Established in 1869 as the Mapleton Mills, which produced flour from a small mill located on the nearby Big Blue River. It later became the Crete Mills and one of Crete's largest employers, producing flour and other milled grain products. It has changed hands a couple of times and is now owned by Bunge Milling.
