This is an assortment of metal gizmos from my dad's tool box. I love this kind of thing, as you know.

I am thinking of choosing a straight-hair wig for when my hair falls out. I've always wanted straight hair.

(Susan, that blonde wig you gave me as a joke just might come in handy! Go ahead. Dare me to wear it!))

A cyclone in the South Pacific has created some big waves off Sydney. This breaking wave seen at Curl Curl. HDR processing to bring out more structure in the image.

A panoramic view of Curl Curl beach, taken just before sunset.

My first tiny really curly baby. She would cry whenever I moved her feet away from her head so most of her shots are of her in curl like this. Mom said she even sleeps like this! Too cute!

After months of chemotherapy and being bald, my hair started growing back in March. I even have natural curls

Photo taken by our son Peter,

This has been my go-to hairstyle for a number of years now, but even the best wigs don't last forever. I think I got about four years out of the previous version, but it had become pretty frizzy and lost much of it's curl appeal.

I've had fun doing the blondie thing for a while, but I had to bite the bullet and invest in a replacement in my natural color. Unfortunately I've not been able to visit my favorite stylist in KC, so I'm on my own as far as trimming the bangs and the initial styling.

A strong southerly wind has created large waves off Sydney, especially at exposed south-facing headlands. This was on the headland between Freshwater and Curl Curl beaches. HDR processing to bring out detail in the spray.

Woolly Blue Curls (Trichostema lanatum). Pinnacles National Park. San Benito Co., Calif.

I headed over to South Curl Curl this morning, with the low tide it was possible to head around the rocks away from the street lights and lights above the pool. The overcast skies in Sydney at the moment are great for some moody sunrise photos.

Taken on a overcast morning at North Curl Curl, Northern Beaches. F8, iso 100, 1.6 seconds

I grabbed a birdarang out of my bag and threw it at her. It lodged into her hand causing her to drop the gun she was holding.

You bitch!

I threw another one that landed in her leg. She winced in pain. She fell to her knees and pulled the birdarang out of her hand.

You dirty, rotten, bitch!

She tried to throw it back at me but she missed by a mile. She crawled towards me leaving a trail of blood on the wooden floor.

Watch your back! Next time there is going to be a bullet in your head!

I looked back at her. I could tell she was in a lot of pain.

I'm sorry. I'm so sorry.

I opened the door and walked got a bus to drop me off at my apartment. I sat on my couch silently. I walked into the bathroom and looked at myself in the mirror. I felt terrible about what I did with my so called friend. I curled myself into a ball on my bed. Is this what it comes to? Hurting my friends? Having scars all over my body? Losing the ones I love?

Every time I see the word "hospital" embedded into a roadmap of an upcoming trip, my stomach curls itself into fetal position. I’m not the most cooperative exploring partner on such occasions, dragging my feet like a child made to go early to bed. Throwing grim looks towards a grim structure, frowning and distorting my face into that of disgust. Hopeful of a non-existent entry. Everything that thrills me when going into abandonments loses its appeal and turns sour on the slightest mention of a...hospital.

Perhaps part of the reason lies within the fear that the foul stench of death will somehow rub off and stick to me. Perhaps it’s because they seem more alive than any other abandonments, not so different from living hospitals - still coughing, convulsing, decomposing.

I will walk through them in a haze of a fight or flight instinct. Where flight is the preferred choice. One shot and I’m out.

Winter leave curled from wilting and the cold.

A shot from my first early morning shoot with the Focus group this morning.

Not much cloud, but the swell was up and the wave action was great.

Thanks evryone for this morning - in particular Sean for leading the shoot, and Khosrow for leading me astray!
