An essential part of attending the Vivid Sydney 2023 festival is to also visit one of the cafes in 'The Rocks'.

This is a flat white coffee and 'Espresso Coffee Crunch' cake.

At 'The Rocks Cafe'.

99 George Street, 'The Rocks'.

Sydney

See: www.therockscafe.com.au/#about

This is an historic address which dates back to the late 1700s. Here is the history:

The site at '99 George Street' has been in continuous usage since the late 1700s. It was part of the first Sydney hospital grounds, standing just south to the site, with the Assistant Surgeon’s residence occupied by Francis Greenway, the convict architect who had been transported for forging a building contract in 1814.

In 1861, for an unknown reason, the buildings at 95-99 George Street were vacated and the buildings demolished. The land remained vacant until circa 1867 when the present building was constructed.

They were occupied in 1868, with a butcher in No. 95 and a grocer in No. 99, and these buildings continued to be used for those businesses for the next 20 years. '99 George Street' was continually used as a grocers and run by a number of tenants until the 1970s. In the late 1970s and early 1980s the Sydney Cove Redevelopment Authority undertook restoration and reconstruction works on the terrace of shops.

Since the late 1980’s, '99 George Street' has been occupied by 'The Rocks Café', where it now serves flat white coffee and Espresso Coffee Cake, lol.

Green Heron capturing a Bullfrog Tadpole for lunch.

Fairly common migrant.

Green-backed Heron snatching a metamorphosing tadpole (note the tadpole's tail) as it hunts the murky waters of Hubbard Pond. Within about 30 seconds, the Gb-H had seized and swallowed the tadpole whole. The action caught me by surprise. As luck would have it, I was ready and got the photograph.

The Gb-H is a fairly common migrant to the area. It arrives in late May and exits in September. Frogs are common and abundant in this pond, as well.

Sea otter enjoys a crunchy mussel snack. Elkhorn Slough, CA.

The last few posts of Ollie have shown his chilled out cool side.

However he is also a ferocious killing machine.

A big swell generated by an intense Low Pressure cell in the Southern Ocean is on its way to Australia's SE coastline. The surf was already building in Newcastle this morning but was quite rideable. Tomorrow is forecast to be very different.

Happy Friday to you and a good weekend ahead!

Buckley Festival. Wales may 2024

Love the sound of the leaves as they crunch underfoot! Nothing like the sound of Autumn to complete the effect! Have a great Halloween everyone...off to sell flowers in Eastern Poland for the week...I knew Halloween would look different this year, but wow..

A carpet of autumn leaves underfoot

When you can hear the salmon bones crunching as the bear eats them, it can be a little disconcerting, especially in the quiet of night when it's all you hear.

This sow was thoroughly enjoying her salmon here and had a nice firm grip on its head. She had cubs that were off playing for a while and left her alone, much to her appreciation I'm sure. Mom time.

When Snow Crunches and the Fog Lets Go

Winter mornings like this remind me that cold does not mean lifeless.

As the fog retreats and light finds its way across the river, everything feels awake again – even if walkers are few.

Just a walk, four moments, and that familiar sound of snow under boots.

Kad snijeg škripi, a magla popušta
