A macro image of a new frond being produced by our sago palm. I used 68 mm of extension tubes with my 100mm macro for approximately a 1.6x magnification. Its been over a year since the last frond was produced. These are very slow growing plants. Strobist info: One YN 568EXii to the left of the camera, modified with a small softbox and fired at about 1/1 power. The YN was attached to the camera with an OCF cord, and acted as a optical master to trigger a Canon 430 EXii to camera right modified with a stofen diffuser, fired at 1/64 power. A small reflector was positioned above the subject to add a little fill light. You can see a setup shot here: www.flickr.com/gp/rcjeske/393j9x
Always risky trying to snap a speeding hydrofoil with a long lens, it didn't always end well. The planets didn't quite align for this one but here she is anyway, because I can never take it again.

A wave breaking at North Curl Curl, on Sydney's Northern Beaches. Strong westerly winds blowing off the land are creating beautiful wave shapes.
North Curl Curl tidal pool this morning, before a smog from back-burning in the National Parks to the West enveloped the entire Northern Beaches.

Thursday 9th of November did not disappoint. Waves of 25 feet plus was entering the cove and the atmosphere was quite simply awesome.
Picking out and tracking waves with my 100-400 was challenging to say the least and it was not safe on the beach either with those pesky breaking waves on the shoreline. Shooting conditions were brutal...
Captured handheld at 400mm I was pleased with some of the shots I came away with. Although going through close to 2k shots not so much fun...
Thanks very much for viewing. Wishing you, your families and friends a very happy Christmas and a happy and healthy New Year :)
There are volunteer sago palms around the base of the original. I know I have to decide what to do about the excess, but at present I am enjoying watching the fronds uncurl.
This is a type of fern, taken near Lake Rotoiti during end of year vacation. It was raining at the time.

She was telling me how the other kids didn't believe how long it took for her hair to get fixed up. How ever long it took, it was worth it.
