Katara Pigeon Towers, Doha, Qatar.
Pigeon towers can be found in various shapes and sizes all over the Middle East. Their use dates back to the Middle Ages, if not earlier. Far from being a pointless hobby, the towers provided farmers with much-needed fertilizer. They were built from logs and mud.
MI QUITO
Miro el sol ocultarse tras los montes
las sombras difuminan tu figura
van mezclándose así en la lejura
hasta dejar de ser tan diferentes.
Las cuantiosas estrellas titilantes,
engalanan las noches de soltura
y la brisa refresca con ternura
el sueño de tus miles de habitantes.
Eres la Luz de América, que alumbra
la belleza y color omnipotente;
de este centro del mundo que vislumbra.
¡Mi ciudad, Patrimonio diferente,
ciudad noble y valiente que deslumbra;
es mi Quito, la flor del continente!

AMSTERDAM - A former shipyard located on the banks of the River IJ in Amsterdam Noord, the NDSM Wharf has blossomed into an enormous cultural hotspot in recent years with a vibrant artist community and an ever-expanding variety of bars and restaurants. With grounds exceeding the size of ten football pitches, the area hosts multi-disciplinary festivals, performances, exhibitions, dance parties and a wide range of other events in unique, post-industrial surroundings.
Of all the buildings I've been in Chicago, this one is my favorite!

In 1862, silver and gold were discovered in the southern Baja California Sur mountains, leading miners from Mexico and the United States to rush to settle in El Triunfo in a gold rush.[4] Many of the miners had participated in the 1849 California gold rush.[4] In 1878, the mine was taken over by the British El Progreso Mining Company and became more successful. Once the largest city in Baja California Sur, it was home to more than 10,000 miners.[2] In its heyday the town was a cultural center, where Francisca Mendoza taught and performed.[5] El Triunfo was the first town in the region to install electricity and telephones.[6] Pianos and other instruments were brought to El Triunfo from around the world and a piano museum still exists.[7] When mines shut down in 1926, most of the townspeople left to look for work elsewhere.[2] The 2010 census reported a population of 327 inhabitants.[1] El Triunfo is one of the best preserved 19th and 20th century mining communities in North America and remains an important site for archaeological research.[8 - Wikipedia
An American sailor (r) visiting Spain tries on a Spanish sailor's hat on the streets of Rota, Spain in the early 1980s. American sailors then, like today, are told NOT to wear their uniforms out on liberty so as not to draw attention to themselves. (Re-released without watermarks for free downloading).

An interesting mix of cultural styles in Dublin.

This image celebrates International Jaguar Day.
International Jaguar Day was created to raise awareness about the increasing threats facing the jaguar and the critical conservation efforts ensuring its survival from Mexico to Argentina.
Observed annually on November 29, International Jaguar Day celebrates the Americas’ largest wild cat as an umbrella species for biodiversity conservation and an icon for sustainable development and the centuries-old cultural heritage of Central and South America.
The jaguar (Panthera onca) is a large felid species and the only extant member of the genus Panthera native to the Americas. The jaguar's present range extends from Southwestern United States and Mexico in North America, across much of Central America, and south to Paraguay and northern Argentina in South America.
It is listed as Near Threatened on the IUCN Red List; and its numbers are declining. Threats include loss and fragmentation of habitat.
Overall, the jaguar is the largest native cat species of the New World and the third largest in the world. This spotted cat closely resembles the leopard, but is usually larger and sturdier. It ranges across a variety of forested and open terrains, but its preferred habitat is tropical and subtropical moist broadleaf forest, swamps and wooded regions.
The jaguar enjoys swimming and is largely a solitary, opportunistic, stalk-and-ambush predator at the top of the food chain. As a keystone species it plays an important role in stabilizing ecosystems and regulating prey populations.
Where else would one finds American sports (baseball and football) right next to pandas and the Temple of Heaven...? :)
Have a wonderful day, everyone...
