Croft house, Isle of Eriskay, Hebrides, Scotland. Disused croft houses are often called abandoned. That's not quite true. Yes, they have outlived their use, but the families still remain on the land. You can see the new house through the empty windows in fact. The islanders tend not to throw anything away. They might need to salve something, but they also have a long history of everything being taken from them.
Eriskay is a stunning little island. A knobbly rock, surrounded by the turquoise waters of the sound of Barra. It is often hard to believe that you are on the edge of the Atlantic in Northwest Scotland. Wildflowers carpet the island with a sweet fragrance to match in the summer. I love how the tall buttercups decorate and dance around this house...
Another from Monday's trip out west.
After leaving the Torridon area Steve (Stoates-Findhorn) and I headed for the Applecross Peninsula and stopped for a study of this old croft house.
These old places always make me wish I could have a short trip back in time to see how life was when it was occupied.
A croft is a small agricultural unit. The person who lives on the croft is called a crofter. A croft is the land, not the house the crofter lives in. Crofts are usually rented. They are often part of large estates where the landowner is the crofter's landlord.

A remote farmhouse on the Sleat Peninsular, Isle of Skye. Modern crofting with a little jeep parked at the front door. The Cuillin Mountains make a fantastic background.
……Another view of Croft Castle (N/Trust), an interesting place between Ludlow & Leominster, we had been before but enjoyed our return visit as much. Alan:-)…..

Looking through the window of an abandoned croft on Lewis, Outer Hebrides. You could look right through the house to the hills beyond.
For a blog of my trip to the Outer Hebrides:

These crofts are sited by the Flora Macdonald Grave at Kilmuir on the North West tip of Skye. They have a view over the sea to Benbecula, from where, Flora Macdonald is said to have taken "Bonnie Prince Charlie", "Over the Sea to Skye" following his escape from the Battle of Culloden and his pursuit by the Duke of Cumberland.
It is now a Heritage Centre, providing a historical insight into life as a crofter in these parts.

Croft Castle sits deep in the heart of Herefordshire countryside surrounded by 1500 acres of historic woodland, farm and parkland. This intimate house became the Croft family home before the Domesday Book. It is a National Trust property which is open to the public.
Lara avoided all traps and solved all puzzles to retrieve the lost relic of Maya from the forgotten temple! Let's hope that statue is not gonna move, it can be cursed...
You asked what happened after that picture - THIS happened! xD Another tribute to Lara Croft, based on her appearance in 2018 film "Tomb Raider", where she was played by Alicia Vikander. That's why she holds a bow instead of famous guns. ;)
I like this torso so much, so I thought it would be appropriate to make a portrait, because the last time only her back was visible. :)
P.S. I miss the Chrome parts SO MUCH!
Back to May for this one .....a croft at Oldshoremore.
Hard to beat this part of Scotland for scenic landscapes!)

Balemartine croft Tiree
Just home from a wonderful trip to the lovely west coast island of Tiree where Tory and I had a much needed escape from the new reality. I even managed a few trips out with my camera and it's been a while since I have felt relaxed enough to really be able to enjoy it. Hopefully I have come back with a few half decent images. This one I could not resist shooting even though its definitely not my usual type of image. I spotted this while we were visiting the Skerryvore museum and dry dock site where they constructed the lighthouse in the 1830s. I just had to wait for a stormy day and as we were blessed with amazing weather this was quite a while, then 50mph winds and heavy rain arrived so with saintly wife Victoria and heavy duty umbrella I managed a couple of shots before Tory was going to end up in the Atlantic trying to hold on the the umbrella. I hope you like the image.
