I wanted to visit Wat Mongkhon Nimit (sometimes called Phutta Mongkhon Nimit) . The temple is just on the north edge of the "old town"
The cobblestone streets of Brussels hold the quiet charm of a city that breathes history. Every corner reveals a piece of the past, with buildings that have witnessed centuries of change but remain as pillars of tradition and culture. Walking through these streets is like stepping into a time where architecture speaks, and the ground tells stories of old markets, artists, and gatherings that shaped Belgian identity.
Brussels, known for its blend of French and Flemish influences, preserves this essence in its alleys and hidden squares. The glow of cobblestones after a rainy night or the soft sound of footsteps echoing at dusk creates a unique atmosphere – melancholic yet warm.
These streets are not just pathways; they are living memories intertwined with the present. In Brussels, even the smallest alleyway seems to whisper that the past is never as far away as it seems.

Khurtisi Castle is located near the Jvari Pass in the Kazbegi region of northern Georgia. This historic fortress once played a crucial strategic role in guarding the mountain passage. Although the castle is now in ruins, its remains still bear witness to the rich history and importance of the Caucasus as a trade route. The remains show a typical medieval Georgian architectural style, with sturdy stone walls and a strategic location on a hill, which offers a magnificent view of the surrounding valley. Khurtisi Castle is a place where history and nature harmoniously merge, with a serene and timeless atmosphere against the backdrop of the imposing Mount Shani. Mt. Shani, a majestic peak of approximately 4,451 meters high, is located in the vicinity of the Jvari Pass and is considered one of the prominent mountains in the region. The mountain not only offers a challenge to experienced mountaineers, but also acts as a visual icon in the landscape. The snow-capped peak of Mount Shani towers over the valleys, with sheer rock faces and glistening ice fields, creating an impressive backdrop for the historic Khurtisi Castle.
The Jvari Pass, located at 2,379 meters, is part of the Georgian Military Highway, a historic route that connects Tbilisi to Vladikavkaz in Russia. The pass is known for its spectacular views, with winding roads that wind through deep gorges and past picturesque villages. Together, Khurtisi Castle and Mount Shani create a unique blend of history, culture and natural beauty, making the Jvari Pass an unforgettable destination.

The Punakha Dzong in Bhutan is an impressive architectural masterpiece with a rich history. Built in 1637, it was once the capital and government seat and hosted the coronation ceremonies of Bhutan's kings. The striking gold dome was added in 1676, and other enhancements, such as the chenmo thondrol, a grand thangka displayed during the annual tsechu festival, were incorporated between 1744 and 1763. Despite facing fires, earthquakes, and a glacial lake burst in 1994, the dzong has been extensively restored. I took this photo right after crossing the Bazam bridge, which was rebuilt in 2008 after the original 17th-century bridge was washed away in the 1958 floods. As I walked towards the dzong, I was captivated by the sight of monks strolling alongside it, prompting me to capture a few shots - Punakha Dzong, Punakha, Bhutan.
The Punakha Dzong is a stunning architectural masterpiece in Bhutan, and staying at the Six Senses in Punakha means passing by it every time you arrive or leave the hotel. Although impressive every time you pass, the dzong's full beauty is best captured early in the morning. This postcard features a photograph taken at 5:30 am. Constructed in 1637, the dzong served as the capital and seat of government until the mid-1950s, and all of Bhutan's kings have been crowned here – Punakha Dzong, Punakha, Buthan

The terraced agriculture of Jebel Akhdar (Green Mountain) in Oman is a centuries-old practice where local communities grow crops on mountain slopes using the traditional falaj irrigation system, which channels water from springs to the fields. The main crops include pomegranates, apricots, walnuts, and roses. The roses, in particular, are used to produce Omani rose water, a renowned local product. During our stay at the Anantara Al Jabal Al Akhdar Resort, I captured some photos of the valley at sunset and explored the villages of Alar, Alain, and Al Shuraijah. Alar is famous for its rose plantations, especially during the blooming season in spring. Alain showcases fruit orchards and walnut trees, reflecting the area's agricultural heritage. Al Shuraijah, the largest of the three, combines fruit trees, rose gardens, and terraces with remarkable views. Nagy Vásárcsarnok, also known as the Great Market Hall or Central Market Hall, stands proudly as a historic marketplace nestled at the heart of Budapest, just a short 5-minute stroll from the banks of the Danube River. Its architectural charm is a captivating fusion of Neo-Gothic and Neo-Renaissance styles, reminiscent of the grandeur showcased by the Hungarian Parliament. Upon stepping inside, we were greeted by three bustling levels, each teeming with diverse stalls and vendors. The ground floor presents a treasure trove of fresh produce, meats, dairy products, and iconic Hungarian delicacies like paprika and Tokaji wine. Ascending to the upper level, we encountered an abundance of clothing, handicrafts, and affordable souvenirs, though it did give the overall experience a somewhat touristy feel. Nevertheless, exploring the Great Market Hall provided us with an opportunity to immerse ourselves in the local culture and heritage. I captured the photograph on display from the top floor by securely positioning my camera on the railing to prevent any unwanted camera shake. This was particularly important because I took five pictures, some of them with relatively longer shutter speeds, and later merged them using the HDR function in LR - Nagy Vásárcsarnok, Budapest, Hungary

The wooden balconies of Betlemi Street and the surrounding neighborhood in Tbilisi are one of the most characteristic and charming elements of traditional Georgian architecture. Often richly decorated with wood carvings, these balconies hang from the facades of colorful, historic houses built into the hills of the Old Town. They not only provide residents with a place to relax and enjoy the view, but also contribute to the unique atmosphere of the neighborhood. The wooden balconies reflect a style that dates back to the 19th century. The CENN Hillhouse with its green balcony is a beautiful example of how modern features and historic architecture can harmoniously blend. CENN is a non-profit organization that promotes sustainable development and environmental protection in the Caucasus region. This office features a traditional wooden balcony that seamlessly blends in with the style of Betlemi Street. The balcony, typical of the Old Town, features intricate wood carvings and offers fantastic views of Tbilisi and the surrounding hills.
I captured this enchanting street scene during my afternoon walk through the local neighborhood. White Hall Tavern stands proudly at the intersection of history and legend in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia. This 19th-century building, with its weathered facade and sky-blue shutters, once played a central role in the social fabric of the town. Known for its rowdy patrons, White Hall Tavern served as a gathering place for both locals and travelers, offering drinks and lively conversation against the backdrop of Harpers Ferry’s tumultuous past.
Located at the corner of High Street, the tavern’s sturdy stone foundation and stuccoed exterior reflect its resilience. The structure’s simple yet distinctive design — sloping rooflines, brick chimneys, and shuttered windows — captures the authentic architectural character of the town. Today, White Hall Tavern is preserved by the National Park Service as a historical exhibit that transports visitors back to the days when the C&O Canal bustled with activity and the B&O Railroad carried the hum of progress.
Its location near the confluence of the Potomac and Shenandoah Rivers, and the shadow of the Blue Ridge Mountains, situates the tavern at the crossroads of Civil War history, trade routes, and the cultural exchange that defined Harpers Ferry. As visitors wander through its interior rooms, they’re greeted by interpretive displays and stories that evoke the lively, sometimes chaotic spirit of the tavern’s heyday.
A testament to Harpers Ferry’s layered history, White Hall Tavern connects modern explorers with the stories of a town that helped shape the American narrative. Whether you’re drawn by its architecture, its tales of raucous patrons, or its role in the larger Harpers Ferry story, this historic site remains a must-see destination for anyone seeking to experience the past where it truly comes alive.

Rikugien Gardens, located in Tokyo’s Bunkyō ward, is a breathtaking example of a traditional Japanese strolling garden, celebrated for its seasonal beauty and historical significance. Designed in the Edo period by feudal lord Yanagisawa Yoshiyasu, a close confidant of the fifth shogun Tokugawa Tsunayoshi, the garden was completed in 1702. Its name, “Rikugien,” translates to "Six Poems Garden," inspired by an ancient Japanese poetic classification system, and the garden features landscapes that bring classical poetry to life.
The design follows the kaiyu-shiki, or strolling garden style, with a central pond, winding pathways, meticulously pruned pine trees, and carefully placed rocks. Each element is crafted to embody the concept of “borrowed scenery,” integrating natural vistas with man-made beauty. The large central pond mirrors the lush greenery surrounding it, creating serene reflections that change with the seasons—from cherry blossoms in spring to fiery maples in autumn.
Rikugien offers numerous scenic viewpoints, including the iconic Togetsukyo Bridge, a stone formation that represents a mountain crossing. Step into a mesmerizing world of words and symbolism with this immersive installation at the Hirshhorn Museum in Washington, D.C. Tucked within the historic Higashi Chaya District of Kanazawa, the Ochaya Art Museum offers a glimpse into Japan’s refined teahouse culture. This beautifully preserved Edo-period structure exemplifies traditional chaya (teahouse) architecture, with its elegant wooden façade, delicate latticed windows, and muted earthy tones that have aged gracefully over centuries.
