Falasarna (Falasarna) is one of the most popular places in Crete, combining magnificent beaches and historical sights. Falasarna is located on the west coast of the island, 50 km west of Chania, 43 km north of Elafonisi and 14 km west of Kissamos.

Story
According to archaeological finds found in this area, the ancient city of Falasarna was located here in the Hellenistic era. Presumably, the city of Falasarna was founded in the 6th - 8th century BC and had a strong influence, especially in the western part of Crete. The city minted its coins, on one side of which was depicted a woman with earrings in her ears, on the other side there was a trident and the inscription "FA". He fought with no less important and strong in those days, the city of Polyrrinia and, most importantly, had its own port, thanks to which its inhabitants successfully engaged in navigation and trade.
The port of Falasarna was well protected by high walls, and the passage of ships to the sea was carried out through a special channel. But, unfortunately, in the 1st century BC. powerful fortifications could not resist the onslaught of the Romans, and the port was destroyed. Well, the fall of the great Falasarna completed the strongest earthquake that occurred in Crete in 365 BC, when, as a result of a tectonic shift of platforms, the western part of the island rose several meters and the place, once a port, turned into a plain.

Nowadays, the ancient city of Falasarna that once existed here is reminded of ancient burial sites carved into the rock, parts of the fortress walls and towers of the port found, fragments of pottery workshops, and Tron, a stone statue in the form of a seat.
