The Châteu Enveloped in a White, Frozen Beauty!!
That late morning was really frozen in Belgium !! -6C!! The snow had become crystallized, the waters deeply frozen ! And my son Nicholas and I, decided to visit the Château (…De La Hulpe), and immortalize with our cameras its frozen , charming Beauty!
In the serene woodlands of Hacienda Montecristo, near the culturally rich Santa Rosa de Copán, I captured a tender moment between an Azure-crowned Hummingbird, Saucerottia cyanocephala, and her fledgling. This photograph embodies the essence of a mother's care, set against a backdrop where the verdure of Honduras unfolds in harmony with the simplicity of these birds' existence. The adult's vibrant azure crown, a stark contrast to the juvenile's developing plumes, speaks volumes of the life stages that I, as a photographer, am privileged to witness.
Utilizing a shallow depth of field, I sought to crystallize the duo's interaction while allowing the lush environment to softly blur into bokeh, highlighting the birds as the focal point. The diffused lighting of the canopy gently illuminated the iridescence of the mother's feathers, while the careful composition preserved the integrity of their natural behavior. This image is not just a visual record; it is a story of survival and continuity in the avian world, a narrative I strive to share through my lens. ©2022 Adam Rainoff
f/13, 1/6, ISO-100, 24mm, monochrome. These boulders were created 1.5 billion years ago during the Precambrian era by crystallized magma. This area is known as the Ozark Plateau which has over millions of years warped upwards. Many structures in St. Louis were built from stone quarried near here (fortunately these rocks were not affected with the exception of names carved into the rocks). I was lucky to have an overcast sky which allowed me to bring out the natural texture in the rocks without over-exposing the highlights. I used a tripod which allowed me to stay at ISO 100 while using f/13 at 1/6 of a second. The brightest part of the photo was the sky since I exposed for the shadows on the rocks. I used masks to bring down the brightness in the clouds and sharpened a little for the rock textures.
🌌 Cosmic Frontiers: The Salar de Uyuni Beneath the Milky Way 🌌
Nature’s perfect geometry is unveiled in this stunning composition of the Salar de Uyuni. The iconic hexagonal formations of crystallized salt create a natural mathematical pattern stretching across the dry desert, bearing witness to millennia of geological cycles that have shaped this unique landscape.
Above, the majestic Milky Way spills across the sky in full splendor, displaying the pink and reddish hues of the nebulae in the Cygnus region. The galactic structure, with its clouds of gas and cosmic dust, contrasts dramatically with the organized texture of the salt flats below.
Between these two worlds, a solitary mountain rises on the horizon—like a gateway connecting the earthly to the celestial. The composition evokes a perfect harmony between the elements, as the hexagonal patterns on the ground seem to mirror the cosmic order above.
This is the magic of the Salar de Uyuni in its dry season: a perfect stage for stargazing, where the absence of light pollution allows the cosmos to unveil its deepest secrets to the patient eye of the night sky photographer.

Noctilucent Clouds , Germany, Mörlenbach 21.06.2019. Noctilucent Clouds clouds are accumulations of ice crystals over the mesopause. There, the absolute temperature minimum of the earth's atmosphere is reached. They appear at a height of 81 to 85 km. Noctilucent clouds can be seen on clear nights around the summer solstice, especially in a northerly direction. The crystallization nuclei for the ice crystals may be particles that form when burning meteors.

What was once written on this now-crystallized typewriter? Did it spit out invoices and business letters, or did someone write a great but forgotten novel? Did it ever compose love letters or memoirs, or was it more about term papers? Its history is sealed.
The frosty white appearance can be deceiving in this vast valley basin. It may seem like ice, but it's actually made mostly of Sodium Cloride - or table salt. The salt flats of Death Valley spread out over nearly 200 square miles. The little rain that does occur each year washes minerals down from the nearby mountains and eventually makes it's way into the valley floor. Wild and chaotic formations appear when the muddy surface, mixed with the salt, goes through an extreme evaporation process.

Per estrarlo si pompa acqua nel sottosuolo con degli evaporatori, che lo sciolgono e lo fanno ricristallizzare immediatamente in superficie. Così si evita qualsiasi tipo di contaminazione e il prodotto è puro anche al 99,9%. La Salina Locatelli si sviluppa su un area di 65.000 mq divisi in 10 stabili. Oggi produce circa 150.000 tonnellate l’anno di sale cristallizato due volte destinato alla produzione di pastiglie e all’industria agro-alimentare. Con una purezza minima del 99.99%, è il sale più puro d’Italia.
The salt mines of Volterra have been cultivated since the time of the Etruscans, and have always been considered an important resource for the territory. Millions of years ago there was a salt lake, which left an underground salt mine. To extract it, water is pumped underground with evaporators, which dissolve it and make it immediately recrystallize on the surface. This avoids any type of contamination and the product is even 99.9% pure. Salina Locatelli is spread over an area of 65,000 m2 divided into 10 buildings. Today it produces around 150,000 tonnes per year of twice crystallized salt intended for the production of tablets and the agri-food industry. With a minimum purity of 99.99%, it is the purest salt in Italy.

It's harvest time at the salt pans of Tavira here. The rhythm of their exploitation consists of a few distinct phases. During the first one, the seawater is let into the shallow basins. After that the sun does its work – while the water gradually evaporates, it often turns red due to the invasion of the Halobacterium salinarum a salt-loving bacteria.
Before the water is entirely evaporated a part of the salt crystallizes and is harvested as 'flor de sal'. When the evaporation is almost complete the fine salt crystals are harvested. After that a basin rests largely empty, waiting for a new cycle. The salt pans are operated by Rui Simeão Tavira Sal sea salt works .
The monastery in the BG dates back to 1509. For over three centuries it hosted nuns before being converted, after a long period of abandonment, into a steam factory for the production of flour, which remained functional until the sixties of the previous century. After that it stood empty for some 40 years and gradually became dilapidated and was converted yet again in 2011, now into a private luxury condominium/hotel.

These tiny and sharp needle structures were formed by crystallization processes. Nature never stops to amaze me!

They wait for him, beckon him come and face your reckoning
Beauty is easy to find, just step outside! Wear socks over your shoes so that you can walk across the skating rink that used to be a patio. The grass has crystallized, and crunches loudly in the stillness. The old maple tree is wearing a tiny little world, with icy rivulets and green moss throughout the ridges and valleys. The inhabitants are sleeping now, buried beneath the frozen layers…dreaming of a time of warmth and renewal. The dangerous journey from home to the frosty winter wonderland will be worth it, though! Just don’t forget your socks….
Number 2 in an ongoing series themed on the idea of "strange attractors" central states that have a pull on the past and present toward which events move. Attractors have a kind of "gravity" and power that pull developing things toward them.
As an extra layer I'm using the names of key figures, scientific, spiritual and philosophical who, by the power of their revolutionary and profound ideas, caused new movements and developments to crystallize for the first time. Their ideas are also "strange attractors".
