearly 15 years. It had felt like a forced family junket when we departed for Manila in mid-December, along with other family friends - the Correas, the Romeros, the Mangalindans, and the Losanezs. But when the time to return to Vancouver came two weeks later, I felt torn leaving a family, a country, a culture I had known of all my life, but only then had discovered. Vancouver seemed dismal in the wet grey of winter, compelling me all the more to long for the warmth of the people and the climate of the Philippines. It was then that I realized how important my culture had become to me. How being Filipino was more than eating certain foods, laughing at certain jokes, or being brought up a certain way. Being Filipino is about expressing all of who I am as a Filipino Canadian in the face of a multicultural Canada, and proudly carrying the legacy of culture and heritage of the Filipino people that came before me - they who had made the sacrifices that brought me here today.

For this reason I was determined to make the meaning of that sacrifice relevant in the lives of those who had the blessing of a North American upbringing. Many of us, either born on Canadian soil or transplanted early from the homeland, had lacked the sensual first hand experience of the Philippine landscape and people. But we knew something about it through the dances we had learned at a young age. From the vigours of planting rice, to the coy traditions of courtship, to the religious rituals of a community, Filipino performing arts told the stories of the people and culture from which they were born. This was to become the medium through which we, as Filipino Canadians, would tell our collective story. And such was the proposal I made to Randy that afternoon, not knowing what would come of such a seemingly grand venture, but knowing only that our will was strong and our dedication unwavering.

Less than a month later, a group of 40 friends and acquaintances gathered in the living room of my parents` home in a cheery cul-de-sac. The meeting had a sole purpose: to propose the production of a community performance celebrating the music, dance, and song of our Filipino heritage. Upon sharing our common experiences growing up in the Filipino culture, it became clear that we were not alone in searching for that tangible expression of ourselves. The response was overwhelming and infectious. Before long, we had secured a strong following from across Vancouver and established a wonderful partnership with the then recently-formed Samahan ng Kabataan at SFU and the Filipino Students Association at UBC. The result was an amazing production in 1994 titled, Ang Bayan Ko - My Country, My Homeland. It was 10 months in the making - a culmination of absolute dedication, tears of difficulty, and overall, extremely hard work on the part of performers, parents, and production support. We presented our premier show at Richmond`s Gateway Theatre in November 1994, surprising our nearly sold-out audience - and ourselves - with our accomplishment. It became our standard of excellence upon which future shows were measured and improved upon.

So why is this important? How is KP`s history relevant? As the old adage goes: only in looking to your past can you know where you are today, that you may be confident in the direction of tomorrow. Today, we celebrate 10 years of KP. A decade that has seen over a dozen mainstage performances, over a hundred appearances in Canada and the U.S., and over two hundred committed volunteers and performers. That we have such a milestone to celebrate can only further affirm our need to continue the tradition that we founded together. Though many of us have moved on to a different phase in our lives, even a different place altogether, the legacy of what KP has become continues to rest with us.

And so we continue to gather, old and new for a dual purpose: for celebration and an invitation. As we cross the thresholds of milestones each year, we open the door to new hopes, aspirations, and opportunities. Thus, to you all I say: come and take your place among a cast of excellence and be part of our journey of cultural discovery that is Kababayang Pilipino. We welcome you to our stage.

One of seven Canadian Airforce CF-188A's night stopping at Prestwick tonight on the way to the Mediteranian to help in support of the UN no fly zone over Libya.

In June 2010, the Saville Inquiry published its report into the killing, in 1972, of 13 unarmed civilians by the British Army in Derry, Northern Ireland. The inquiry sat for 12 years and cost more than £190 million – the longest and most expensive inquiry in British legal history.

The event, known worldwide as Bloody Sunday, was one of the most notorious in the long history of The Troubles. Among those present that day at a civil rights march was Father Edward Daly, a local priest. Under gunfire, he waved a bloodstained handkerchief as he led a group of people carrying the dying John Duddy, a teenager, away from the mayhem. This harrowing scene has become probably the most vividly enduring image of The Troubles, and to this day is depicted in a wall mural in Derry (top image).

In his book Ireland – A Terrible Beauty (1976), Leon Uris wrote: “For a time Father Daly had to leave Derry, for the agony of it had become unbearable. Then, in one of the hierarchy’s most enlightened decisions, he was named Bishop of Derry. This most Christian of men and most gentle of souls returned... for he was incapable of doing less.”

In my journalistic days with Thames Television, I was fortunate enough to work in Northern Ireland for some years during The Troubles, and I came to personally know the Bishop as a man of great humanity and integrity. In the bottom image, I’m on the left and Peter Taylor, now a veteran BBC reporter specialising in global terrorism, is on the right. The photograph was taken after we’d recorded an interview (unrelated to the events five years previously) for the This Week programme on 27 January 1977.

More of my Northern Ireland material from those days is here.
