Nope, although their name "teddy bear cholla" might sound inviting, best not to snuggle with these sharp Sonoran succulents, On a related note, did have a "run in" with one of these fellows one time. Needless to say, I'm a little more cautious now. : flic.kr/p/2nWjv4p .
Look at those eyes!
There were young fur seals of varying ages at all the sites where we found them. This one was in the middle of the age range. Some looked a week or two old and others a few weeks older that the one posted here.
The fur and elephant seal populations in this region have been hit hard by avian influenza. It has jumped from birds to these mammals. And, as you likely have heard, cows in North America have been infected in multiple regions, as have some people.
Evidence of the disease was particularly noticeable in the younger seals, but no age was being spared. We saw a fair number of dead animals, some even floating out at sea. Birds that will eat carrion, like the giant petrel, skuas, and gulls, would feed on the carcasses.
I sure hope the affected mammals, and the various bird species, in the sub-polar region develop immunity to the active strain(s) soon.
That Make You Say Awww !

LUIS: „So so, Ki-Mo-Nos heißt das also.

After Luis, Bärbel and Sweety had welcomed the New Year together with the Antarctic cows and the penguins, they decided to move on quickly as it was very cold. For this, Sweety rang the magic bell:
BIM-BIM-BIM 🔔🔔🔔
🌀🌀🌀🌀🌀🌀🌀🌀
BÄRBEL: “Have you seen the beautiful, snow-covered mountain?”
LUIS: “Wait a minute, it says Japan on the sign and Mount Fuji, that must be its name.”
SWEETY: “Wow, how great do you look, Bärbel ?”
BÄRBEL: “Oh yes, I really like that too ! The Japanese cows don't wear togas here either, they wear kimonos like this.”
LUIS: “So that's what they call ki-mo-nos. Look, I'll put another chopstick like this in your hair !”
SWEETY: “Be careful Luis, the bell is hanging on it !”
(To be continued ...)
A big thank you to Karen, who created the background picture with the help of AI ! 💞
Helianthus, Annual Sunflower, Common Sunflower 'Teddy Bear'
The puffy head of this pretty flower gives it the name Teddy Bear Sunflower.
The plant is an annual, sown from seed each year in the spring. Helianthus annuus is the botanical name.
This unusual member of the sunflower family is unlike regular types. It has cuddly-looking, 4-5 inch fully-doubled yellow flowers that are held up on sturdy dwarf plants 2 1/2-3 feet tall.

Kudzu, the smallest of seven goats at Belmont Audubon Habitat, is also the sweetest. She's watching me and waiting for pats and/or brushing. I did give her a good brushing, with the wide-bristled human hairbrush. Goats find it very stimulating.
Teddy is a Milky Eagle Owl, also known as Verreaux's Eagle Owl. Apparently he lives up to his name as the falconer calls him her cuddly teddy bear. He is also a star of the falconry's flight shows. Owls are known for often simply refusing to fly, it's in their nature as they are sit-and-wait predators. Teddy is an exception because he loves to fly in the shows.

Sorry to those who don't like creepy crawlies... though you won't be reading this as your eyes will be closed by now...!
The Weta
The weta is an amazing insect, found not just in New Zealand but also in South Africa, Australia, and South America.
Weta is strictly a New Zealand name that derives from the Maori name of wetapunga that was given to the giant weta. Wetapunga translates roughly to "God of ugly things".
They are nocturnal and flightless. Different species have different diets. Most weta eat other invertebrates but one group of weta endemic to New Zealand (the tree and giant weta) have evolved to eat mostly leaves, flowers and fruit.
Weta may have survived virtually unchanged since the Mesozoic era, although there is no fossil evidence of this. In this respect, they can be compared with the tuatara.

Happy Caturday 1.5.2021 "Best"
Sheila was an incredibly cuddly cat. No morning in bed without extensive petting of her tummy.
As you can see, I don't only own the yellow duvet covers :-)))

Flickr Friday: Daily Bread
In French, "daily bread" has a slightly different meaning from English. For us, it means something that a person does everyday or goes through everyday. I have been stuck in bed for a week now after ankle surgery, and my little Pixie, although worried (and scared by all the nurses and strangers invading his territory), is being very patient and quiet. So, these days, my daily bread is a lot of napping together and cuddling with the cutest little cat.
We had a great weekend with Mandy. We got some news last week that her heart wasn't handling the steroid that we were giving her for her gut issue so we had to stop giving it to her. So we spent a lot of time with her and focused on her because we don't know how long we have with her. Everything that we could give her to help her heart is in pill form and we don't want to traumatize all of us by trying to shove pills down her throat. A tough decision is likely in our future because we don't want her to suffer and lose her "Mandy-ness". Hope you have a great day cherishing those that you love.
You better shut up! Orcs don't wanna sleep alone, too!

This is one of the rare outdoor pictures that needed as much pampering as my indoor pictures. Finding a nice, mossy spot was one thing, finding one with enough light on dull, grey days to take a picture, the tough part. This is the third trial, even with a hint of sunlight.
Toy Project Day 2602
Created in DDG Text 2 Dream using its "Artistic" Ai model.
Filters: Photoshop Beta 2023 and Topaz Gigapixel Ai.
SO much hand painting. I created two bunny ears, eliminated an ear that did not belong to a bunny, corrected her mouth, an eye and the shadow around her nose and created the border in PS.
Thanks for your visit, faves, and kind comments.
